The trick is to make eyes look big and bold is to create depth with your eyeshadow. You can do this by first applying a lighter colored shadow all over your eyelid. Next using  a darker shade  apply it in the crease of your eye above your lid. This will give dimension and depth to the eyes. Don’t forget to blend blend blend!  Blending the lid color with the crease color will create a beautifully seamless look.

This week’s tip is to use coconut oil as a makeup remover

I have mentioned before that I have to wear waterproof mascara if I want my lashes to stay curled.  Since it is waterproof most regular cleanser will not remove my mascara.  I like to remove every single little bit of my makeup every night, so I needed to figure out a way to get all my waterproof mascara off.  That is when I discovered coconut oil as a makeup remover.

Trader Joe's coconut-oil | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Coconut oil is great for so many things, but one of my favorite things to use it for is a natural makeup remover.  A small amount goes a very long way, so a jar or bottle will last a long time!

I start with my eyes since it takes a little while for the oil to breakdown the mascara. I use take one pump of fractionated coconut oil or one tiny scoop of organic unrefined coconut oil.  I rub it gently on my eyes in a circular motion.  I let that settle in while I remove the rest of the make up from my face.

To remove the rest of the rest of my face makeup, I gently rub coconut oil in a circular motion all over my face. I wash it all off with a warm wet wash cloth*.

*You don’t want to let the coconut oil filled water that you rinse off your face with go down the drain.  Over time it will harden and clog up your pipes.  Pretty gross!

If you have been around Looking Joli Good for any amount of time, you know that I love long lashes!  I never wear false lashes, mostly because the thought of putting glue next to my eyes makes me feel grossed out.

While there are so many great lash-pumping mascaras on the market, you don’t need to spend a ton of money on one of them. Instead, after applying your first coat of mascara quickly dust some translucent powder onto your lashes. Apply a second coat of mascara over the powder and be amazed at how full your lashes look!

I don’t know about you, but I think that liquid liner is one of the hardest products to master.

My tip for this week will help you apply liquid liner evenly on both eyes like a pro.  Before applying black liquid eye liner, first use a taupe or lighter colored eyeliner pencil to lightly trace a practice line just above your upper lash line.  Make sure the lines are even, then apply the liquid liner directly on top of the practice lines.  No one will ever know that you practiced with taupe, and you will have a perfect eye look every time!

I love this taupe liner from Wet N Wild and for only $.99 you can’t beat the price!

This weeks tip is for using an eyeshadow stick…

Because you can skip the brushes, eye shadow sticks can be one of the easiest and quickest ways to do your eye makeup. They may seem a bit intense at first, especially since they usually dry quickly but with a bit of practice you can save a ton of time while looking amazing.

Blending quickly using just your finger tips use a darker shade starting at the lash line working your way up to the lid.  Layer on more where needed for more saturation.  Use a light shade at the brow bone. Sweep lightly along the lower lash line to create a smokey eye look.

You can also use a shadow stick as an eye primer to add depth to your shadow.

If you want to make the whites of your eyes look extra bright and pop, instead of lining your eyes with black or brown, use a navy blue or deep plum eyeliner.  Just as a blue toned lipsticks will make you teeth look whiter, a navy or blue toned eyeliner will have the same effect on the whites of your eyes.

Two of my favorites are Marcelle Waterproof Eyeliner in Mulberry  or Indigo for $12 each or the INFALLIBLE Silkissime Eyeliner in plum $8.99.

Here is another tip to help you to get what you want out of your trip to the hair stylist…

Last week’s tip: Be realistic about what you are asking for and how it is going to look on you.  Take into consideration your hair’s type, tone, and texture, as well as your face’s shape.

During in Nursing School when I was living in the dorms to make extra money I gave a lot of hair cuts.  Over those years I got a lot of practice figuring out what type of style they wanted and what would look good on them.

This weeks tip…

Bring a lot of pictures with you! You can never bring too many pictures.  Bring pictures of both what you do want, as well as what you DON’T want.  Sometimes the pictures of what you don’t want are more helpful that the ones of what you do want.

A picture is worth a thousand words, so start looking for both what you do and don’t want and bring them along with you!

I totally wish that Pinterest had been around back when I used to do all those hair cuts!

Let me know if you try it out and what you think.

Here is a tip to help you to get what you want out of your trip to the hair stylist…

First of all, be realistic about what you are asking for and how it is going to look on you.

Sometimes we look at a picture of a celebrity and think that we want to have the same style that they have.  Sometimes we forget to take into consideration what our own hair’s type, tone, and texture is.  Also think about the shape of your own face as opposed to the face of the celeb that you might want to look like.

Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez have heart shaped faces, so if you have a round or square shaped face, you won’t look as good with the same haircut that looks best on the two of them.

hair styles for faces shape | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Although, if you have a heart shaped face like Taylor, consider a layered cut with lots of volume and a side part.

If you have a round face like Sarah Hyland or Jennifer Lawrence your best bet is to tone down the volume.  You don’t want to make your round face look wider than it is long. Wearing your hair with a deep side part will help slim your super-symmetrical face.

Maybe you are like me and have an oval face.  Lucky for us, we have the most adaptable face shape when it comes to choosing a hair style. Pretty much any length, cut, or part will work.

Maybe your face is square shaped like Olivia Wilde or Lucy Liu.  Soft curls, long layers, as well as shorter in the back longer in the front hair styles are best for you.

Of course, you can wear your hair whichever way makes you feel most beautiful.  But if you are looking for a change, these are some good tips to follow.
