Becca-anne Beauty’s questions for me:

  1. How long have you been blogging for? I have been blogging for 3 months, it seems as if it has been a lot longer.
  2. Why do you blog?  I blog because I feel like it is a fun way to be creative.
  3. What would you consider to be your biggest achievement?  My biggest achieved is the one thing that I have really wanted to do and that is become a wife and mother. But good marriages and good mothers don’t happen accidentally, so it is something that I have to work at every day.
  4. What is you dream job?  I actually just stared my dream job and I LOVE it!  I am a Registered Nurse and just started working in an Out Patient Infusion Unit.  We give chemo and blood and IV medications.  It is such a great job and I love all the gals that I work with.
  5. What is your favourite perfume?  I am very “scent-sitive” meaning I can’t really wear a lot of perfume without getting headaches.  I do love the smell of Pleasures from Estee Lauder I actually wore it for years and suffered through the headaches it gave me.
  6. Your current go-to product.  Hmmm, I think I would have to say my cake flavored Chapstick.  It is so simple, yet I cannot live without it.
  7. Where is your favourite place to be and why? I love to be at home with my family
  8. A current song that you are loving.  I love music and I love to sing, not sure if those listening to me are enjoying themselves, haha. Rather Be by Clean Bandit, I could listen to this song on repeat over and over…and over.  I love Jess Glynne’s voice.  I also love her song Right Here.  So lovely!
  9. Summer or winter?  No question, Summer!!!! I HATE winter!
  10. What are you looking forward to this season? I am looking forward to gaining an extra hour of sleep when we turn the clocks back for Day Light Savings.
  11. What will you be doing for christmas this year?  We spend Christmas with family every year.  I love Christmas even more now that I have kids to enjoy it with.

My questions for the bloggers:

  1. What makeup tools do you use on a daily basis?
  2. Where would you like to travel to if you had an endless amount of time and money?
  3. Even if you don’t post daily, do you write/research for your blog everyday?
  4. What is the number one best makeup purchase you have ever made and why?
  5. Favorite TV show?
  6. What was your very first job?
  7. Do you a save or a splurge?
  8. Sweet or Salty? Coffee or tea?
  9. What do you use to remove eye makeup and mascara?
  10. Who is your favorite beauty blog and  YouTube beauty Guru? (I am always looking for new people to follow and watch)
  11. Lipstick, Gloss, Lip Stain, Balm, or Lip Liner?

Drugstore Haul

Drugstore Haul | lookingjoligood.wordpress.comIf you know me in real life, you know that if I am not at home, church, or at my kid’s school, most likely you can find me at Target!  I love that place!  They take all of my coupons, plus have cartwheel and mobile coupons. So, that being said, that is where I got all of these things.

I love Pantene!  It is my all time favorite shampoo/conditioner brand!  Even when I have used other higher end brand hair care I always end up coming back to Pantene.  I am interested to try out this new Ultimate 10 BB Creme Conditioner  and the Nature Fusion Moisturizing Shampoo with Melon Essence.

I have been enjoying the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation and wanted to try out the Fit Me Concealer.  Of course, I also had a coupon.

I love the YES to Grapefruit Daily Facial Scrub, so I am wondering if these facial wipes will be good.

I love Maybelline mascaras, and have heard so many great things about the Lash Sensational Mascara but I have never tried it.  I had a $2 off coupon, so I figured I would buy it and give it a try to see if it lives up to the recommendations.

Let’s face it, the EOS lip balm packaging is super cute!  I have tried the Strawberry one, and I have to admit I was less than impressed by it.  I was told that the vanilla mint one is different and better than the others.  So, I am giving this EOS Visibly Soft Vanilla Mint Lip Balm a try.

I still had some Garnier coupons left and decided to give The Soothing Remover Cleansing Towelettes for Sensitive Skin wipes a try.

I had a coupon for the Herbal Essences Happy Go Lather Body Wash and decided to give it a try.  It smells delightful.

If you are interested in seeing some other things I have recently purchased and have been trying out, check out my recent mini drugstore haul by clicking HERE

~Weekly Product Highlight~ Bronzer ~Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Waterproof Bronzer in Park Ave Princess~

Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Waterproof Bronzer in Park Ave Princess

Tarte's Amazonian Clay Waterproof Bronzer in Park Ave Princess | lookingjoligood.wordpress.comWhile I often try to give recommendations for affordable drugstore products, this is one that I just have to recommend a high end product for… Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Waterproof Bronzer in Park Ave Princess is the best bronzer I have ever used!  None of the other bronzers I have tried have even come close to this one!  This shade works great for most skin tones. It is subtle enough to give a natural looking sun kissed glow and is not overly dark or muddy looking. Sometimes I will even use it as an eyeshadow, it is perfect in the crease. It is also very long lasting, buildable, and little bit goes a long way.

At $30.00 for 0.32 oz this bronzer is not cheap, but it is so good that it is definitely worth the price.  I highly recommend this bronzer!

What does the Tarte Website have to say about this bronzer?…
“Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Waterproof Bronzer is tarte’s best-selling bronzing powder in the iconic park ave princess™ shade.
Product Performance: Want to create that perfect seamless, sunkissed radiance? It’s now easier than ever to bronze & glow™ with tarte’s best-selling, multi-tasking bronzer formulated to blend and build your perfect level of uniform bronze. Available in tarte’s signature park ave princess™ radiant bronze shade, the waterproof formula adds instant warmth and dimension across a variety of skin tones as Amazonian clay helps improve overall skin clarity, texture and tone for an overall lit from within complexion.

Mini Drugstore Haul

Remember those Maybelline and Garnier coupons I posted at the end of August? Well, I finally used them (and a few others) and picked up a few things at the drugstore today.

As you may remember, I love the Maybelline SuperstayBetter Skin Foundation.  During the summer I was a wearing the shade 20, but now that the fall/winter is coming I need a lighter shade so I picked up 15, the next shade down.  I love that this foundation has a pump!

Do you keep tabs on recommendations from other beauty “gurus”?  I have heard so many great things about the Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless foundation, so I wanted to try it out for myself.  I bought the shade 115.  I’ll let you know how I like it.

The Maybelline Great Lash mascara is basically like the most iconic of all mascaras.  As much as I love mascara, surprisingly, I have never tried this one.  I am looking forward to seeing what I think and if lives up to the hype.

I have been using Yes to Grapefruit Daily Facial Scrub for about a month or so now, and I do really like it.  I figured I would try out the Garnier Grapefruit version and see how it compares.

The Simple MicellarWater and Aussie 3 Minute Miracle are both product that I have heard so many YouTubers talk about.  I figured that since I had a $2 off coupon for both of them, it was definitely worth giving them a try.

As for the Suave lotion, I have been using it for years and know that it is something that I love and will repurchase over and over again.  Not to heavy or greasy, not to overly scented.

~Weekly Product Highlight~ Highlighters~ Reserve Your Cabana~

Highlight on fleek?

Wet n Wild Color Icon Collection Bronzer SPF 15, Reserve Your Cabana

Highlight on Fleek? Reserve your Cabana | lookingjoligood.wordpress.comWhile personally I am not a super over the top highlight all over the face kind of gal, I know that “strobing” is very in right now.  Since highlighting is so popular there are so many different types and brands of highlighters to choose from.  I have tried a few different ones, some higher end and some drugstore ones. I have to say out of all of the ones that I have tried the $3.99 Reserve Your Cabana Bronzer highlighter from Wet N Wild is my absolute favorite.  It may be called a Bronzer, but don’t let that fool you this is definitely a highlighter and it is gorgeous.  It is such a beautiful shade with just the right amount of shimmer and glow. I don’t know what it is exactly about this highlighting bronzer, but it is absolutely stunning. I use it on my cheekbones, the inner corners of my eyes, on my brow bone, and sometimes on top of my cupid’s bow.  It just adds this beautiful glow to the skin without being an overly in your face highlight.  Whether you are on a tight budget or not, I highly recommend this highlighter, it is such a great product!

What does the Wet N Wild website have to say about this highlighter…

“Sunset tan! The grand daddy of the bronzer world! This big, hunky guy is the perfect man: he’s healthy for you (dermatologist-tested), not slimy (oil-free), has a great pedigree (winner of The Oprah Magazine O-Ward) and is so protective (from harmful UVB rays). Plus, he’ll always complement how you look!”

September Ipsy Glam Bag

I can’t believe that another month has flown by and it is already time to receive another ipsy glam bag!  If you don’t know what ipsy is you can check out my previous post all about it by clicking HERE.

As usual, again this month my daughter was very excited about seeing what the ipsy glam bag design was going to look like.  This month it is a gold faux leather bag with a raised texture pattern design with a matching tan zipper. She described this months bag as “really pretty with a ‘leatherish’ feel”.

Here is a picture of what my “glam bag sneak peak” said I would be getting in my bag this month…But it isn’t what I actually received.  Too bad, because I like the items they were supposed to send me better than the ones that I got.  Oh well, nothing I can do about it now.
September Ipsy Glam Bag | lookingjoligood.wordpress.comHere is what I actually did get in my ipsy glam bag this month…
-NYX Cosmetics ipsy Eye Shadow Trio- when my daughter saw this she said “That light shade will NYX Cosmetics ipsy Eye Shadow Triobe great for all over the lid and the brown one will be perfect for the crease.”  That’s my girl!  The black shade swatches a bit patchy but it might be different once actually applied to the lid.

-Formula X Nail Color in Ignite- While it is a perfect for fall dark red shade, this one is going into the give away pile. As I have mentioned before, I actually hate getting nail polish samples.  I get my toes done at the salon and never paint my finger nails at home.

-Crown Brush Oval Concealer Brush (C224)

-Not Soap, Radio Revitalizing Hand/Body Lotion in the scent persimmon + plum (smells quite delightful)
tre'StiQue lip crayon Nantucket Nude | September Ipsy Glam Bag | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com
-tre’StiQue Mini Matte Lip Crayon in Nantucket Nude- The actual product itself is wonderful, I have a few other tre’StiQue products and I love them .  This lip crayon is smooth and creamy, feels great on the lips, swatches beautifully.  Unfortunately, the color is absolutely horrendous on my lips!  I’ll spare you a picture of it!

I am jealous that this month some people got the NAOBAY Natural & Organic Oxygenating Moisturizing Cream. It is one of my favorites and I just ran out of it.  I still can’t find where to repurchase it, and the site that ipsy sent me to isn’t in English, so I can’t read it well enough to purchase it. *sigh* Nothing wants to work out for me, haha.

How about you?   Did you get an ipsy’s glam bag?  What did you get in yours?  Were you happy with your samples?  Do you get any other monthly subscription bags/boxes that are worth trying out?  Let me know in the comments below.

If you don’t already subscribe and would like to try out ipsy you can use my referral link by clicking HERE!

Hair Color and Skin Undertones

Hair Color and Skin Undertones | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com Experiencing a good hair day has the power to completely transform your entire perspective! Although I’m unsure of the exact reasons behind it, I can confidently affirm that it holds true without a doubt. Knowing that your hair looks good can add an immeasurable amount of confidence to the way that you feel.

A lot of people are fortunate enough to be born with a beautiful head of gorgeously colored hair. Take my son, for instance, he was blessed with stunning auburn red hair. It’s not uncommon for random women to approach him and express admiration for his captivating hair shade. Naturally, being a young boy, he finds it rather bothersome when they do so. 🙂

Were you aware that, similar to undertones being crucial for selecting foundation, they play an equally significant role when it comes to coloring your hair? (If you don’t know what your skin undertone is read my post by clicking HERE!)

Unless you are going for a shockingly major change, try to stay within two shades of your natural hair color for the best results.

If your skin has warm undertones, it’s advisable to opt for hair colors that have warm tones as well. On the other hand, if your skin has cooler undertones, it’s best to stick with hair colors that have cooler tones. An effortless method to determine the undertones of a hair dye is to observe its name: if it includes “platinum” or “ash,” it signifies a cool-toned color. Conversely, if the name contains “golden” or “mahogany,” it indicates a warm-toned color.

Cool Skin Tones

Hair Color and Skin Undertones | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Here are Hair colors that Cool Skin Tones Should Avoid:
Individuals with naturally cool undertones should refrain from selecting hair colors that incorporate gold, yellow, red, or bronze tones. These warm hues can potentially give the appearance of a sallow complexion and make you look more tired or drawn.
Hair color that Cool tones look best with:
For individuals with cool undertones, the most flattering hair color shades include glossy raven-wing blacks, cool ash browns, and a range of cool blondes spanning from mink to platinum and icy white. When it comes to highlights, opt for wheat, honey, taupe, or ash shades. Stick to neutral, ash, and beige bases when selecting a hair color. Additionally, you have the advantage of being able to pull off many vibrant “unnatural” hair colors such as lipstick reds, burgundies, orchids, and purples, which can add excitement to your look.

Warm Skin Tones

Hair Color and Skin Undertones | lookingjoligood.wordpress.comHair Color that Warm Skin Tones Should Avoid:
To maintain a flattering look, it is recommended to avoid hair colors that have blue, violet, beige, or ash undertones if you have cool-toned skin. These shades have the potential to “wash out” your skin color and may not complement your complexion as well.
Hair color that Warm tones look best with:
For individuals with warm undertones, hair colors such as dark, warm browns, chestnuts, rich golden browns, auburn, warm gold, and red shades tend to be the most flattering. Additionally, highlights in warm tones can enhance your hair’s appearance. Consider incorporating golden blondes, copper streaks, and golden brown shades as highlights to add warmth to your hair color. Colors with a red-orange or gold base will generally complement your complexion well.

Few Guidelines to go by when coloring your hair at home:

When it comes to artificial hair color, regardless of the shade or tone, it’s important to understand that simply choosing a lighter shade will not achieve the desired lightening effect. The general rule of thumb in hair coloring is that hair color cannot lift or lighten existing hair color. While you can alter the tone of your hair, the level or lightness cannot be changed through coloring alone. If you wish to achieve a lighter shade, it may require additional steps such as bleaching or using hair lightening products. It’s recommended to consult with a professional hairstylist for the best approach to achieve your desired result. Go see a professional if you want to lighten your hair.
When opting for a darker hair color, it is advisable to select a warm and golden tone to avoid ending up with an ashy appearance. Choosing a warm tone can help maintain vibrancy and prevent your hair from looking dull or lackluster. In cases where you have grey hair that is appearing too light or if the hair color is not effectively covering the grey, it is recommended to allow the color to remain on your roots for at least 40 minutes or even longer. Grey hair is typically resistant to color and requires a longer processing time for the hair color to fully penetrate and provide adequate coverage. By extending the processing time, you increase the chances of achieving the desired result in terms of coverage and color intensity.
Hair Color and Skin Undertones | lookingjoligood.wordpress.comI recently watched Fantastic Four with my son. In the movie, Jessica Alba, a naturally beautiful actress, portrayed the character Susan Storm with a blonde hair color that may not have been the best match for her skin undertones. Now, don’t get me wrong she is absolutely beautiful, but whoever decided that this was the shade of blonde for her didn’t know much about matching hair color with skin undertones! It seems that the hair stylist may not have taken into account the importance of aligning hair color choices with an individual’s skin undertones. As a result, she appeared washed out throughout the film. It serves as a valuable lesson, no matter how beautiful you are, consider your own skin undertones when deciding on a hair color to ensure a harmonious and flattering overall look. By matching your hair color choice with your skin’s undertones, you can enhance your appearance and achieve a more cohesive and complementary style.
