Never Underestimate the Big Importance of Doing Small Things!

A few years ago, I was going through a challenging time in my life. I felt overwhelmed by the weight of my responsibilities and the uncertainty of the future. It was during this period that a simple act of kindness from one of my patients left a lasting impression on me.

One particularly tough week, as I was preparing for my next patient assignment, lost in my thoughts, a cancer patient I had taken care of often who was being cared for by another nurse that day and handed me a small, handwritten note. The note read, “You are stronger than you think, and your kindness matters more than you will ever know.” Those words of encouragement meant more to me that day than she will ever realize.

At that moment, it felt like a ray of sunshine breaking through the clouds. It was a small thing, a mere piece of paper with a few words, but it had a profound effect on my outlook. It reminded me that there was goodness in the world, that even a patient dying of cancer could offer a dose of hope when it was needed the most.

I carried that note with me for a long time, stuck onto my locker door. Whenever I faced a tough day or felt my resolve waver, I would take a look at it and read those words again. It became a source of strength, a reminder that even the smallest acts of kindness can have a significant impact on someone’s life.

This experience taught me that we all have the power to make a positive difference in the lives of others through small, thoughtful gestures. It’s not always about grandiose deeds or extravagant displays of generosity; sometimes, it’s the little things, like a kind word or a sincere smile, that can brighten someone’s day or provide the support they need.

In my own life, I’ve tried to pay it respect to that patient’s memory by embracing the idea that small things matter. Whether it’s a handwritten note of encouragement, offering a listening ear to a friend in distress, smiling at a stranger, or simply being present for someone during a difficult time, I’ve come to understand the profound impact these small actions can have.

“Never underestimate the big importance of doing small things,” They remind me of the power of kindness, empathy, and the little gestures that can make the world a better place—one small act at a time.

Reckless Love by Cory Asbury

Before I spoke a word, You were singing over me
You have been so, so good to me
Before I took a breath, You breathed Your life in me
You have been so, so kind to me

Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God
Oh, it chases me down, fights ‘til I’m found, leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn’t earn it, I don’t deserve it, still, You give Yourself away
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God

I couldn’t earn it, I don’t deserve it, still, You give Yourself away

When I was Your foe, still Your love fought for me
You have been so, so good to me
When I felt no worth, You paid it all for me
You have been so, so kind to me Bridge

There’s no shadow You won’t light up
Mountain You won’t climb up
Coming after me
There’s no wall You won’t kick down
Lie You won’t tear down
Coming after me

Thy Will by Hillary Scott

I love the word to the song The Will by Hillary Scott! One of my favorite lines is “It’s hard to count it all joy distracted by the noise

Too often I let the noise of what is happening around me take away my joy.

Thy Will by Hillary Scott

I’m so confused
I know I heard you loud and clear
So I’ll follow through
Somehow I ended up here

I don’t wanna think
I may never understand
That my broken heart is a part of your plan
When I try to pray
All I got is hurt
And these four words
Thy will be done
Thy will be done
Thy will be done

I know you’re good
But this don’t feel good right now
And I know you think
Of things I could never think about

It’s hard to count it all joy
Distracted by the noise
Just trying to make sense of all your promises
Sometimes I gotta stop
Remember that you’re God
And I am not

Love Them Anyway!

And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

Anyway by Brandon Holt

God is so good
God is so good
God is so good
He’s so good to me

You can spend your whole life building
Something from nothing
And one storm can come
And blow it all away
Build it anyway

You can chase a dream that seems
So out of reach
And you know it might not ever
Come your way
Dream it anyway

God is great, but sometimes life ain’t good
When I pray it doesn’t always turn out like I think it should
I do it anyway

This world has gone crazy
And it’s hard to believe
But tomorrow we’ll be better
Than today
Believe it anyway

And you can love someone with all your heart
For all the right reasons
And in a moment they can choose to walk away
Love them anyway

For God is great
But sometimes life ain’t good
And when I pray it doesn’t always turn out like I think it should
But I do it anyway
I do it anyway

You can pour your soul out singing
A song you believe in
And tomorrow they’ll forget you ever sang
Sing it anyway
Sing it anyway

I sing, I dream, I love, I love anyway
I sing, I dream, I love, I love anyway
I do it anyway
I do it anyway

The Blessing of the Storm

The other day was a hot humid summer day. As I was out in my yard in the evening, I noticed the flowers in my garden were all wilting from the heat.

That night as it started to rain, I listened to the thunder and watched the lightning, it made me think… Sometimes the storm turns out to really be a blessing. It cooled off the air and brought the rain my flower beds needed.

Sometimes in life, it takes storms to bring special blessings too. When everything goes the way we’d like, we often forget how much we need Jesus. But when we go through difficult times, we learn more about Him and about how much He loves and cares for us. No matter how fierce the storm seems, He loves and cares for us more than you can even imagine.

I don’t like the “storms” in my life. I don’t like to be unhappy or uncomfortable or disappointed. During those times, I need to learn to stop questioning why God sends storms into my life, and just trust Him to be with me and see me through them. (Proverbs 3:5-7)

Having faith in Jesus and trusting Him will give us the strength to brave any storm that comes our way. Then just like my flower beds, after the storm has passed, we’ll be refreshed.

Heavenly Father, help me to search for you in the storm.  Guide me with your strength. May I search for the blessings among the pain.

James 1:2-3

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

Psalms 46:1‭-‬3

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

Proverbs 3:5‭-‬7

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord , and depart from evil.

No Need To Be Afraid

See Beauty and Speak It!

Mark Twain said, “I can live for two months on a good compliment.”

How true is that statement?!  A sincere compliment can go such a long way!

if you see beautyspeakit.png

A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!
Proverbs 15:23

Have you ever heard of The Five Love Languages*? Without going into great detail, the theory is that there are 5 different ways that most people feel loved: words of affirmation, physical touch, acts of service, quality time and gift giving.

Hands down, no doubt about it, my “love language” is words of affirmation.  For me, a sincere compliment goes much further than a gift or hug or time spent together.  Knowing that I am appreciated gives me life.

Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.
Proverbs 12:25

Due to words of affirmation being the way I feel loved, it is also the way I show love.  In turn, I am a naturally complimentary person. If I appreciate something I always say it! Some people have a harder time giving compliments, but I encourage you: “If you see something beautiful in someone, speak it!”

Don’t ever hold back from giving someone a compliment!
You may never know the full impact of your words.

Something as simple as complimenting someone’s smile, hair, outfit, or their perfume, can really make someone’s day.  It is amazing how just mentioning something positive about someone can really be an encouragement.

Even more important are the compliments that have nothing to do with the way a person looks. Compliments about someone’s character are such a source of ongoing encouragement:

“You are a great listener”

“Thank you for being such a hard worker.”

“You have great time management skills.”

“I appreciate the way you stood up for yourself!”

“Thank you for being someone that I can count on.”

“Your friendship is important to me.”

“I am thankful for your kind heart.”

“You always being on time means a lot to me!”

Think about the last compliment you received and how it made you feel.  Now, look for the beauty in the people around you and speak it.  You might just be surprised at how much better you both end up feeling.
