Weekly Product Highlight~SoapBox Shampoo and Conditioner

I have seen this brand sold at Target, but have never purchased it for myself.  I was happy to see that it was included in the spice voxbox I recently received from Influenster.  When reading about this brand I realized what an awesome company it is!  For every product sold, a bar of soap or a month of clean water is given to a person in need.  Each bottle has a Hope Code printed on it, you can put it into the tracker on the soapbox website to see where your bottle is helping.

They partner with Global Soap Project, a nonprofit that collects hotel soap remnants and remakes them into new bars.
They also work with Splash, an organization that comes alongside local governments and aid organizations to take the clean water infrastructure multinational food corporations use and apply it to orphanages and children’s hospitals.

As for the product itself… I am usually not a huge fan of the coconut scent, but this product doesn’t have an overly coconut smell.  I think it seems a bit more almond like.  It is pleasant. I do like the shampoo, but I have really been enjoying the conditioner. It is thick and creamy, and a little goes a long way.

Both products are color safe, sulfate free and paraben free, as well as free of phthalates, EDTA and artificial colorants.  Happily these are cruelty free, not tested on animals.

SoapBox Shampoo and Conditioner | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

When I put my hope code into the tracker I was told that my bottles would be helping with providing water to Napal and India

The Project: Clean Water and Hygiene Education

Quick Facts

Scope: 650 Public Schools

Start Date: 2007

Projected Exit: 2020

Children Served: 90,503 daily

City: Kathmandu, Nepal

Population: 1,744,240

The city of Kathmandu is growing fastest of all other cities in Southeast Asia due to general population trends of moving from countryside into urban centers and the desire of locals to find economic opportunities and escape a decades-long civil war. Because of this urban growth, water quality levels have been affected. More than 70% of the water sources in the Kathmandu Valley were found to be contaminated with e Coli in randomized water tests, contributing to a 130% higher rate of diarrheal diseases among the urban poor compared to their wealthier peers in the same city. On top of this, they also pay up to 3x as much as their wealthier peers for the same water.

The Project: Clean Water, Hygiene Education, and Sanitation

Quick Facts

Scope: 3,000 Sites

Start Date: 2012

Projected Exit: 2025

Children served: 17,042 daily

 City: Kolkata

Population: 14,112,536

20% of schoolchildren in Kolkata live in slums. Kolkata (Calcutta) is a difficult city to tackle because it has widely available water in slums like these, but it is, almost across the board, contaminated. Splash decided that the best way to drive change within this massive infrastructure was to start with schools because schools are the most consistent platform across the more than 140 wards of the city for a program roll-out, and also the fastest way to begin. By providing 2,000 schools with clean water solutions and hygiene education and 1,000 additional child serving locations like orphanages and shelters, Splash hopes to change the levels of expectation in regard to water quality standards. In addition, Splash has partnered with local organizations to implement sanitation initiatives like With backing from the Indian government, success looks promising!

Why Water?

Without water, soap isn’t much use to anyone! That’s why SoapBox products contribute to clean water initiatives too. Water related diseases are one of the leading causes of death worldwide, and water-spread diarrheal diseases are the second leading cause of death among children under the age of 5. More children could be saved by fixing this issue than eliminating malaria, AIDS, and measles combined!

Who is Splash?

Our clean water donations are given through our great aid partner, Splash. SoapBox chose Splash because of their focus on providing clean water by use of succinct programs that independently run after Splash exits the community, leaving behind clean water and hygiene education.

Splash cleans water for kids. Using commercially proven technology – the same used by leading global food chains and hotels – Splash secures world-class water filtration for kids who would otherwise rely on unclean water in their schools, orphanages, or other institutions. Beyond this, Splash both creates and delivers hygiene education programs, and also partners with local experts in sanitation, thereby advancing the full complement of WASH (“Water, Sanitation & Hygiene”) interventions required to fight water-borne illness. – See more at: www.splash.org.

Dark Chocolates with Creamy Coffee Filling by Cafe Britt Once again, dark chocolate, I couldn’t eat this one either.
PB2 Powdered Peanut Butter by Bell Plantation Kinda weird, didn’t quite taste like peanut butter, but with so little fat, I bet it would work awesome in a smoothy with bananas.
Hint Of Lime Navy Bean Chips with Sea Salt by Beanitos I have already found these at my local grocery store and bought them. So delicious!

Fruit Leather by You Love Fruit very interesting!  My kids were not impressed at all but I enjoyed the flavor
Midnight Brownie Gluten-Free Cookies by Goodie Girl  Once again, dark chocolate, I couldn’t eat this one either.
Sweet Corn Crunch Dried Snacks by Sensible Foods  Yeah, these were really weird!  They tasted just like canned corn, only they are dehydrated.  Not a fan!

Chocolate Peppermint Stick Mini Bar by LUNA One of my favorite things is chocolate and peppermint together!  This was only 90 calories and was delicious!

Liquicroc Caramels by Maison Pecou This was a dark chocolate candy, and sadly for me, I am allergic to dark chocolate.  Que the sad music with the small violins 😉

Bonus Items: Tea by Numi Tea I really like Numi teas.  I have bought this brand in the past and have always been impressed.

Bonus Items: Love With Food Chapstick  I have been loving the chapstick!  I always have to have some sort of gloss or chapstick on my lips so I was happy that this is a good one.

Ipsy Glam Bag December 2015

Ipsy December glam bag | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

I can’t believe that another month has flown by and it is already time to receive another ipsy glam bag!  If you don’t know what ipsy is you can check out my previous post all about it by clicking HERE

If you are thinking about trying out ipsy, here is my referral link  https://www.ipsy.com/new?refer=uqdkx

This month’s glam bag is a bright Christmas red.  It has a patten leather feel to it.  It is a half moon shape which makes it a bit smaller than usual.  Not my favorite bag, but I do like that the zipper is on the top instead of across the side like several of the last few bags.

I actually received my bag last week and have already been using the products.  So this will be a bit of a mini review as well.

Ipsy December glam bag | lookingjoligood.wordpress.comSwissco Soft Touch Slant Tweezers

I am super picky when it comes to tweezers.  I hate to have to say it but these just didn’t live up to my standards. They have a nice feel to them, but the tip is just too thick and blunt to really get ahold of those tough stubborn hairs.

Be A Bombshell Cosmetics Mechanical Eye Liner

This did not swatch too well, but I have to say that since I have been using it I have really enjoyed it.  I got the color wild child which is kind of like an off black.  I really like that it is a mechanical liner.  I feel as if so much product gets wasted with the types that need to be sharpened.

Ipsy December glam bag | lookingjoligood.wordpress.comLATHER honey moisture mask with propolis extract

I LOVE this mask!  It has a great feel and my skin has been loving the extra moisture!  I also love the honey scent!  This is my favorite thing that I got in my glam bag this month.

A super-hydrating mask to relieve stressed skin that has been over-exposed to environmental pollutants and nature’s harsh elements. Specially blended with propolis extract, natural honey, nourishing minerals and vitamins, this mask revitalizes the skin’s texture with deep-penetrating nutrients. Paraben-free.

Ipsy December glam bag | lookingjoligood.wordpress.comPacifica  Power Of Love Natural Lipstick
Not the perfect color for me, but still very pretty and it lives up to the product claims.

Amazingly creamy, highly-pigmented, and naturally moisturizing – this lipstick is packed with all the vitamins and antioxidants your lips crave. Made with coconut oil, shea butter, and vitamin E. 100% Vegan & Cruelty-Free.

ipsy glam bag | lookingjoligood.wordpress.comFORMULA X  Nail Polish in Revved Up

When they sent out the preview email, I saw all the awesome possibilities… and the nail polish.  I thought to myself, with all these awesome possibilities, I REALLY  hope I don’t get the nail polish !  You guys! You’ve got to me kidding me! I got ANOTHER nail polish!!!  I hate nail polish!  Why do I keep getting nail polish?!   With washing my hands and wearing gloves all day at work, I can’t wear it, and I get my feet done at the salon.  I am not going to lie, when I saw that I got yet another nail polish in my ipsy glam bag, I was so mad!  I felt like a huge baby, but I was seriously so upset!  I HATE nail polish!  I talked to the ipsy customer service and while they are super nice and helpful, there really isn’t anything that they can do about it. I felt better that at least I was able to vent about it to someone at ipsy.  Obviously this is my LEAST favorite thing that I got in my bag this month!

How about you?   Did you get an ipsy’s glam bag?  What did you get in yours?  Were you happy with your samples?  Do you get any other monthly subscription bags/boxes that are worth trying out?  Let me know in the comments below.

Weekly Product Highlight: Maybelline COLOSSAL VOLUM’ EXPRESS® WATERPROOF MASCARA IN GLAM BLACK

Mascara is my jam! Lol!  I love to have beautiful eyelashes.

Snuffleupagus' eyelashes | lookingjoligood.wordpress.comWhile I do have longish lashes, they are super straight and droopy. They remind me of Snuffleupagus’ eyelashes from Sesame Street. I have to curl them or they stick straight down.  They cannot handle regular mascara, I have to use waterproof mascara if I have any prayer of keeping a curl.

I am so jealous of all you girls that never have to use an eyelash curler!  My sister has naturally dark curled lashes, so not fair!

All that being said, I am super particular about mascaras! I expect A LOT from my mascara.  I want a beautiful natural yet volumized, lengthened, not clumpy look with no flaking and an all day hold.  That isn’t too much to ask for is it?!

I have gone through a lot of trial and error with mascaras.  Unfortunately, it took me a while to figure out that I needed to be wearing a waterproof mascara. I have a whole graveyard of mascaras that did not work for me!   After doing some research and trying so many different mascaras, I have finally found my all time favorite waterproof mascara.

I love the Maybelline VOLUM’ EXPRESS® THE COLOSSAL WATERPROOF MASCARA IN GLAM BLACK.  It gives me a a beautiful natural yet volumized lengthening not clumpy look with no flaking and an all day hold.  That is exactly what I am looking for 😉Maybelline VOLUM' EXPRESS® THE COLOSSAL WATERPROOF MASCARA IN GLAM BLACK. | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Not Your Mother’s Whip it up Styling Mousse

Weekly Product Highlight~Hair Mousse~

Not Your Mother's Mousse | lookingjoligood.wordpress.comFortunately for me, I have a great hair cut that without much fuss falls into place on its own.  Unfortunately for me, I am not without hair issues, I have very straight somewhat fine hair that doesn’t have much volume.

I have used all different types of volume inducing products and mousses in the past.  Overall I am usually pretty wary of them, mostly because they can end up sticky and heavy.  Not so with this Not Your Mother’s Whip it up Styling Mousse.  It isn’t like that at all. It is lightweight, so easy to apply, and gives my hair extra lift at the roots. I was surprised how much volume it put into my hair without weighing it down.

Another awesome thing about this mousse is that a lot goes a long way!  It is smooth, thick, and creamy.  It doesn’t leave my hands feeling sticky.  I absolutely hate it when through out the day if I run my hands through my hair and they end up with a sticky feeling.  That doesn’t happen at all with this mousse! Yay!

If all that isn’t already good enough, it smells absolutely delicious! It has a sweet vanilla cupcake frosting scent!  I love products that smell great and work awesome!

If you want to check out the Not Your Mother’s brand here are links to their Instagram and Facebook pages

What does the Not Your Mother’s website have to say?

Does dreaming of vanilla bean crème brûlée leave you weak in the knees? Then Whip It Up will definitely have you believing in sugar plum fairies. This delicious vanilla cupcake scented mousse is rich in moisturizers to tame those frizzies as well body building volumizers for big hair dreams. It may smell sugary sweet, but this salon formula styling mousse won’t leave your fingers (or your hair) sticky!

Shake the can well. Turn can upside and dispense a small amount into the hand. Work evenly through hair, concentrating at the root to create volume and hold for any big style you crave. Proceed with styling.

**While I did receive this product from Influenster to test and review, as always, all the opinions are my own.**

This or That: Yes to grapefruit daily facial scrub and Garnier Clean + Balancing Daily Exfoliator

I am going to be starting a new series called this or that comparing two similar products.

For my first This or That I am going to compare:

Yes to grapefruit daily facial scrub
and
Garnier Clean + Balancing Daily Exfoliator for Combination Skin

I have normal to combination skin. I live in the North East where the weather has gotten colder.

Let’s see what the products claim…

Yes to Grapefruit Daily Facial Scrub

Yes to Grapefruit Correct & Repair Daily Facial Scrub | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Yes to Grapefruit Daily Facial Scrub is a gentle daily exfoliator to help slough away dead skin cells and restore your skin’s natural radiance. It is formulated with Lemon Balm to help calm and repair damaged skin and Grapefruit, which naturally evens skin tone and enhances luminosity, leaving skin soft, smooth, and naturally hydrated.

MAKES SKIN BRIGHTER, CLEARER, AND MORE RADIANT!

  • 99% Natural
  • Petroleum, SLS, & Paraben Free
  • Cruelty-free”

Garnier Clean + Balancing Daily Exfoliator for Combination Skin

Garnier Clean + Balancing Daily Exfoliator for Combination Skin | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Combination skin has specific cleansing needs. To look and feel its best, it needs the right clean and specific care. Go beyond clean…

Customized Cleansing: Daily gel exfoliator targets T-Zone to deeply cleanse away oil and impurities.

Skin Type Specific Care: Formula, infused with antioxidants, Grapefruit and Pomegranate softens dry areas to balance skin.

Results:

In 1 use: Excess oil is removed and skin is smoothed.

After 1 week: Skin’s texture is refined and complexion balanced.”

My Findings

Yes to Grapefruit Daily Facial Scrub
$10 for 4 oz
99% Natural
Great natural real grapefruit scent
Does not lather
After daily use for a month my skin looked more radiant and felt smooth

Garnier Clean + Balancing Daily Exfoliator for Combination Skin
$8 for 5oz can often get it on sale and use coupons
Finer grain of exfoliant
Lathers
Pleasant perfume grapefruit scent, not a natural grapefruit scent
After daily use for a month my skin was dryer with less oil

Which to I prefer…Drum roll please!

Yes to Grapefruit Correct & Repair Daily Facial Scrub | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com
Yes to Grapefruit Correct & Repair Daily Facial Scrub

I have used the entire bottle of Yes to grapefruit daily facial scrub.  I love the scent of it and the way it makes my skin look and feel.  With daily consistent use, I feel like it did make a difference on my skin’s appearance and feel.

I would repurchase the Garnier Clean + Balancing Daily Exfoliator for Combination Skin.  I have enjoyed using it these last few weeks.  I feel like it is just not the right choice for my skin at this time of year.  I will try it again in the summer months and see if my skin reacts to it in a different way.

Let me know what other types of products you would like to see compared.

Mini Target Haul

If there is one thing I don’t need it is more makeup from Target.  If there is one thing I love to buy it is more makeup from Target.  Yesterday Target had a 25% off deal on beauty items.  I was already planning to pick up a few things, so I was pretty excited about the extra 25% off.

If you have been around Looking Joli Good for any amount of time, you know that I love the Maybelline Better Skin foundation.  The formula is awesome and the wear time is amazing. (click HERE to see my full review of it.)  I just need to point out that the difference is huge between the shades Porcelain 10 and Ivory 15!  Ivory is much to dark for my winter skin and even at my fairest, 10 is still way too light.  That is why I also picked up the NYC bronzer.  I have heard good things about it, so hopefully it will work out for me when I use them together.

Mini Target Haul | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

I already know that I love the Aussie 3 minute miracle as well as the biore deep pore charcoal cleanser. I am also repurchasing this elf duo eyeshadow.  It is a bit powdery, but I really like the way that the colors look on me.  Plus for 25% off, I couldn’t pass it up.

I am planning on doing some reviews on my recent hauls.  I know I personally like to see what people haul, but I also like to hear the review of the products after they have been used for a little while.

Hope you are having a wonderful day!

Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Gloss~ Limited Edition Peony Sheen 270 and Mirrored Plum 240

Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Gloss

I am a lipgloss lover!  I like my lips to be shiny, smooth, and slick but not sticky. That is exactly what these Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Glosses provide.  The shadesPeony Sheen 270 and Mirrored Plum 240 both have a slight sparkle to them without being overly glittery.  The  Mirrored Plum 240 shade looks more purple in the tube, but on the lips it comes off as more of a lavender. While the two shades that I have featured here are actually limited edition (sorry, not sure if they are still available 😦 ) there are several other beautiful shades to choose from, 12 shades to be exact.

What does the Maybelline Website have to say about the Color Sensational Lip Gloss:

SOPHISTICATED  shine
LUXURIOUS feel
12 captivating shades

Why You’ll Love It

Fall in love with color, all over again:
• Sophisticated color and shine from pure pigments
• Luxurious feel from nourishing honey nectar

Drugstore Haul

Drugstore Haul | lookingjoligood.wordpress.comIf you know me in real life, you know that if I am not at home, church, or at my kid’s school, most likely you can find me at Target!  I love that place!  They take all of my coupons, plus have cartwheel and mobile coupons. So, that being said, that is where I got all of these things.

I love Pantene!  It is my all time favorite shampoo/conditioner brand!  Even when I have used other higher end brand hair care I always end up coming back to Pantene.  I am interested to try out this new Ultimate 10 BB Creme Conditioner  and the Nature Fusion Moisturizing Shampoo with Melon Essence.

I have been enjoying the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation and wanted to try out the Fit Me Concealer.  Of course, I also had a coupon.

I love the YES to Grapefruit Daily Facial Scrub, so I am wondering if these facial wipes will be good.

I love Maybelline mascaras, and have heard so many great things about the Lash Sensational Mascara but I have never tried it.  I had a $2 off coupon, so I figured I would buy it and give it a try to see if it lives up to the recommendations.

Let’s face it, the EOS lip balm packaging is super cute!  I have tried the Strawberry one, and I have to admit I was less than impressed by it.  I was told that the vanilla mint one is different and better than the others.  So, I am giving this EOS Visibly Soft Vanilla Mint Lip Balm a try.

I still had some Garnier coupons left and decided to give The Soothing Remover Cleansing Towelettes for Sensitive Skin wipes a try.

I had a coupon for the Herbal Essences Happy Go Lather Body Wash and decided to give it a try.  It smells delightful.

If you are interested in seeing some other things I have recently purchased and have been trying out, check out my recent mini drugstore haul by clicking HERE
