Beauty Subscription

Walmart Beauty Box Winter 2017

Did you know that Walmart has it’s own a subscription beauty box?  Yup, they do!  It is a quarterly box and only costs $5 a season.

Walmart technically calls it a “sample box” and says that the box itself is free and the $5 is a flat rate for shipping and handling.  Either way, the box costs $5 each season.

In your Walmart Beauty Box, you can expect to find around 7-9 samples. Sometimes there are even a few full sized makeup samples.

How does it work?

  • You sign up at https://beautybox.walmart.com/
  • Create and account
  • Add your payment and shipping info
  • Wait for you confirmation email
  • Enjoy your beauty box when it arrives

walmart bueauty box gift box | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

The Walmart beauty box website says

“Each subscriber will be charged upon receiving an order confirmation (locking in your box for the season).
If you do not receive an order confirmation, please check your account information to make sure the payment and shipping information in your account is up to date (as well as check your junk mail). Following the order confirmation email is a shipping confirmation, once you receive the shipping confirmation email you can expect a delivery within 5-10 business days. Each seasonal Beauty Box is a limited edition and may sell out at any time.
Note: Beauty products may vary by box.”

There are two different types of boxes available, the classic and the trendsetter.  Up until recently, only one box could be sent per email address, but that has been changed.  I  now recieve both boxes.

Here is what I got in this seasons boxes:

Classic Box

1 full size, 3 delux samples, and 2 shampoo/conditioner foil packs

classic beauty box | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Trendsetter Box

2 full size, 3 delux samples, and 1 shampoo/conditioner foil packs, coupons.

trendsetter

Over all, I think that this was just an ok set of boxes!  The Trendsetter was definitely the better of the two.  Compared to last season’s boxes, and previous boxes,  I wasn’t overly impressed. (see the photos below)

For $5 each I find that the Walmart beauty boxes are generally a great deal!  How about you, do you get the Walmart Beauty box?  Did you get the same samples in your box? What do you think?

I’m sure you will be seeing some of these items in an upcoming  How ’bout Them Samples Post. 🙂

Love and Life

A Little Bit About Me

Hello everyone! I thought that since several of you have recently followed I would introduce myself a bit more.

Here is a list of  questions to get to know a little more about me…

1. Is your hair naturally curly or straight?
My hair is perfectly straight, and I even though I absolutely love how easy it is, I can’t really wear it too many different ways because of how straight it is.
2. Do you dye it yourself or go to a salon?
I have never dyed my hair.  It is still the same exact color that God gave me.  If I do need to start dying it, I will definitely let a pro do it.
3. Do you wear the same style everyday, or do you change it?
I am a pretty routine kinda gal, so pretty much stick with the same general style, but usually when I mix it up I am not even that far from my usual.
5. How often do you change your nail polish?
If you have been around Looking Joli Good for any amount of time at all, you already know the answer to this question.  Never, I don’t polish them.  It drives me nuts if my polish chips at all!  So instead of having to redo them as soon as that happens, I just don’t polish them. (Ain’t nobody got time for that!) I get my feet done at the salon (not as often as I would like to).  I don’t get my fingers done because I don’t like to have my cuticles pushed back, so gross!  Just writing about it now makes my fingers hurt!
6. Do you polish your toes in the winter or just the summer?
My toes are ALWAYS polished,  so yes, I definitely polish my toes in the winter! I prefer the way my feet look better with polished toes.
7. How long does it take for you to put on makeup?
Depends on what look I am going for. If it is just a more natural face then 10ish minutes, but if I want to take my time and be more detailed then probably around a half hour.  (Don’t ask my husband or kids though, they’d say I spend 3 hours every day putting makeup on. Don’t I wish I had that amount of time!)
8. What do you do first? Face or eyes?
Usually face because I take the most time on the eyes, so I don’t want to spend too much time in the beginning and then end up running out of time to do the rest of my face.
9. Do you collect makeup or just buy what you need when you need it?
I love makeup, but I also get overwhelmed by too much stuff.  I would say I am a makeup wearer, but not a makeup collector.
10. How often do you wear false eyelashes?
Never, and I don’t ever plan to start.  I think that they look good in certain situations, but as a mom to two youngish kids, totally not necessary in my life at this time.
11. Do you wear makeup when you’re home alone or with family?
Well, I definitely love to wear makeup and look nice for my husband, but if it is just my husband and kids hanging around at home all day, I usually will not put makeup on.  My husband always tells me “You don’t need to wear that stuff.”  I guess I probably don’t really NEED to, but I really do enjoy it.
12. Will you leave the house without makeup?
Um, well…yes of course, I don’t really like to, but I will if I have to.
Hello! I'm Laura Joli from Looking Joli Good! | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com
Are you still with me? Haha!
13. Do you plan your OOTD every night or decide when you’re getting dressed?
Yes, for church, special days, and work. I plan ahead and get it ready at night, but usually otherwise it just depends on how I feel that day.
14. How often do you change your handbag?
Quite often.  Generally when I find a great purse I will use it for a while, but if I am wearing something nice and it doesn’t match my outfit I will switch to another one.
15. How often or when do you workout?
Five to six days a week, in the morning. (yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, I am pretty obsessed!)
16. Left handed or right handed?
Right handed
17. How tall are you?
5″4′ …ok, ok, ok…5″3 1/2′
18. Do you speak any foreign languages?
Nope, but I have been trying to learn French…Il va assez lentement cependant.
19. How many pets do you have?
You that have been following for any amount of time know all about my sweet 10 year old Boston Terrier, Tessie.  She is my best friend and the sweetest, kindest, most loyal dog.
My cute dog Tessie | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com
20. Do you keep a list of products to try as you see other posts?
Yes, I do.  If more than one person I trust recommends a product I will add it to my list.
21. What are some things that you like to do with your free time?
I love to exercise and take long walks with Tessie.  Obviously I enjoy blogging in my free time.  I love to read!  (I have read a book a week for the last 5 years)
22. What kind of camera do you use for your photographs?
I have a Nikon D3300 but a lot of the time I just my phone a Nexus 7.
23. How often do you clean your house?
Every. Single. Day. Feels as if that is what I spend the majority of my time doing…I actually like to clean and do house work.  (although if you ask my family they will say I spend all my time putting on makeup and talking…lol)
24. What’s your favorite color?
I am a girly girl all the way and as unoriginal as it probably is, my favorite color is pink.
25. Do you swear?
Nope, never.

Did you stick with me for the whole post? Did you notice that I skipped #4?  I hope that you enjoyed learning a little more about me.  Hope you have a great day!

This week’s tip is how to avoid that dreaded gap between your eyeliner and eyelashes…

While there is no “wrong way” to do your makeup, and if you like the way that something looks go for it and do what makes you feel pretty!…All that being said…

I remember when I was a junior in college I had a friend that always had a gap in between her eyeliner and eyelash line.  For some strange reason, it seriously drove me nuts!

gap eyeliner | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

When eyeliner is done correctly your lashes will look fuller and your liner will make your eyes stand out.  To achieve this is as simple as wiggling your eyeliner directly into your lash line.  Yup, that is it!   If you need to you can even lift your upper lid and tight lining underneath you lashes.  This way your eyeliner with be an enhancement and not a distraction from you beautiful eyes!

Flab to FAB

Give Yourself Permission To Enjoy Food

When I decided to make a drastic dietary change in my life, I knew I didn’t want to be on a “diet”.  I wanted to make a lifestyle change that would last forever.  I LOVE to eat.  I go to bed thinking about breakfast and wake up looking forward to all the wonderful things that I am going to eat during the day.

I have given myself permission to enjoy food.

Being able enjoy a special meal with friends and family or have a piece of birthday cake at a party is all part of enjoying life.  I allow myself to go on vacation and fully enjoy foods at restaurants that I will not be visiting again for a long time (or possibly ever). It makes the whole balanced healthy diet attainable for a lifetime, not just to reach a specific goal.  I don’t want what I don’t allow myself to eat to hold me back from living my life.

wp-1459775062985.jpg

Once again it is all about BALANCE.

My diet is balanced and not overly restrictive.  It doesn’t just consist of  spinach, kale, and celery. (although, I do enjoy eating those things.)  Every once in a while I will let myself have a bowl of ice cream or M&M Chocolate Chip cookies.  I enjoy every spoonful and every bite, and I do not make myself feel bad about it.  The key is to not eat the entire pint of ice cream or the whole plate of cookies.

M&M's chocolate chip cookies | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Eating healthy is not a chore, it takes thought and preparation, but it isn’t a chore.

Since reaching my final goal weight I follow the 80/20% rule. Eighty percent of what I eat is healthy, and I let myself splurge the other 20% of the time.

Consistency is more important than perfection! | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

I love to eat and I love to exercise, but all diet and no exercise is not right, just as all exercise and not eating a healthy diet is also not best.

Trust me I have tried to only exercise and not eat healthy! For 5 years I diligently worked out so hard, 5 days a week, 1- 1.5 hours each day.  During those 5 years I sweat a lot, I got a lot stronger, and I always ate whatever I wanted to. It wasn’t until I improved my diet that I finally started to feel amazing and see all the awesome results I had been trying to achieve with exercise only.

wp-1460239182287.jpg

Giving myself permission to enjoy the food I eat and not make myself feel bad about indulging once in a while has helped me to be successful in the long run…being truly healthy is a marathon, not a 500 meter race.

What about you?  Have you been on a journey from flab to FAB?  Have you made any major lifestyle and diet changes? What do you do to keep yourself on track and accountable?

Tip Tuesday #40

Here is another tip for Tip Tuesday!

Tip Tuesday: Make up tips and tricks every Tuesday | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Instead of using a pencil, gel, or liquid liner to line the lower lash line use  eye shadow.  Take a small eyeshadow brush and a coordinating eyeshadow and apply it to the outer two-thirds of the lower lash line. Blending the darker color with the inner corner color will create a beautifully seamless look along the lower lash line.  This simple trick will give dimension and depth to the eyes without looking too harsh. Don’t forget to blend blend blend!

LORAC Alter Ego Lip Gloss Collections

Last year I bought (and instantly fell in love with) the LORAC Love, Lust & Lace Lip Gloss Collection Gift Set. These lip glosses quickly became my favorites and I have been wearing them constantly!  My favorite from last year’s set is CEO, a beautiful dusty rose “my lips but better shade”.

While unfortunately that particular 6 gloss set is no longer available, these beautiful lip glosses can be bought as singles for $16 USD.  Available in 16 shades, you can find them at Kohls, Ulta and Lorac.com

lorac alter ego lip glosses | lookingjoligood.wordpress.comAt such an amazing deal of 6 glosses for $25, I was anxiously waiting for this year’s Lorac Alter Ego Sets to come out!

A few weeks ago I swatched the Happy Hour Hues set that is available at Kohls.  Unfortunately, even though they are beautiful, I felt as if the shades available wouldn’t work well with my skin tone.  So despite the great deal, I passed on buying the glosses.

My sister in law was at Ulta and sent me a picture of the A Lavish Affair set available there. She ask if it was the same or if the set of glosses are different.

I was so excited to discover that they had completely different glosses available at Ulta.  While the shades are similar in each set, they are just different enough.

alter ego lipgloss sets | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

These glosses are highly-pigmented and have a long lasting glossy color without feeling sticky or uncomfortable.  I think that the slightly vanilla scent is a pleasant scent that I love.

The tip of the applicator works great for the cupids bow as well as getting color in the corners of your lips.  Also the angle of the doe foot applicator gives a very smooth application.

  • Only at ULTA!  A $96 value!“Lorac’s A Lavish Affair Alter Ego Lip Gloss Collection edition collection gives you a lip for every look. Decorated in Rose Gold, the Alter Ego lip gloss shades will take you from the first toast of champagne through the finale with one swipe of highly-pigmented, glossy color. The set includes 6 full size Alter Ego Lip Gloss Shades.”lorac a lavish affair lip gloss set | lookingjoligood.wordpress.comLip gloss shades include:

    • It Girl (coral pink with gold shimmer)*
    • Goddess (mauve)
    • Diva (hot pink)*
    • Icon (cherry red)*
    • Dominatrix (deep burgundy)

lorac a lavish affair lip gloss set | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

I am so happy that I decided to buy this set.  Each of these colors is absolutely beautiful in a very different way.  I can’t decide which one is my favorite… probably Goddess, a purple tones mauve, which is another “my lips but better” shade.  So far I have really been enjoying wearing It Girl, the golden flecks are beautiful and when it wears off they still look great without looking crazy like some sparkly glosses can.  Bae is a beautiful pink toned neutral shade that is similar to Sex Symbol from the Love Lust & Lace set.

similar-swatches
Sex Symbol from last year’s set is very similar to Bae in this year’s A Lavish Love Affair set from Ulta.

I thought for sure that Icon (cherry red) wasn’t going to work with my skin tone.  When I put it on, I realized that it is more of a glossy watermelon red than a brick red like last years Vamp red shade is. I was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful it is.  Dominatrix (deep burgundy) was in last years set as well and it makes my teeth look extra white.  I have not worn Diva yet, but I know that I will get a lot of use out of this set.

How ’bout Them Samples Review 4

I just realized that I posted my How Bout Them Samples #5 without ever posting  the review of my #4 samples.  Well… here it is. 🙂

You may remember that as part of my “strict no buy” I had decided to try to use up a bunch of the neglected samples that I have already received from various places and sample boxes. I some are from ipsy bags, or Target boxes and others from Walmart beauty boxes. ( I have so many samples that I don’t even remember where I got all of them from originally.)

how bout them samples | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

I posted a few weeks ago that I would let you know what I think of each thing and if I would purchase these items based on my thoughts from these samples.  Some products were awesome and I used them up right away, others have taken me longer to use.

Here’s my review of the samples from the fourth group of what I have been trying out…

bella-pierre-mineral-blush | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

swatch bella pierre | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Bella Pierre Mineral Blush in Desert Rose

I usually I am not a huge fan of mineral blushes because some times they are powdery (obviously) and can be hard to get decent color pigmentation from.  I have been using this blush almost everyday since I posted the How bout Them Samples #4 post.  I have really been enjoying this blush.. It is a perfect color for my skin tone and looks very natural.  I haven’t had any issues with it being splotchy or uneven.

A 9 gram /.33 oz. jar of this blush costs $45. (The sample size that I have is .2 oz)

Based on the sample yes, I would buy this Bella Pierre Mineral Blush in Desert Rose.

burts bees | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com
Burt’s Bees Naturally Nourishing Milk and Honey Body Lotion

I really wanted to like this… I really did, but nope, I don’t.  It has a funny scent and a greasy feel.  I like that it is more natural, but I couldn’t get over the scent of it.

A 6 oz bottle of this lotion costs around $7.

Based on the sample NO, I would not buy this Burt’s Bees Naturally Nourishing Milk and HoneyBody Lotion

hanalei | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com
Hanalei Lip Treatment

This is another product that I really wanted to like.  I starts off great, kinda thick, smooth and slick without being sticky.  But the longer I wear it the less I like it. I just didn’t find my lips to be overly moisturized by this lip treatment. I have used other less expensive treatments that I liked better.

This Hanalei Lip Treatment is $20 for 0.53 oz.

Based on the sample NO, I would not buy Hanalei Lip Treatment.

juara swatch | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Juara Turmeric Antioxidant Radiance Mask

This mask smells so bad!  It smells like the liquid that leaks out of a garbage truck. When I was growing up we always called it “trash juice.”  I am not even kidding, it stinks so bad!

Based on the sample NO, I would not buy Juara Turmeric Antioxidant Radiance Mask

palmers-cocoa-butter-lookingjoligood

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula

I never used this Palmer’s Cocoa Butter while I was pregnant which seems to be when most people seem to use it the most.  My kids love the way that this lotion smells.  It definitely has a chocolate scent to it.  I have been using it on my elbows knees and heels.  It works great!

An 8.5 oz bottle of this lotion cost around $5, a this 1.7 oz sample size is $0.99.

Based on the sample YES, I would buy this Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula.

peter-lamas-lookingjoligood

Peter Lamas Supreme Radiance Complexion Booster

This primer smells so funky!  I think that it works great, but it really stinks!  I am not kidding, this primer doesn’t smell good at all.  It has a nice little sparkle that adds a glow to the skin.  I have enjoyed using it.

A full size Complexion Booster is $44 for 1 oz.

Based on the sample YES, I would buy this Peter Lamas Supreme Radiance Complexion Booster.

pixi-by-petra-lookingjoligood

Pixi by Petra Blush Beauty Blush Duo Rose Gold

This is not a very good blush at all, it is a beautiful highlight though!  Even swirled together it doesn’t look like it is a blush.  I have been using it as a cheek highlight and in my inner corner and brow bone.

Based on the sample YES, I would buy this Pixi by Petra Blush, but definitely not as a blush.

smashbox-primer-oil-lookingjoligood

Smashbox Primer Oil

Here is my issue with this product, it works great as an oil to add to foundation, but the opening of the bottle is so large that it makes it hard to get just one or two drops out at a time.  I am pretty sure that the full size has got to have better packaging.  The full size of this oil is $42 for 1 oz.

Based on the sample YES, I would buy this Smashbox Primer Oil.

strivectin-ar | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

StriVectin-AR Eye Treatment

I love the scent of this under eye cream! I don’t really know if it made much of a difference because I don’t really have a huge under eye problem.  It seems really nice though. This eye cream is not cheap at $75 for 0.5 oz.  Only a little bit of eye cream is needed, so I have a feeling that 0.5 oz. will last a while.

Based on the sample NO, I would not buy StriVectin-AR Eye Treatment, not because it isn’t good, just because I don’t think I need to spend $75 for something that I don’t really know if it makes a big difference (even though I totally believe in prevention).

tarteist mascara | lookingjoligood.wordpress.comc

Tarteist Mascara

I can’t decide if I love or hate this mascara…when I first put it on my lashes look amazing!  Then as the day goes on it just kinda disappears.  I don’t know where it goes?  It doesn’t flake or smudge, it just vanishes.  At work I looked into the mirror and it looked as if I forgot to apply mascara to my lashes.  I was not happy about that!  Has anyone else used this mascara and had that happen?

Also, the packaging looks super cute, but as I have been using this over the last few weeks it has been annoying me the way that the top fits into the tub.  As you might be able to tell from the above picture it kind of clicks into the tube.  It makes it hard to be able to get the excess mascara off the brush because of the way the packaging is.  I am not sure if it is the same for the full sized mascara.

This sample size (0.1 oz) is $6 and the full size is $23 for 0.24 oz.

Based on the sample NO, I would not buy this Tarteist Mascara.  It is great for the first few hours, but then not

Makeup of the Day | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

In the above picture I have on several of the products that I sampled this time around:

Bella Pierre Mineral Blush in Desert Rose
Burt’s Bees Naturally Nourishing Milk and HoneyBody Lotion
Pixi by Petra Blush Beauty Blush Duo Rose Gold (as a highlight on cheeks, brow bone, and inner corner)
Smashbox Primer Oil
Tarteist Mascara
(You may remember this picture from my makeup of the day post.)

What about you?  Have you tried any of these products?  What did you think?

Tip Tuesday #37

Here is another tip for Tip Tuesday!

Tip Tuesday: Make up tips and tricks every Tuesday | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

The trick is to make eyes look big and bold is to create depth with your eyeshadow. You can do this by first applying a lighter colored shadow all over your eyelid. Next using  a darker shade  apply it in the crease of your eye above your lid. This will give dimension and depth to the eyes. Don’t forget to blend blend blend!  Blending the lid color with the crease color will create a beautifully seamless look.
