Ditch The Diet for Healthy Habits

The Great Carb Controversy Part 2

 ~Ditch The Diet~

Always keep in mind, everyone’s body is different! We do not all have the same dietary requirements. Just because a diet low in carbs works for one person doesn’t mean that it is right for someone else.

Life isn’t a sprint it is a marathon. Personally, I choose long-term health over short-term results.

Not all carbs are created equal! While carbohydrates are an important part of your diet, that doesn’t mean that you can eat a bunch of processed foods like pasta, candy, cupcakes, chips, soda, and chocolate chip cookies.

There are two different types of carbs: simple and complex carbohydrates.

Complex carbs have a higher fiber content that makes the body work harder to digest them. They provide energy over a longer period of time.

These whole plant foods are great sources of complex carbohydrates:
• Green vegetables
• Whole grains and foods made from them, such as oatmeal, and whole-grain breads
• Starchy vegetables such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, and pumpkin
• Beans, lentils, and peas

Carb controversy | lookingjoligood.blog

Simple carbs are usually processed packaged foods that are higher in sugar and lower in fiber. These carbs tend to cause a spike in insulin production.

Some food sources of simple carbohydrates:
• Table sugar
• Brown sugar
• Corn syrup
• Honey
• Maple syrup
• Molasses
• Jams, jellies
• Fruit drinks and juices
• Soda
• Candy

The body and brain function best with an optimal level of glucose, and the best source is from complex carbohydrate foods.

How can you eat carbs and not gain weight?

It is ok to eat simple carbs every once in a while, but a diet full of simple carbohydrates like cookies, pasta, white rice, and white bread is what leads to weight gain and feeling yuck.

Make some simple changes from simple carbs to complex carbs. Eat brown rice instead of white rice. Have an orange or an apple instead of drinking a glass of processed juice. Eat a whole grain English muffin instead of a white English muffin. Instead of having chips try eating air popped popcorn. Make your pizza with a multigrain dough. Have plenty of your favorite veggies cut up and bagged for easy access and snacking. If you have a sugar craving eat a piece of fruit

Making simple changes from simple to complex carbs will help take the confusion out of eating carbs. Then when the weight is off and you are in maintenance you don’t even have to think about it anymore because you are already used to eating a healthy balanced diet.

The Great Carb Controversy Part 1

The GreatCarb ControversyPart 1 | lookingjoligood.blog

Let’s REALLY talk about carbs, yup I am going THERE

No other nutrient has caused so much confusion or controversy.

Keep in mind that what you do to lose the weight is what you will have to do to maintain it.

Let me say that again:

What you DO to LOSE the weight is what you will have to do to MAINTAIN it!

What you DO to LOSE the weight is what you will have to do to MAINTAIN it! | lookingjoligood.blog

This is why it is important to choose a healthy BALANCED diet that will help you to have LONG-TERM consistency in your health and nutrition.

While it seems as if completely cutting out carbs might be a quick way to lose weight fast, is it the best for your body?

We need a balanced diet to have optimal body functioning. Any diet that requires you to cut out an entire food group will not keep your body working at its best long term.

I am going to be completely honest, I don’t like extremely low-carb diets! I’m an active person, I love to do high-intensity exercises. I require a larger number of grams of carbs per day than someone that isn’t very active.

With a low/no carb diet, yes, the body will adapt. It will learn to break down other nutrients and use them as fuel for the brain. But this is what the body does in survival mode, it is not optimal. This is how the body reacts during times of starvation. This is the body’s last resort!

Sure, we can cut carbs temporarily if we need to lose weight quickly. But for most of us, keeping carbs too low for too long can have disastrous consequences.

Restricting your carb intake too drastically can lead to:
• decreased thyroid output
• increased cortisol output
• decreased testosterone
• impaired mood and cognitive function
• muscle catabolism
• suppressed immune function.

In other words: Your metabolism might slow, your stress hormones go up and your muscle-building hormones go down.

A truly balanced diet is one that will give your body all the nutrition it needs to function properly. Balanced nutrition comes from a diet of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins.

While it is great to see results on the scale, what is going on inside the body is more important. | lookingjoligood.blog

Ditch The Diet for Healthy Habits

The Size of Your Heart and The Size of Your Pants

ditch the diet | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

 ~Ditch The Diet~

I truly believe that God wants us to feel and be at our physical best! Although, this isn’t His primary concern, he can use us no matter what our health or physical condition.
2 Corinthians 12:10 “Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.”
His main concern is with our spiritual well-being and ability to glorify Him.
Body size, shape, and weight, and outward appearance are over-emphasized in our society. These things are often the focus of our thoughts and energy at the expense of our inward character.
I Samuel 16:7for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”
God looks on the heart | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com
God is less concerned with the size of our pants and more concerned with the size of our hearts. He wants us to desire to please Him. He is less concerned with how long we live on this earth but is more concerned with how prepared we are for our eternal life.

God wants our hearts.

God wants your heart | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com
In 1 Corinthians 6:19–20, Paul tells us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. In that case, we should take care of our bodies and keep them as healthy as we possibly can.
Knowing that unhealthy eating habits can lead to multiple health problems, including back and knee pain, cardiovascular complications, kidney issues and diabetes, we should make healthy choices regarding our food, drink, and exercise.
Jesus teaches to seek a balance between the physical and the spiritual. “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4.
A strong, healthy body helps us better serve God, in the end bringing glory and honor to Him.
God truly wants us to keep our focus on Him. He gave us our body to be used to bring glory to him, not for us to be obsessing about weight gain, weight loss, or food and drink.
If we are not careful these things can easily become idols in our lives.

Clean and Clear Deep Action 60 Second Shower Mask

~Weekly Product Highlight~

It was recently my birthday, (Happy birthday to me!)  and since it was my birthday, I ate a lot of junk! Like, a lot of junk…!

Due to eating more sugar, candy, and junk than usual, my skin has been a mess! When my breakouts are typically along my jawline when they are sugar related. I hate having skin issues from sugar!

Anyway, long story short, I used this Clean and Clear Deep Action 60 second shower mask every day for about a week and my skin started looking awesome again in no time!

I have normal to combo skin, and I can use this mask in the shower every day without any issues or irritation.

When first applied it feels great! There is a wonderful tingling sensation.  It’s probably all in my head, but because of the sensation, I can feel it working deep down in my pores!

Only a small amount of the mask is needed.  Less than a dime size is more than enough to apply over my entire face.  After applying the mask all over my face I let it sit on my face while I wash my hair and body.  I love that I can to more than one thing at a time and not waste time waiting for the mask to work. After I finish washing up, I gently massage my face with the exfoliating beads and then rinse it all off.  My face feels soft and smooth and cool from the menthol.

When I first started using this I thought that one thing I would change would be that it had more exfoliating beads in it.  Although, since it is for daily use, it is probably better that it has fewer and is a gentler exfoliator.

Just to warn you, this product has alpha hydroxy acid in it which can increase sensitivity to the sun.  If you are fair skinned like me and burn in the sun, you will want to be extra careful!  Personally, I have found that sunscreen doesn’t even help when I have used a product with AHA in it.  If I know that I am going to be spending time in the sun in the future, I will usually stop using a product with AHA in it two weeks in advance.

The 1 oz tube samples lasted me about 2 weeks, and a 5 oz bottle lasts me about 2 months of everyday use.

A 5 oz bottle of this Clean and Clear Deep Action 60 second shower mask costs around $5. (worth every penny in my opinion.)

I have used two 1 oz samples and an entire full sized bottle.  I have also already purchased a second full-size bottle, so obviously, I really like this stuff!
