Tip Tuesday #84

Here’s another tip for Tip Tuesday:

Tip Tuesday Make up tips and tricks every Tuesday | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Today’s tip is about how to get the most out of your false lashes:

  1. Start by curling your natural lashes and applying one coat of mascara so your lashes can support the weight of your falsies.
  2. Next, cut the lash band to the size of your lash line.
  3. Apply a thin layer of lash glue and wait for it to dry.
  4. Finally, start by applying the lashes on the outer corner, first moving to the inner corner, hugging the lash line tight.

Hello, BoxyCharm! September 2017 Box

boxy charm hello charmer! | lookingjoligood.blog

I’m so happy that I made a switch from ipsy to Boxy charm!  The boxes are more expensive, ($21/month/box instead of $10/ month/bag) but Boxy Charm has 5 full-sized products instead of 5 sample sized.
This month’s box contains 6 products, 5 full sized and one deluxe sample sized.

Here is what I got in my second box:boxy charm | lookingjoligood.blog
(I’m going to write about what I got in my box from my least to most favorite…)
colourpop boxy charm | lookingjoligood.blogULTRA SATIN LIP by Colourpop $6.00

High pigmentation and a satin-matte finish in liquid lipstick form to keep your lips soft and comfy all day long.
#BoxyTip: Start with freshly exfoliated lips to achieve the smoothest application! Then, line your lips with a matching pencil; this will help you achieve the perfect finished look and give the appearance of fuller lips. Next, apply your Ultra Satin Lip in a thin layer for most comfortable wear.colourpop boxy charm | lookingjoligood.blogI was really excited to try out this shade is beautiful, and out of the 4 shades being offered, it is probably the shade that I would have picked out for myself if given the choice. That being said… it goes on beautifully and feels comfortable on the lips, but it does not wear off gracefully!  Instead of looking like a pink nude with purple undertones,  it looks like a bright magenta.  It went from being super cute to scary!  I tried to wipe it off without any luck.  My lips were stained this bright fuchsia color from almost 2 days.colourpop boxy charm | lookingjoligood.blog

mac brow pencil boxy charm | lookingjoligood.blogMAC Cosmetics Eyebrow Pencil (in the shades spiked or lingering) $18.00

Self-propelling, self-sharpening, and brow-defining. This pencil will add everything you need: shape, colour and/or density in one streamlined tool. Like a pen, it creates its own just-right point for striking arches. It’s also the perfect pencil to take on the go- no sharpener needed!
#BoxyTip: Apply to brows to fill in, define and colour.

If I were a person that uses brow pencils I might be excited about this product…I don’t use brow pencils, so I’m not impressed.  I’ll probably give it to someone else who will enjoy it.  Also, come on MAC , $18.00 and no spoolie, seriously?
bareminerals foundation brush boxy charm | lookingjoligood.blogFACE PERFECTING BRUSH by bareMinerals $28.00

This patented makeup brush lets you adjust your foundation coverage by the drop for a perfectly seamless foundation application.
#BoxyTip: Apply your favorite foundation into the fluid reservoir of the brush. Bu the foundation onto your skin in a swirling, circular motion, starting on the outside of your face near your cheekbones, working your way to the forehead, cheeks, and nose.

I generally apply my foundation with a beauty sponge, so I wasn’t overly excited to receive this brush. Turns out though the more I use this brush the more I like it.  It is super soft and densely packed. It has a little indentation in the center for placing the product in.  At first, I didn’t really like this, but I have found that if I press a bit harder it gets the job done nicely.  I still finish off my application with a damp beauty sponge, but that is just because personally, I prefer a more natural foundation application

Briogeo Don't Despair Repair boxy charm | lookingjoligood.blogBriogeo Don’t Despair Repair 2 oz (Delux sample size) $20.00

Full Size is 8 oz and costs $36.00

A restorative and hydrating conditioner to replenish moisture, repair damage, and protect against future breakage and color fade.  This conditioner is infused with Briogeo’s signature blend of ultra-nourishing rosehip, argan, and coconut oils to effectively restore the silky sheen to dry, brittle, lackluster locks. Coconut oil penetrates the hair shaft to nourish and repair from the inside out, sealing the uplifted cuticle to help lock in moisture and reduce environmental impurities. Argan oil provides extensive conditioning to restore luster and diminish frizz, while the antioxidant-rich rosehip oil helps shield strands from UV and free-radical damage.

StudioMakeup blush Boxycharm | lookingjoligood.blogStudio Makeup Luminous Loose Blush $35.00

This lightweight blush provides a vibrant pop of color for the most natural, healthy look.
#BoxyTip: Place desired amount of product into the cap of the item, ensuring that you don’t use too much powder. Lightly dip your brush into the cap to pick up just enough blush, and apply to the apples of your cheeks. Continue applying for until you reach the desired look.
IL: Mica. May contain: Carmine (CI 75470), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Ultramarines (CI 77007), Ferric Ferrocyanide (CI 77510).

I love blush!  I feel as if you can easily transform your face from looking tired and pale to looking bright and refreshed just by applying a bit of blush.  I really like this blush, it is a great coral color that’ll be flattering on most skin tones.  This container holds 7g/0.24 oz of loose blush, that is going to last for a really long time!  That being said, I’d never pay $35 for any blush, even one that will last forever.

Pur Soiree Diaries Palette Boxycharm | lookingjoligood.blogPUR Cosmetics Soiree Diaries Eyeshadow Palette – Value $34

This essential palette is filled with highly pigmented and silky smooth shadows.
#BoxyTip: Use the colors in the vertical rows, from top to bottom, to add highlight, definition, and drama.

Pur Soiree Diaries Palette Boxycharm | lookingjoligood.blog

Up until now, I had never swatched or used any eyeshadows from Pur Cosmetics, so I didn’t know what to expect. Wow, this palette really surprised me!

The shadows are so soft, smooth and velvetey.  These shades are my jam!  I love the selection of transition shades, defining shades and those sparkling shimmer shades are what makes me love makeup so much!  I have been wearing this palette every day since I recieved it and I am in love!

Today’s tip is about how to get the most out of your face makeup!

Wet n Wild setting spray | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

After I apply my primer, foundation and setting powder, I apply a few sprays of setting spray.  While applying setting spray is a great tip, that isn’t this week’s tip.  Before my setting spray is dry, I take my beauty sponge and press the setting spray into my face.  Not only does this extend the length of my makeup, but it also takes away any of the powderiness, giving the face a more natural look.

Tip Tuesday #82

Here’s another tip for Tip Tuesday:

Tip Tuesday Make up tips and tricks every Tuesday | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Today’s tip is about how to get the best foundation application!

  1. Clean and tone your skin.  A great base starts with prepped skin.
  2. Moisturize your face. Give the moisturizer time to sink into the skin.
  3. Prime your face.  Choose your primer based on what you want it to do.
  4. Apply a small amount of foundation to start.  It is better to need to apply more to increase coverage than to have too much on right from the start.
  5. Apply a fine layer of loose setting powder to the entire face concentrating on problem areas of your face.
  6. Lightly spray your face with a setting spray.
Coty Airspun Powder
Yup, it smells like your grandmother, but it’s been around since 1935 for a reason!

Hello, BoxyCharm! August 2017 Box

boxy charm | lookingjoligood.blog

As you may recall, I subscribed to Ipsy for over two years.  (How could you not recall since I wrote about my glam bags every month 😉)  I really looked forward to trying out the samples and loved getting my pink shiny envelope in the mail each month.

After a lot of going back and forth, I decided that I wanted to move on to something different.  And boxy charm it is!

Here is what I got in my first box:

wp-image-1706891474

(I’m going to write about what I got in my box from my least to most favorite…)

wp-image-1868149355

Waterproof Gel Eyeliner by Bellapierre $15.00

Creamy, waterproof eyeliner for true definition that lasts all day. The liner glides on smoothly, and is formulated with pure minerals, natural waxes, and antioxidants-making them hypoallergenic and safe for all skin types.

You know how I feel about receiving black eyeliners in these boxes…That being said, this liner is just ok.  Kinda stiff and waxy instead of smooth and creamy.  At $15, that is a huge no thanks from me.

boxy charm aloette | lookingjoligood.blog

Face Paint by Aloette $35.00

Aloette’s Face Paint point is enriched with Jojoba esthers, vitamin E, and other essential oils that will heal and nourish the skin while providing long-lasting, dewy color to the cheeks and lips.

boxy charm aloette | lookingjoligood.blog

This is a really beautiful shade, but I’ve never really enjoyed cream blush products.  Probably because I am just not good at applying them…I’ve worn it on my lips a few times, but don’t really love the shade on my lips.  I may pass it along to someone else who might use it.

boxy charm pur lashes | lookingjoligood.blog

Pro Eyelashes by PÜR The Complexion Authority $14.00

PÜR’s 3D lashes are handcrafted with the finest luxury silk to provide ultra-lightweight, natural-looking, fuller lashes. These cruelty-free lashes are durable, reusable, and safe for contact wearers.

These lashes are beautiful.  Personally, I don’t ever wear false lashes, and I don’t own any lash glue…so I can’t actually apply these.  But none the less, they are gorgeous.

boxy charm tarte rainforest of the sea | lookingjoligood.blog

boxy charm tarte rainforest of the sea | lookingjoligood.blog

Rainforest Of The Sea: Volume II by Tarte $36.00

Crease-free eyeshadow palette with the best-selling creamy powder formula in eight, cool-toned shades.

boxy charm tarte rainforest of the sea | lookingjoligood.blog

While these shadows are gorgeous, they are definitely not for a beginner.  They have a strange creamy texture.  While perfect for the lid, they don’t really blend well in the crease. I have found that applying each shade using my fingertips makes the shadows apply much better.  The golden shade is gorgeous as an over the entire lid shade.

boxy charm moda brush set | lookingjoligood.blog

MODA Pro 3-Piece Brush Set by Royal & Langnickel $26.00

This MODA Pro 3-piece brush set, features a pointed blush, chisel blender, and a crease brush. These brushes will achieve endless looks and can be used with both wet and dry products.

I have used these brushes every day since receiving them. I’ve been using the largest one to apply bronzer and powder. With a unique curve design, this flat dense brush can be used to apply highlight, but I have been using it to contour my cheekbones. The thin one is my new favorite crease brush.  It is so soft and versatile.

For now, I am only planning on getting Boxy Charm for three months.  We’ll see how things go because the first box I got is awesome, I may be wanting to continue my subscription past the three months.

Today’s tip is about how to get a better hold out of your bobby hair pinsbobby pins | lookingjoligood.blog

For a better hold from your bobby hair pins, before applying them to your hair, spray them with hairspray or dry shampoo.  The extra stick will give them a better grip and a longer lasting hold.

Today’s tip is about how to get the most out of your mascara and make your lashes look fuller.

Neutrogena Healthy Volume Mascara | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

1. Prevent clumps by wiping off excess mascara!  You want to be able to control the amount of product that you apply.  Start off with less and add more.

2. Slowly wiggle the mascara wand along the base of your lashes before moving to the ends. (You may remember this tip from a few weeks ago.)

3. After the first coat, wait about 30 seconds or so, then apply loose powder to the lashes with an eyeshadow brush.  (Be careful not to get any into your eyes.)

4. Finish with a second coat of mascara add volume to your lashes.

Today’s tip is about how to make your brushes last longer:

elf brushes | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

1. Keep it clean! Wash your brushes well at least once a week.

2. Just like your hair, your brushes need a little extra love, too! After you wash your brushes, condition the bristles with a few drops of olive or coconut oil.

3. Place your brushes upside down to dry. This will keep them fluffy. (Click HERE for a whole post I wrote about drying your brushes)

drying brushes | lookingjoligood.blog

4. Store your brushes vertically to prevent the bristles from getting harmed.

Tip Tuesday #78: Add An Extra Glowy Boost To Your Skin

Here’s another tip for Tip Tuesday:

Tip Tuesday Make up tips and tricks every Tuesday | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Today’s tip is about how to add an extra boost of glow to your skin.

For an extra boost of hydration to your skin making it more glowy, to your moisturizer add two drops of your favorite facial oil, my favorite is the Tarte Maracuja Oil, $48 for 1.7 oz.  Also, don’t forget to always smooth in moisturizer in upward strokes and remember to apply moisturizer to your neck and chest! I recommended the Cerave moisturizing cream.

This week’s tip will help you to hide any discoloration on your eyelids while also making your shadows stay in place all day

concealers | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Prime your lids with a small amount of concealer and set it with a finely milled setting powder before applying your eyeshadow. It will hide any discoloration on your lids, while also making your shadows look more opaque.  Added bonus, it will also keep your shadows in place all day.
