~Weekly Product Highlight~ Smashbox Photo Matte Eyes Travel Palette~

Smashbox Photo Matte Eyes Travel Palette Review and Swatches | loookingjoligood.blog

I have to be honest, I only signed up for the April Birchbox because they were offering this Smashbox Photo Matte Eyes Travel Palette (value $25) for free with a promo code and “new” subscription.

birchbox | lookingjoligood.blog

Thanks, Birchbox,  for the “free” palette, but sorry, I already canceled my subscription because you sent me terrible samples…If you want to read about what I got in my April Birchbox you can click HERE.

As soon as my sister in law told me about this great deal I signed up! I was very excited to try out Smashbox eyeshadows.  I have loved several other Smashbox products, but have never tried any of their eyeshadows.

This palette contains eight all matte eyeshadows.  Each shadow weighs 0.62 gram for a total of 4.98 grams.  These matte shadows can be used both wet or dry, with or without a primer. The palette has a good variety of both warm and cool shades. Because of the consistency of the shadows and the tone range the shadows could also be used to fill in the brows for so many skin tones and brow shades.

Packaging

The packaging is made out of a black matte acrylic with the words Smashbox #shapematters | eyes” embossed on the top.  It snaps closed and feels very sturdy. It also has a good quality “large” mirror that is the size of the palette packaging.  The hinges are strong enough that the palette stays open and the mirror stays propped up.  The names of the shadows are one the back of the packaging.

Palette Impressions

  • The shadows are soft, smooth, and buttery
  • The pigmentation is great
  • The pan sizes are tiny but large enough to get my eyeshadow brushes into without difficulty
  • The shade selection is exactly what I use on a daily basis.
  • A variety of transition shades, deeper shades,  lid/ brow bone shades, and brow filling shades.
  • This palette can easily stand on its own and provide a complete eye look.
  • It is the perfect size for traveling.
  • I am overly pleased with it for $10 I paid for the cost of the Birchbox
  • Because of the small size, I would NEVER have paid the $25 asking price for this palette.
  • This palette is perfect for creating simple neutral everyday eye looks

Swatches

Swatches were applied with a dry flat brush to clean skin with a foundation base applied to the skin.

Smashbox Photo Matte Eyes Travel Palette Review and Swatches | loookingjoligood.blog

  • Vanilla- soft light beige
  • Wheat – soft warm brown
  • Grounded- medium cool brown
  • Rosehip- muted pink
  • Desert- medium/neutral brown
  • Earthy- warm brown
  • Canyon- dark brown
  • Haze-light gray

Dupes

As soon as I opened this palette I was immediately reminded of my Mad for Matte E.L.F. palette.  There are several shades that are absolute dupes for each other.  While I do really love my Made for Matte palette and use it in some way or another almost daily, the shadows in the Smashbox Photo Matte Eyes Travel Palette are a much better quality.  The Smashbox Photo Matte Eyes shadows apply and blend much easier.  One of my complaints with the Mad for Matte E.L.F. palette has always been that the shadows can tend to look a bit muddy when blended.

Simple Everyday Eye Look

These shadows apply and blend so easily that I accomplished this complete eye look in around 2 minutes.  Not bad!

  • Wheat as a transition shade in the crease
  • Earthy in the crease
  • Rosehip on the lid
  • Grounded on lower lash line
  • Vanilla on the brow bone
  • Canyon to fill in the brows

I love this palette!  If this is what the quality of all Smashbox’s eyeshadows are like, then I need to get some more!

What does the Smashbox Website have to say about it:

Smashbox Photo Matte Eyes Travel Palette Review and Swatches | loookingjoligood.blog

Plus, each -silky, richly pigmented dark shade intensifies when used wet.

Doucce Freematic Eyeshadow in Marisa Review

I received this eyeshadow in my March ipsy glam bag. I have received a few different products from ipsy from Doucce, but otherwise, I had never heard of the brand.   Ipsy marked this as a “Creator Fave” so I had high hopes for it.

Because of ipsy’s high recommendation, I decided to add this to the group of things I was trying for my current “How ’bout Them Samples” post.  As I started writing that post my review for this shadow was getting so long that I decided it deserved its own post…

doucce eyeshadow | lookingjoligood.blog

The last few times that I have received eyeshadows from ipsy they have given me some similar version of this rosy/orangey/cranberry red shade.  Generally, when it comes to eyeshadow, I lean towards neutral shades. Forcing myself to try out this Doucce Marisa shadow has really pushed me out of my usual everyday easy neutral comfort zone.

doucce marisa swatch | lookingjoligood.blog

The way I have been wearing this shadow while testing it out has been to put an eyeshadow primer on, a transition shade in the crease, and using a wet brush applying Marisa all over the lid and blending.  Once I apply and blend this shadow, the less rosy it looks and the more burnt orange it appears.

Despite the change from rose to orange, after a bit of work, I have been mostly pleased with the end result.  When using this shadow I always do my eyes first and then my face makeup afterward, you’ll see why below…

doucce fallout | lookingjoligood.blog

Here is what I think about this shadow…in the pan it is a beautiful sparkling deep rose color that is exactly what I love!  Although once swatched and applied, it is definitely has a more burnt orange undertone than a deep rosy pink…That is ok, not my favorite, but I could still work with it.

The metallic sparkles are gorgeous!  When applied dry the pigmentation and color payoff are only ok.  Once blended the sparkle and color fade significantly!  Applied with a wet brush or foiled in the pan the pigmentation is much better and the fallout is less significant.

While the shimmery metallic rosy orange color is quite pretty on lids, the fallout is insane!  Dry brush, wet brush, foiled in the pan, with primer, without primer, tapping my brush and then tapping it again…no matter how I used this shadow, there was so much fallout!

doucce back Marisa | lookingjoligood.blog
The back of the shadow has two tiny magnets on it to hold it into the quad or a z-palette

This 1.4 g size is a full-size shadow, the single shadows cost $10 each.  On the Doucce website, they have a customizable quad available for $35, which would make each shadow $8.75. There are 82 shades available: 15 matte shades and 67 shimmer shadows.

doucce quad | lookingjoligood.blog

What does the Doucce Website have to say about their shadows:

“A highly pigmented and passionately luxurious eyeshadow that serves as the building blocks of the Freematic Eyeshadow magnetic system. The 82 ready-to-wear colors come in both matte and shimmer textures, and can be used alone or within the Freematic system to create custom palettes. The versatile silky smooth powders are so rich it feels creamy. The fine weightless powders glide on easily and blend effortlessly without smudging or creasing. Apply dry for a more natural finish or apply wet for a more long lasting dramatic look.”

doucce shades | lookingjoligood.blog

Since this is the only Doucce shadow I have ever used, when it comes to application and fallout of the other shades, I don’t know if all the shadows by this brand are a similar formula. With 82 shades to choose from, I am really hoping that they are not all as terrible when it comes to fallout!

In summary:

Did I make it work while testing out this shadow?…Yes…Is this going to become a new go to look and go to shadow?… No. Do I recommend this eyeshadow in this shade?…I am going to have to say no.

Instead of spending $10 on one of these Freematic shadows, I would recommend spending $6 for a 1.5g MAC shadow (available in 112 shades) or $6 for a 1.8g Makeup Geek shadow (available in 103 shades) or $2.99 for a 2.3 g Maybelline Expert Eyewear single (available in 20 shades).  I highly reccommend these Maybelline shadows!  The shade Nude Glow is gorgeous!!!

Nude Glow Maybelline eyeshadow | lookingjoligood.blog

How about you? Have you ever heard of the brand Doucce?  Have you ever tried any Doucce Freematic Eyeshadows?  What did you think?  Did you find that the color changed with blending and that it had a lot of fallout?

Essence XXXL Shine Lipgloss Review and Swatches

nude kiss | lookingjoligood.blog

~Weekly Product Highlight~ Essence XXXL Shine Lipgloss~

I was watching a video by Drugstore Maven, and she recommended the Essence XXXL Shine Lipglosses.  Being a huge fan of glossy lips, the next time I was at Target I picked one up.

I am not exaggerating when I tell you I instantly fell in love with this gloss as soon as I put it on!

The gloss goes on smoothly and evenly without feeling sticky at all.   It does not bleed outside the lip line. It has a great sparkly shine that is not glittery.  The gloss also wears off well.  I cannot stand it when a sparkly gloss wears off leaving a weird looking glittery residue on the lips. (not cute!)

nude kiss | lookingjoligood.blog

The packaging is very simple and pretty yet sturdy. It comes in a transparent glass tube with a silver cap.  The name is on a label on the cap. The gloss has a long flat doe foot sponge tip applicator. I like the flat applicator because it holds a lot more product and applies the gloss nice and precisely.

Essence XXXL Shine Lipgloss | lookingjoligood.blog

The first shade I purchased was in 22 Nude Kiss. It has just a hint of pink shimmery color to it which can be worn alone or as a glossy topper over another lipstick.

Essence XXXL Shine Lipgloss | lookingjoligood.blog

Essence XXXL Shine Lipgloss | lookingjoligood.blog

After wearing Nude Kiss non-stop for several days, I knew that I had to get another shade of these glosses.  The second shade I picked up is 07 Big Night Out and 08 Glamour To Go. They are a sparkly mauve and a sparkly coral nude.

Essence XXXL Shine Lipgloss | lookingjoligood.blog

At only $2.49 a tube, this gorgeous lipgloss is a great deal!

As I do with most of my favorite makeup discoveries, I quickly shared it with my sisters and my sister in law.  The next day my sister sent me the below picture.  She got hers in 17 Fabulous Fuchsia.  Since then she told me that she loves it and has used her so much that it is almost gone.  A few days later she went back and picked up Nude Kiss as well.

Fabulous Fuchsia | lookingjoligood.blog

What does the Essence Website have to say about the XXXL Shine Lipglosses:

“Ultimate shine for your lips! The XXXL shine lipgloss pampers your lips without leaving behind a sticky feeling. Contains vitamin e and panthenol to moisturize and prevent lips from feeling dry. Available in 12 glossy shades.”

Now I have three of the 12 shades and I love them all.  They are all somewhat similar, yet a bit different, and all beautiful!

What about you?  Do you have any Essence XXXL Shine Lipglosses?  What do you think?  Which are your favorites?

Ipsy April 2017 Glam Bag

The beginning of April had been foggy and rainy and seems to drag on!  These last few days have been absolutely beautiful!  I hope this weather continues!

April’s theme is “Side Show”

“Step Right UP! Step Right UP!  Nows’s the time to be bold and shatter the mold…Standing out is the new fitting in.  This month’s bag is dedicated to anyone who’s ever felt like an outcast”

ipsy april 2017 | lookingjoligood.blog

If you follow me on Instagram you already saw my April bag.

(If you don’t know what ipsy is you can check out my previous post all about it by clicking HERE)

ipsy april 2017 | lookingjoligood.blog

I HATE this month’s bag!  The material is a faux leather feeling, bright orange shade with printing on it to look like a circus ticket.  The way that ipsy describes the bag is “This hawt red-orange bag is clutch for rides on the ferris wheel, killing it at the arcade, or you know, just being your uniquely awesome self all month long.”.  This bag looks very juvenile to me… My son wants it, and I am giving it to him.ipsy

Speaking of juvenile…I have to also admit that the kitchy talk and overly trendy way that ipsy describes things drives me nuts!!!  It feels as if they are trying waaaaaaay too hard to be cool and it is totally not working. (ie: dramz, gorge, hawt, probs, low key obsessed…) Anyway…

Here is what I got in my April 2017 ipsy glam bag:

Adessa lip balm ipsyAdesse New York Cupuaçu Butter Lip Balm 3 g

Ipsy describes this as a ginger mint scent. I don’t know if that is what I would call it, but it smells wonderful! This lip balm is perfect!  It’s made with cold pressed Cupuaçu butter.  All of Adesse New York’s formulas (even their nail stuff) are cruelty-free, vegan, and clean!

ipsy colourpopColourPop Cosmetics Crème Gel Pencil in Best O

The formula is super creamy, making application easy without any tugging or pulling.  I have received Colourpop liners in my glam bag before, so I already knew that the formula is super creamy.  I was glad to get something other than a black liner.  Mine is in Best O which is a deepened burgundy brown.

Others who received this sample either got Best O (deepened burgundy), DTLA (deep blackened blue), Mr. Bing (rich warm brown), Show Me (vivid true copper), or Swerve (true onyx black).

hikari ipsyHikari Cosmetics Cream Pigment Eyeshadow in Honey Dew

This shadow is absolutely gorgeous!  I have gotten a few different samples from Hikari and I have loved all of them.  I think this shadow is one of my favorite things that I have ever recieved from ipsy

ofra peach blushOFRA Cosmetics Peach Blush

In the pan it looks like a coral blush, on the cheeks it is a beautiful gold toned highlight.  Not a blush at all, but that is fine because I have gotten several blush samples from ipsy in a similar coral shade.

Ipstiers could recieve this blush in one of three colors:
‘Peach’ shade is perfect for a flirty, warm-toned flush (v. on trend right now).  The ‘Format’ shade is the perfect rich terracotta shade for a warm, bronzey glow. The ‘Rendezvous’ shade is a classic, cool-toned, soft rose that looks amazing on all skin tones

I am still trying to decide between Glossy box and Boxy charm and haven’t signed up for either of them yet.  Although, I have to admit that I signed up for Birchbox again just for April.  (Stay tuned to find out why and what I got in my box.)

If you have been reading my posts for any amount of time you know that I love to give my opinion and I love free stuff.  There is actually a place online that both of these things come together…

Let me tell you about Influenster.com

Infuenster is a product discovery platform that lets opinionated, social media savvy consumers like you discover and share knowledge on products through sampling, reviews, and more!”

Influenster is a program that sends out boxes full of free stuff in hopes that you’ll use your social media influence to tell everyone you know what you think of these products.  They call these sample boxes “VoxBoxes”

I recently received the Charm Voxbox and even while I received all the products complimentary, all opinions are my own.

One virtual voxbox I was part of was to take a picture of a product at the store and post it to a social media platform of my choice.  That was it.  Pretty simple.

Ipsy March 2017 Glam Bag

beautiful | lookingjoligood.blog

March’s theme is “Tres Jolie! You’re Beautiful (pass it on)”

March’s ipsy glam bag is already here and since I am just posted my February ipsy glam bag review a few days ago, this month seems to have flown by!

If you follow me on Instagram you already saw my March bag.

march ipsy glam bag | lookingjoligood.blog

I love this month’s bag!  The material is a soft faux suede that is a light dusty rose pink shade with a black and white mesh overlay on one side. It has a super cute rose gold zipper pull. This month’s bag is different from all the other bags in that this one is larger than usual. The top section can be folded over making it the size of most ipsy bags.

Here is what I got in my March 2017 ipsy glam bag:

Doucce Freematic Eyeshadow in Marisa

This product is noted to be a “Creator Favorite”  It is a beautiful color, but once again, this is another tiny little sample from doucce.

  • Weighing in at 1.4 g
  • “The shimmery rose color may look more like a blush, but is insanely pretty on lids. Try it alone (just add a little mascara) for a daytime look or with winged out liner for girly-glam vibes.

  • We heart dual-purpose powders! This one goes on dry for a more natural and subdued effect or wet for amped up drama.

  • Our Creators are obsessed with how this powder formula glides right on without caking or creasing.”

I kinda hate getting hair products in my glam bags.  It is better than nail polish, but only like one step above it.  This product is supposed to be a 10 in 1: detangler, stregthener protector against damage, and speed up drying time all while adding shine.  I think that it has a very pleasant scent, but you know me, super sensitive to scents…it gives me a headache. Oldie But Goodies!

I was cleaning up and decluttering my makeup collection the other day and rediscovered some great products I had completely forgotten about! One of the main reasons that I decided to go on a no buy was that very reason!  I have so many wonderful products that get lost in the shuffle because of the newer items that I add in.

Here is the look that I came up with using my oldie but goodie products.

Some much-loved makeup! I have a lot of products, so when I hit pan this hard you know that they have got to be great products!

Here is a list of the products worn in this look:

Benefit Porefessional primer
Real Techniques Beauty Sponge
Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless shade 120
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer in brightener
Rimmel Stay Matte Setting Powder
NYC Cosmetics Smooth Skin Bronzer in Sunny
Wet N Wild Color Icon Blusher in Pearlescent Pink (old packaging and shade, so much better than the new shade)
Wet N Wild Single Eyeshadow in Creme Brulee
Clinique Stay the Day Eyeshadow in 01 Blushing Nude (I’m pretty sure this isn’t even available anymore.)
Wet N Wild Petal Pusher Palette
Marcelle Waterproof Eyeliner in Mulberry
Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara
Maybelline Lip Sensational Lipsticks#450 Mauve Mania

makeup of the day | lookingjoligood.blog

Recently I have been using BB creams and had completely stopped using both my real techniques beauty sponge as well as this Maybelline Matte and Poreless Fit Me Foundation.  Both are such great products.

swatches | lookingjoligood.blog

I had completely forgotten about my Wet N Wild Petal Pusher Palette!  I enjoyed using it just as much as I remembered, I’ll be adding this back into my rotation.  These purple and pink shades compliment my brown eyes so nicely!

I just heard that NYC Cosmetics will definitely no longer be sold in the US. I’m so upset about this since this bronzer is one of my favorites as well as the NYC loose setting powder and the liquid liner. (NYC will still be sold in Canada, this is one time that you Canadians luck out ;-))

Ipsy February 2017 Glam Bag

ipsy february 2017 | lookingjoligood.blog

What? It is March and I am just posting my February ipsy glam bag!  I got this ipsy bag mid February, and then left for vacation a few minutes later (of course I took a bunch of photos of it first, haha).  I had such an amazing vacation and completely forgot to write a post about my ipsy.

February’s theme is “Much Love”

ipsy february 2017 | lookingjoligood.blog

(If you don’t know what ipsy is you can check out my previous post all about it by clicking HERE)

If you follow me on Instagram you already saw my February bag.

This month’s bag is super cute!  The material is jean with orange cording around the edge and a lip shaped zipper pull.  This time my son took one look at it and said “It’s mine!”  His favorite color is orange, so I let him have it.

Here is what I got in my February bag:

be fine cleanser | lookingjoligood.blog

BeFine Food Skin Care Gentle Face Cleanser

This brand’s formulas are completely vegan and packed with good-for-your-skin, natural ingredients. The minty scent is nice and refreshing.  I have been using this since I got it and have really enjoyed the way it makes my skin feel. I have received a few other products from BeFine and, so far, I really like this brand overall.

what up beaches bronzer | lookingjoligood.blog

Elizabeth Mott Whatup Beaches Matte Bronzer

Matte bronzers always look more natural than shimmery ones.  It has a really nice neutral brown shade and feels soft and silky, but seriously Could this bronzer sample be any smaller? Trying to use this on my face will take me forever!  I think I will use it as an eyeshadow.  Possibly it could make a nice transition shade…

iby beauty | lookingjoligood.blog

IBY Beauty Highlighter in Bubbly

I have never heard of this brand before? Have any of you?  When I first saw this I thought, just what I need another tiny coral blush sample, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it is a beautiful highlighter.

This peachy pink powder can be used as a highlighter or an eye shadow, or even dabbed on lips.  I have been enjoying it so far this month.  I feel like it gives a great glow without being too over the top.  I like to wear highlighter, but I prefer it to be a more subtle glow from within than a ba-bam in your face highlight.

luxie brush | lookingjoligood.blog

Luxie Beauty Luxie Rose Gold Blush Brush 514

I have mentioned before that I both love and hate getting brushes in my ipsy bags.  I have gotten some awesome brushes that I use on a daily basis, and then I have gotten some that I have never used.  I have a few Luxie brushes and I enjoy them.  This one is super soft and the bristles are vegan, synthetic, and cruelty-free.  They call this a blush brush, but I don’t know…I haven’t decided yet how I am going to use it…I also haven’t used it yet that isn’t really a good sign.

nyx butter lipstick | lookingJoligood.blog

NYX Professional Makeup Butter™ Lipstick in Ripe Berry
  • “Right now this satin finish is our goldilocks texture. Glossy is too much. Matte isn’t doing the trick. But this is just right!

  • These are so insanely creamy that there’s no need to use a lip balm beforehand.

  • Ripe Berry is a totally approps name; the hue (which has cool, purple undertones) reminds us of crushed raspberries.

  • Lifeguard, a deep magenta, is bold but wearable—even for babes too shy to rock a statement lip. We grab it on days when we don’t want to commit to full-on red.”

When I first saw this lipstick I thought, great another bright red lipstick in a shade I will never wear.  Then I put it on… I was shocked by how much I love it!  I am so picky with the formula of lipsticks that I will wear.  This one is smooth and glossy and comfortable.  It doesn’t dry out my lips at all and wears off evenly.  This is the only lipstick that I brought on vacation with me and I wore it the entire time we were away. It also leaves a bit of a stain on my lips.  I will definitely be purchasing more of these Butter lipsticks from NYX.
