I have been doing really well with not making any unnecessary beauty purchases! I don’t think that I have ever gone this long before. So far, so good. I have made one purchase that was unnecessary, but that is another post…
As part of my self imposed “strict no buy”, I decided to use neglected samples that I have already received. Since I started doing this a few months ago I have really enjoyed trying out new things.
I have so many samples from ipsy bags, or Target boxes and others from Walmart beauty boxes. I think a lot of times the excitement of getting the new things is greater than that of actually trying out and using the samples. I will let you know in a few weeks what I think of each thing and if I would purchase these items based on my thoughts from these samples.
Here is the third group of what I have decided to try out…
Beauty For Real Eyeliner
CeraVe Eye Repair Cream
Jelly Pong Pong Neapolitan Palette
Laneige Water Bank Moisture Cream
Loreal Advanced Haircare Smooth Intense Shampoo
Loreal Advanced Haircare Total Repair Shampoo
Olay Active Botanicals
Ren Ever Calm Day Cream
Shea Moisture Fruit Fusion Coconut Water Weightless Shampoo and Creme Rinse

When I first pulled this little bronzer out of my ipsy bag, I thought great another tiny sparkly bronzer sample from ipsy that I will never use. I even sent my sister in law a text complaining about it and making fun of the sparkles in it. The swatches were nothing special and I figured that if I used it it would probably be for eyeshadow. (You know, because I don’t have enough neutral eyeshadows already. Haha!)
Do any of you try out new makeup at night before you wash your face and get ready for bed? Who else does this? Anyone? Sometimes I take so long getting “unready” my husband has got to be wondering what I am doing in there. Well, mystery solved. I tried out this bronzer before washing my face and couldn’t believe how beautiful it is.
I figured that maybe it was just looking good because of the other makeup I still had on so I tried it again the next day, and the next, and I have been using it every day since. I am a pale girl, so I need bronzer to help me look alive. This bronzer has been working amazing at livening up my completion.
I have never heard of this brand before and when I checked out the website linked from ipsy I couldn’t find the bronzer trio on the site. I don’t know how much a full size costs, or where I can find it to purchase one, but for now I am really enjoying this little sample.
Sometimes first impressions are dead on, and other times after trying something out a few more times you realize that it is actually a great product.

A few weeks ago I was looking online at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I wasn’t planning on buying anything when all of a sudden I spotted the Lorac Refined Romance Eye/cheek Palette. You may remember that I am on a strict self imposed no buying of new makeup. You may also remember that I really really love LORAC. I went back and forth about whether I wanted to buy another palette. I decided that at a price of only $18, I just couldn’t pass up this palette.
Let me just cut to the chase...It is worth every cent!
The packaging is a sturdy glossy black cardboard with beautiful pink floral artwork on it. It is the same size as the Pro Palettes, but contains fewer shades. Each of the 6 shadows ia a larger pan size than the pro palettes. There are six eyeshadows (2 matte 4 shimmery), two highlighters, and a blush as well as a full-size mirror.
As far as I can tell, the palette doesn’t have the shade names written on it anywhere, it just says shade 1-6 and highliter 1and 2, but according to the Nordstrom website, the shades do have names…
Eyeshadows:
Ivory Shimmer
Gold Shimmer
Burgundy/Brown Shimmer
Light Rose/Taupe Matte
Light Purple Shimmer
Burgundy/Brown Matte
Face Powders:
Cream Shimmer
Light Pink Shimmer
Rose Matte Blush
The above swatches are on my bare skin, I didn’t use any primer. Both the matte and shimmery shades are equal in intensity and pigmentation.
The shades are highly pigmented, soft and smooth easy to work with and blend. They go on beautifully. I really feel like this is such a great palette for only $18, it has the quality of a $40 Lorac palette. With these beautiful neutral shades you can transition from summer right into the fall and even the winter months.
The shadows are very softs, so be careful with it. My taupe matte shade was a a little cracked when I received my palette. I could probably send it back and get a new one, but I am not sure if I want to go through all the hassle. Of course, I can still use it no problem, but it isn’t perfect…sigh…
The two highlighters are shimmery and smooth, they don’t have chunky glitter in them like some highlighters do. The pink rosy blush is a beautiful matte shade. The below swatches are on my bare skin, I didn’t use any primer. Both the matte and shimmery shades are equal in intensity and pigmentation.
This is a limited edition, Nordstrom exclusive. I got mine during the Anniversary sale, but it is still available now for $18. I’m not sure how long it will be available so don’t wait too long if you’re thinking about getting it. It’s definitely worth the money!

It is ipsy glam bag time again! I don’t know about you, but I always loving seeing what everyone else received in their bags every month. (If you don’t know what ipsy is you can check out my previous post all about it by clicking HERE)
This month’s ipsy theme is Sugar Highness (I’ve had a few sugar highs in my life, I love candy!). “Let Us All Eat Cake. Get gorgeously glammed up and dip into everyday decadence—gone wildly galore.”
The glam bag itself is not my favorite. “Illustrated by ipsy founder Michelle Phan to inspire the beautiful dreamer in all of us.” I’m just going to come right out and say it, it is ugly. I like that the zipper is across the top, a feature that I prefer best the material it is made out of is like a faux leather, I like that, and the shape is good. Too bad about that picture, nope, this one is going to be part of my daughter’s collection.

Beauty For Real I-LINE 24-7 Eyeliner in Black Magic
In 2016 I have received 5 black eyeliners from ipsy. I mean, really? How many eyeliners does one person need, really?
The only thing I am happy about is that it is a no sharpener needed eyeliner.
Beaute Basics 3 Tone Bronzer
“The triple threat of bronzers. Three silky smooth shades perfect for all skin tones. All in one carry-anywhere palette for glow on-the-go.
Wear alone or together as a bonus fourth shade. Looks for days—and nights.
Blendable and buildable, so you can create your perfect tan.
All-day formula for illumination that lasts”
Peter Lamas Supreme Radiance Complexion Booster
“Lightly-tinted and ultra sheer, this booster is the perfect brightening pick-me-up for your everyday look. Major bonus: it feels ah-maz-ing on your skin.
Retinol + Salicylic Acid = Fine lines and wrinkle reducer power couple
Light reflecting minerals make you look instantly radiant
Coenzyme Q-10 and Vitamin E Oil help hydrate, smooth, and protect skin”
Ciaté London Paint Pot in Dangerous Affair or Spinning Teacups
I pulled this out of my bag and literally growled! I HATE getting nail polish in my glam bags! I guess I cannot complain too much, it has been a few months since they have sent me one. Instead they have been sending the steady stream of eyeliners. I would much prefer the eyeliners, at least I will use them.
Dangerous Affair: No stranger danger here. Look poised and ready for any liaison this fall in this stunning shade of burgundy. Red and ready for action.
tarte cosmetics tarteist lash paint mascara
Ok, so as much as I hate nail polish, I love mascara, so I will forgive you ipsy…
“No lash left behind. Fanned bristles at the top of the brush reach every single lash, even the teeniest. It’s like 2 brushes in one—and we love that kind of versatility at ipsy.
Go dark. Inky formula instantly adds fullness and length.
No clumps or stickiness in sight
Vegan, ophthalmologist and dermatologist tested”

I have been testing out these two mascaras for quite a while. Despite the fact that they are both great, I do prefer one over the other. Mascara is such a personal thing. I really like when a mascara has a huge brush, (and these mascaras all have a huge brush.) I like a drier formula that isn’t too heavy that it uncurls my lashes, and I also want it to dry quickly.
To test them out I wore them both at the same time for several weeks. Always wearing the Smashbox Full Exposure on my left eye and Benefit Bad gal Lash on my right eye.
Here are my findings….
I am wearing shadows from the Lorac Love Lust and Lace Palette on my eyes.
Both of these mascaras are pretty good and I have enjoyed trying them both out at the same time. A lot of things about them are actually very similar. Both the Full Exposure Mascara and The BAD gal Lash Mascara have similar big wands.
I noticed that the Full Exposure Mascara took longer to dry so it left little black smudges on my upper eye area if I wasn’t careful about it. The BAD gal Lash Mascara on the other hand is a much drier mascara that dried more quickly. Because it is drier, over the course of the day The BAD gal Lash Mascara tended to flake a bit and leave little black spots under my eyes.
The Full Exposure Mascara gave my lashes some really nice length with good volume, while I found that The BAD gal Lash Mascara seemed to create more volume with some lengthening.
Both of these mascara remind me of the Neutrogena Healthy Volume Mascarathat I talked about in my How ’bout Them Samples post. As I said in that post the formula of the Neutrogena mascara is great for length, but not so much for building volume, which is strange since the name “Healthy Volume” claims volume. Who knows? Is it my favorite mascara ever? No. Would I recommend it? Yes.
Look at how similar these three brushes are!
What do the websites have to say about these mascaras?…
WHAT IS IT? Created on set in our L.A.photo studio to be our most versatile mascara! The oversized tapered brush and fiber formula work overtime to create outrageous volume, serious lift and a high-shine, glossy finish.
Why IT’S UNIQUE: • Full, glossy, lifted lashes • Interlocking, glossy fibers sculpt lashes up and out • Olive oil complex for silky-soft lashes • Clump, flake & smudge-free
Get it on: • Starting at the base of lashes, sweep mascara up and out. Apply a second coat for added fullness and length.”

Here is another day using these awesome makeup products! I am so glad that I got the Fireball Urdan decay eyeshadow in my ipsy glam bag. It quickly became one of my favorites. The Mad for Matte ELF eye sadow palette is such a great one, and for only $10 it is a must have! If you haven’t tried out the Almay smar shade yet, you need too!
I am a big fan of BB/CC creams and this Almay Smart Shade is now a new favorite! If you want something lightweight to wear during the summer when it’s hot and humid this BB cream is perfect. It gives the right amount of coverage without feeling heavy. It leaves a flawless looking, smooth base for makeup. Like most BB/CC creams it provides sheer/light cover that can be built up to slight medium coverage.
As you can tell from the above photo, it comes out of the tube an off white slight beige and as it is rubbed in it transforms into your skin’s color for a perfect shade match. I don’t know how they do it, but it is amazing!
Con: It only comes in 3 shades: light, light/medium and medium. Not a great range.
Natural lighting is the best! You may remember this look from my recent Makeup Of The Day post. Check it out to see everything that I am wearing on my face.
It reminds me a lot of the Loreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream and has a very similar formula and wear. I cannot decide which of the two I prefer, they are so similar. (The Loreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream does come in four shades: fair, light, medium, and deep, as well as two other formulas one for anti-aging and one for anti-redness.)
“Almay smart shade™ makeup makes it easy to find “the one” with just three skintone-adjusting shades to choose from, not hundreds! It adjusts to the natural tones and nuances of your skin with breakthrough almay tonemimic™ shade-sensing bead technology, which intuitively transforms to your skintone for all day natural looking coverage in your perfect shade. Contains broad spectrum spf 15. Hypoallergenic. Dermatologist tested. Made for sensitive skin.”
What about you? Have you tried any of these Almay Smart Shade? What do you think? Have you used other smart shade makeups? I would love to hear your opinion!
As I have mentioned several times, I have been “shopping” from my own collection of makeup in my effort to not buy new makeup items. I forget that I already own a lot of great products! I continue to rediscovered so many great products that I have been completely neglecting.
When I first got these LORAC Love, Lust & Lace Matte & Shimmer Eye Shadow Palettes I used them all the time. As time has gone by they had gotten lost in the shuffle. I am so glad that I brought them out to use again because I remembered why I love them so much. Since I have dark brown eyes using the warm purple toned gray really compliments my eyes.
Yup that is 3 different mascaras. I have recently been testing out the full exposure and bad gal lash mascaras at the same time, and well, I have super sad straight lashes so I need the waterproof Great Lash in order to keep my curl. (What a long story, haha) I’m not going to tell you quite yet which eye has which mascara on it, but look closely and tell me if you can spot a difference.
How about you, have you tried any of the products that I have on my face today? Do you like to test out similar products at the same time to compare them to each other?

Just in case you are wondering what I am wearing on my face today. As you know, I love Lorac Alter Ego Lipgloss. Urban Decay’s Fireball is gorgeous! Coty Airspun powder is my go to loose face powder and I don’t know where I would be without my eyelash curler.
Last time I posted a Makeup of the Day T&S from thriftymeetsplurgy.com requested to see my make up look as well, so even though I don’t usually take a lot of selfies, here is a photo of my look.
All my pale in the middle of the summer girls give me a high five, haha!
In my effort to not buy new makeup items, I have been “shopping” from my own collection of makeup. I have rediscovered so many great products that I had completely forgotten that I love. One of the rediscovered items is the Milani Shadow Eyez 12Hr Wear Eyeshadow Pencil in11 SAND DUNES Shimmering Taupe. I forgot how much I love this product!
The pigmentation is amazing, it dries quickly and does not wear off at all during the day. I have a heavy fold to my lids, so sometimes my lid shade ends up in my crease, so annoying! (all you heavy fold and hooded eye girls, you know what I mean right?!) This shimmer doesn’t transfer off my lid at all.
After I applied the swatch for the above picture, I completely forgot about it and didn’t try to remove it. When I woke up the next morning I saw it on my arm and couldn’t believe that it had lasted so long. It was definitely on my arm for about 18 hours and hadn’t smudged or worn off at all.
It comes in 10 different shades ranging from neutral tan/beige to bright teals and greens. I also had the colors 08 ESPRESSO LINE Matte Espresso Brown and 06 ROYAL PURPLE Blue-Purple Sheen. While they were both super pigmented and lasted all day, I found them hard to blend and couldn’t get either color to work well for me.
This water-resistant and crease-proof eyeshadow pencil can be worn multiple ways—as a shadow, liner and highlighter. Sharpened to a fine point, it defines. Softly smudged, it adds color. Swept under the brow bone in one of the paler hues, it catches the light. It’s perfect for creating any eye-catching look on the go.
APPLICATION
Apply the pencil directly to the lid, then blend. After use, always replace the cap so the tip does not dry out. Sharpen with Duo Sharpener.”
What about you? Have you tried any of the Milani Shadow Eyez 12Hr Wear Eyeshadow Pencil? What do you think? Have you used other chubby pencil long wearing eye makeups? I would love to hear your opinion!
