If you want to easily figure out what skin type you have just follow these simple steps:

  • 1. Wash and dry your face.
  • 2. Leave it completely natural, don’t apply any products after washing.
  • 3. Wait one hour.
  • 4. Press a clean tissue against your forehead, nose, chin and cheeks.

If the tissue doesn’t look any different, congratulations, your skin type is normal.
You have dry skin if you notice any flakes of skin on the tissue.
If the tissue looks transparent or oily in spots that means oily skin.
You have combination skin if the oil only comes from the forehead, nose, and chin  (also known as the T-zone).

Tip Tuesday #51: Moisturize Even if you have oily skin!

Here’s another tip for Tip Tuesday:

Even if you have oily skin still use a moisturizer!

Moisturizers are used to improve the skin’s hydration, so think of it as the water content of the skin, not about the oils it produces.  Even oily skin can get dried out, which in turn will only trigger your body to produce more oil.  It is a vicious cycle!

The best moisturizer for oily skin is one that is oil-free, lightweight and non-comedogenic.

One of my favorites has always been Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel

Focus on one feature at a time. When wearing a loud shade of lipstick keep the eye makeup more subtle or if you want to go crazy with your eye makeup try a nude or subtle toned lipstick shade.

Invest in good quality brushes.

Good brushes will last for years and provide better makeup application and blending. The fluffy brushes are for blending while generally the flat brushes are for applying products like foundation, cream products, and packing on eyeshadow.

One of my most used and favorite brushes is my Crown Brush C412 Deluxe Pointed Crease Brush and the INSPR Beauty Eye Fluff Brush which is perfect for blending.

While some good quality brushes are more expensive, some of my favorite brushes are inexpensive $1 brushes from E.L.F. like this defining eye brush.

I feel as if  E.L.F. brushes don’t get enough praise and attention.  They have some great quality brushes available. I prefer the $3-$6 USD black handled brushes to the less expensive (yet still effective) white handled brushes, yet all the price points have great options avaliable.

They have also recently come out with a newer more expensive silver handled line.  This 7 piece silver handle set is only $10, and has everything you might need to complete a great face look.

This week’s tip is how to avoid that dreaded gap between your eyeliner and eyelashes…

While there is no “wrong way” to do your makeup, and if you like the way that something looks go for it and do what makes you feel pretty!…All that being said…

I remember when I was a junior in college I had a friend that always had a gap in between her eyeliner and eyelash line.  For some strange reason, it seriously drove me nuts!

When eyeliner is done correctly your lashes will look fuller and your liner will make your eyes stand out.  To achieve this is as simple as wiggling your eyeliner directly into your lash line.  Yup, that is it!   If you need to you can even lift your upper lid and tight lining underneath you lashes.  This way your eyeliner with be an enhancement and not a distraction from you beautiful eyes!

You may remember my recent post last week about using Dove soap and a gentle wash cloth to wash off your makeup.  Well this week’s tip is something just as simple yet I think it is another great tip…

Use Dove soap to wash your makeup brushes.

dove soap | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

You don’t always need to spend a ton of money on fancy brush cleansers.  While I do have several brush cleaners that I enjoy using For years I have been simply using Dove soap to wash my brushes.  It is very effective at removing makeup and cleaning my brushes without ruining the brushes.

I keep my Dove soap for my face and the Dove soap for my brushes separate, I store both of them in a plastic travel container.  It helps to keep the soap clean and fresh, while preventing it from drying out.  While I enjoy the shea butter to wash my face with, the original is my personal favorite for cleaning my brushes.
