Hello, BoxyCharm! November 2017 Box

boxy charm hello charmer! | lookingjoligood.blogIf you don’t know what Boxy charm is, it is a monthly subscription box that is $21/month/box and has 5 full-sized products.  What I have been enjoying about Boxycharm is that instead of sample sizes like some other subscription boxes/bags, it has full sized products.boxycharm | lookingjoligood.blogNovember’s theme is Sweater Weather.  I love that they include a card with the product’s info and pricing on it.Boxy Charm November 2017 Sweater Weather | lookingjoligood.blogOriginally, I was only planning on getting Boxy Charm for three months,  I have loved everything so much so far that I signed on for another three months… No one is surprised I’m sure.Boxy Charm November 2017 Sweater Weather | lookingjoligood.blogHere is what I got in my box this month: (I’m going to write about what I got in my box from my least to most favorite…)laqa & co Boxy Charm November 2017 Sweater Weather | lookingjoligood.blog

LAQ A & CO. Cloud Lips $17.00

Product Description: An airy matte lipstick that provides full coverage, but feels as light as a cloud. This highly-pigmented lipstick has a matte finish for a long-lasting fluffy, pouty lips that stay put. Surprisingly fluffy, Cloud Lips Airy Matte Lipstick delivers full coverage color for a pillow-soft pout. Available in 4 high-pigment shades, these lipsticks were formulated to last all day without feeling stiff thanks to avocado oil. 🐰 Cruelty Free

laqa & co Boxy Charm November 2017 Sweater Weather | lookingjoligood.blogThe packaging is absolutely beautiful! I have worn this lipstick a few times, and it is actually a decent lipstick, but … it definitely needs a lipliner, definitely stained my lips, definitely dried my lips out.  This isn’t a finish or shade that I would choose for myself. Not my favorite thing that I got in this box, but not terrible, I’m so picky when it comes to lip products though.  That brings me to the next item in the box…knc beauty Boxy Charm November 2017 Sweater Weather | lookingjoligood.blog

KNC Beauty Collagen Lip Mask $15.00

Product Description: Innovative jelly mask for your lips that hydrate moisturize and plump your pout with natural ingredients.

This lip mask was nothing like I expected it to be…It was thick pink slimy jelly.  It didn’t moisturize my lips at all, but instead made them feel completely numb…weird!  Would I pay $5 for one of these masks, nope, will I use the other two, of course, lol!Cover FX Boxy Charm November 2017 Sweater Weather | lookingjoligood.blog

Cover FX Illuminating Setting Spray 120 ml/4.0 fl oz $31.00

Product Description: A quick-drying setting spray that sets makeup for all-day wear and imparts instant, all-over illumination. It’s alcohol-free, so it’s not drying to the skin. Perfect for all skin tones and types.

I have worn this under and on top of my face makeup every day since I have gotten it. I really like the way it makes my foundation look!  It has a fine sparkle to it, not really glitter, but definitely sparkle, I guess that is where the Illumination comes from!

This setting spray has the best spray nozzle that I have ever used!  It is so fine and perfect that I can hardly even tell that it is spraying my face.  Unfortunately, after using it for a few weeks, it seems as if the sprayer has clogged with the sparkles and I cannot get it to spray anymore. Do I think that makes it worth $31? NO WAY!  Am I glad I received it in this box, absolutely!luxie brushes Boxy Charm November 2017 Sweater Weather | lookingjoligood.blog

Luxie Beauty Quad Eye Travel Set $32.00

Product Description: Take your game on the go with this quad travel set created with hand-crafted synthetic brushes.

I love Luxie brushes.  They are great quality and super soft.  These ones are travel size and perfect for my makeup bag I keep in my purse.winky lux Boxy Charm November 2017 Sweater Weather | lookingjoligood.blog

Winkylux Kitten Palette $25.00

Product Description: These ultra-soft shadows glide on like a dream. The universally flattering collection of shades makes this palette as lovable as a kitten. It features highly-pigmented shadows in four finishes: holographic, matte, satin, and glide.winky lux Boxy Charm November 2017 Sweater Weather | lookingjoligood.blogDo I need another eyeshadow palette, nope, do I want another eyeshadow palette, absolutely!  I have been wearing this every day since receiving it. I am especially in love with the 4th eyeshadow, (the first one from the left in the second row.)  Check out my IG post to see it in action!  LookingJoliGood

The shade selection is alike enough that they all coordinate nicely, yet different enough that I have been able to create several completely different eye looks. What I enjoy most about this palette is that it has everything you would need all in one place. Base/transition shades: check, deeper matte crease shades: check, shimmer lid shades: check, highlight/brow bone shades check.

30 Days of Giving Thanks! Day 24

November 24: I’m thankful for I’m thankful for Cary Schmit and the Emmanuel Baptist Church podcasts.

His year-long Sunday morning series on the gospel of Luke called Devoted has been just what I needed to hear! I especially loved the 3 podcasts from June about the Prodigal Sons in Luke 15:11-32 called “The Prodigal God”.

30 Days of Giving Thanks! Day 24

November 24: I’m thankful for the song Jesus, Thank You!

The mystery of the cross I cannot comprehend,
The agonies of Calvary.
You, the Perfect Holy One, crushed Your Son,
Drank the bitter cup reserved for me.
Your blood has washed away my sin,
Jesus, thank You.
The Father”s wrath completely satisfied,
Jesus, thank You.
Once Your enemy, now seated at Your table,
Jesus, thank You.

By Your perfect sacrifice I”ve been brought near,
Your enemy made Your friend.
Pouring out the riches of Your glorious grace,
Your mercy and your kindness know no end.

Your blood has washed away my sin,
Jesus, thank You.
The Father”s wrath completely satisfied,
Jesus, thank You.
Once Your enemy, now seated at Your table,
Jesus, thank You.

Delicious Recipes

Sweet Potato Casserole

I look forward to Thanksgiving dinner every year for one reason.  It is not the turkey or the mashed potatoes.  It isn’t even the pies and desserts, although those are great too.  The reason I look forward to Thanksgiving is this awesome Sweet Potato Casserole!  It is so delicious!!!

I have shared this the last few years, but it is my favorite thing to eat, so I am sharing it again today.  I’ll be dreaming about this all night!

sweet-potato-casserole | lookingjoligood.wordpress.comIngredients

  • 4 cups sweet potato, cubed
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Put sweet potatoes in a medium saucepan with water to cover. Cook over medium-high heat until tender; drain and mash. (or use canned yams and skip this step altogether.)
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the sweet potatoes, white sugar, eggs, cinnamon, salt, butter, milk and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth. Transfer to a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  3. In a medium bowl, mix the brown sugar and flour. Cut in the butter until the mixture is coarse. Stir in the pecans. Sprinkle the mixture over the sweet potato mixture.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven 30 minutes, or until the topping is lightly brown.

If you try it, please let me know!  I have a feeling that you will love it too!

November 22: I’m thankful for Trader Joe’s.

Here are just a few reasons
1) Speculoos ice cream and cookie butter: Um awesome, no explanation needed.
2) The people that work there wear Hawaiian shirts and are awesome and so friendly!
3)  They have little child-sized carts.  I can’t even stand how cute it is to see a little two or three-year-old helping by pushing around a little cart.
4) Awesome prices for great products.
5) Also these things…see below photos…Trader Joes Guacamole and sweet potato chips | lookingjoligood.blog

What’s Inside You?

The other day my sister shared this and, wow, is it ever so true!

You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere.

Why did you spill the coffee?
“Well because someone bumped into me, of course!”

spilled coffee | lookingjoligood.blog

Wrong answer.

You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup.

Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea.

*Whatever is inside the cup, is what will spill out.*

Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It’s easy to fake it until you get rattled.

*So we have to ask ourselves… “what’s in my cup?”
When life gets tough, what spills over?

Joy, gratefulness, peace, and humility?

Or anger, bitterness, harsh words, and reactions?

You choose!

Today let’s work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation; and kindness, gentleness, and love for others.

” A cup that is brimful of sweetness, no matter how strongly jarred, will never bring forth even a drop of bitterness” ~ Amy Carmichael

November 17: I’m thankful for answered prayer!

Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Review · Weekly Product Highlight

Dr. Brandt Skincare PoreDermabrasion Pore Perfecting Exfoliator

~Weekly Product Highlight~ Dr. Brandt Skincare PoreDermabrasion Pore Perfecting Exfoliator~

Dr Brandt Boxy Charm October 2017 Spellbound | lookingjoligood.blog

“Product Description: Pore-perfecting technology at your fingertips, with a professional-grade micro-crystal solution, that instantly deep-cleans and refines pores.”

A 2 oz tube of this exfoliator is $58 at Sephora as well as on the Dr. Brandt’s website

It is an unscented, medium thick, white cream with “professional-grade micro-crystals”

Over time I noticed that my pores were not only deeply cleaned, but also it made my pores look smaller.  For best results, I tended to use it in the shower. After wetting my face, I put a small pea sized amount all over my face. I wash and condition my hair, giving it a few minutes, to let the Pore Dermabrasion part do its thing.  I then rub it into my skin letting the sand-like micro-crystal exfoliators do their thing.

This exfoliator is completely different from the majority of exfoliators that I use.  The “micro-crystals” are small and sand-like.  While I exfoliate my face daily, I use this Pore Dermabrasion Exfoliator only once or twice a week. Although it is different from my other, more gentle, exfoliators, I find that when I want my skin to look fresh and clean, I used this product.

If you are someone with oily-to-combination skin types, concerned with large pores, this exfoliator is perfect for you!

About a year ago, I received a sample size of the Pore Dermabrasion in my ipsy bag.  I enjoyed it so much, once I finished it, I considered paying the $58 to buy the full size.  I’m glad that I waited because I received a full sized tube in the October Boxycharm box.  While I feel as if this product is definitely worth the $58 price tag, I was pretty excited to receive it along with 4 other items for only $21. (Just another reason to love Boxycharm.)
