Light in the Darkness

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward. -MLK jr

We Need To Do Better!

do better! Be better! | lookingjoligod.blog
I am not a political person, I am not looking for a fight, argument, or a big discussion. I am just so tired of unkindness being the normal thing.

Evil prevails when good men stand by and do nothing! I don’t know what to do personally, but something needs to be done!

Just because someone has a different point of view, perspective, or culture does not give us the right to disregard, look down on, or ignore their presence.

Just because we disagree with what someone else believes doesn’t mean we have a right to treat them insensitively or with anything other than love and kindness.

There’s so much anxiety, unrest, and strife in our world! We have made things all about which side we’re on, you against me, us against them.  I’m right, so you are automatically wrong.

When it comes right down to it, we are all people, we are all imperfectly flawed.  We all make mistakes.

We are all different.  These differences are what make us special.  These differences are not what makes us weaker or less than.

It often seems hopeless, as if bad people are getting rewarded, and it seems that hate will win.  In the end, doing the right thing is still the best thing to do and being kind is still worthwhile.

So while I cannot change a lot of things about the world, I can be kind to those I interact with.  I can smile at, and acknowledge those around me.  I don’t want to stand by and do nothing!

What can we all do?

Be a friend.

Smile.

Be kind.

Get over your self, get out of your own way!

Choose happiness, choose joy!

We need to do better! Be better! Be kinder!

Tip Tuesday #89: How to apply your bronzer

Here’s another tip for Tip Tuesday:

Tip Tuesday Make up tips and tricks every Tuesday | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Today’s tip is about how to apply your bronzer to get the best results.

I am so pale, therefore, I NEED bronzer! Along with blush and mascara, it is one of those magical makeup products that can be applied quickly and simply, yet will instantly add life to your face.

Here are my tips on how to get the best results from your bronzer application.

  • Apply powder bronzer after all of your cream products have been set.
  • Using a clean fluffy brush, dip your brush into the bronzer, tap away any excess, don’t skip this part of the step
  • Sweep a small amount onto the areas where your skin would naturally pick up sun:
    • the top of the cheeks
    • on the nose
    • across the forehead
    • a touch on the chin
  • Blend the color up and out along the tops of your cheekbones and forehead.
  • Apply more as needed
  • Blend, blend, blend!

For shimmery formulas, only apply to the higher points of the face, similar to how you would apply highlighter.

Keep in mind that even if you are using the world’s best makeup, if you don’t use the correct technique it’s not going to look good on you.

Tip Tuesday #88: Contour vs Bronzer

Here’s another tip for Tip Tuesday:

Tip Tuesday Make up tips and tricks every Tuesday | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Today’s tip is about the difference between contour and bronzer

While both bronzer and contour products are usually a shade of brown, and they both go on the face, they are actually quite different.

Bronzers are generally warm-toned with orange or red undertones.  It is used to add warmth and life to the face in the areas that the sun would naturally hit your skin: the top of your forehead, nose, and cheeks.

Contour products are usually cool toned. The areas where the contour product is applied are the temples across the forehead at the hairline under the cheekbones and jawline, around the nose and under the lips.

While matte bronzers can be used for contour it is not ideal since contour is designed to mimic shadows on the face and not to warm up the completion.

Don’t confuse bronzing your face with contouring.  These are two different techniques.

Two of my current favorite contour products are:

What’s the Word for 2018?

Happy New Year, 2018!

Happy New Year | lookingjoligood.blog

I’m not really one for New Year’s Resolutions, what about you?

I am more of a resolve to make a change when it is needed whether it is January 1st, April 18th, or November 24th. That being said, this year I am going to try something a little different. This is something that has been on my mind for a few weeks now…

I have been thinking about claiming a word for the year.

I feel as if claiming a word has a much more positive spin to it than a new years resolution.  Most New Year’s Resolutions are tossed aside or forgotten by the end of February… Whereas, a word of the year is something that can be focused on, and meditated on, in little spurts rather than an everyday task or one big thing.

Here are a few of my potential words:

  • Contentmentsatisfied with what one is or has; not wanting more or anything else. ease of mind.
  • Joy: the emotion of great delight or happiness caused by something exceptionally good or satisfying; keen pleasure; elation:
  • Healththe general condition of the body or mind with reference to soundness and vigor
  • Kindness: of a good or benevolent nature or disposition, sympathetic attitude toward others, and a willingness to do good or give pleasure.
  • Organization: to form as a whole consisting of interdependent or coordinated parts, especially for united action:

One of the words in the top running for this year is actually something that I have already been trying to focus on: Gratitude!

Gratitude: warmly or deeply appreciative of kindness or benefits received; thankful
IMG_20171229_065336_472.jpg

During the month of November, I blogged daily about what I am thankful for. I really enjoyed intentionally focusing on being grateful. After taking the time every day to list out all the things I have to be thankful for I realized just how true it is that gratitude turns what we have into enough!

The best is yet to come | lookingjoligood.blog

What about you?  Do you make resolutions or do you claim a word to focus on for the year?  I’d love to hear what you are looking forward to in 2018!

No Gym No Problem

No Gym? No Problem! #1

What a great way to start out the new year with a great stretching workout!

You may not realize it, but flexibility is just as important for you as strength and cardio!  Sometimes I am so sore from a previous intense workout that I need to focus for a few days on flexibility and stretching.  This is a quick 10-minute flexibility workout by (my favorite) Jessica Smith!

Remember to keep proper form and warm up before and stretch after you exercise!

No Gym? No Problem! #48

Since it was Christmas yesterday, you got a break from your Monday morning workout, but that doesn’t mean you can take today off too. 😉

This 15-minute workout used cardio to target the belly fat and tone your abs.  Having strong abs not only helps you to look better but it will also improve your posture as well as decrease back pain.

Remember to keep proper form, warm up before, and stretch after you exercise!

~Weekly Product Highlight~Revitalift Triple Power Deep-Acting Moisturizer 1.7oz -L’Oreal Paris~

Revitalift Triple Power Deep-Acting Moisturizer 1.7oz -L’Oreal® Paris $17-$25

Loreal Revitalift triple power moisturizer/hydrant | lookingjoligood.blogI have been using the Loreal Revitalift Intensive Anti-aging Day cream Moisturizer for about six months now.  Along with a few other skin care products in my routine, I have seen a huge improvement in my skin’s overall condition.

The product claims are “Visibly reduce wrinkles. Re-firm skin. Smooth skin’s texture.”  I’m not going to say that it has made my “wrinkles” and fine lines go away, or maybe even lessen, but I feel as if using this moisturizer consistently has helped to make my skin look brighter and more youthful.  I have not noticed any “re-firming” but I have noticed an increased smoothness to my skin’s overall texture.

Laura Smile | lookingjoligood.blogIt is a medium consistency off-white cream that absorbs quickly into the skin making it perfect for being worn under makeup.  It provides a deep moisture to the skin without feeling thick, greasy, or heavy on the skin.  Not too much is needed, and I find that if I apply too much at once it does seem to ball up on itself.REVITALIFT Triple Power Intensive Anti-Aging Day Cream Moisturizer | lookingjoligood.blog
