Tip Tuesday #88: Contour vs Bronzer

Here’s another tip for Tip Tuesday:

Tip Tuesday Make up tips and tricks every Tuesday | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Today’s tip is about the difference between contour and bronzer

While both bronzer and contour products are usually a shade of brown, and they both go on the face, they are actually quite different.

Bronzers are generally warm-toned with orange or red undertones.  It is used to add warmth and life to the face in the areas that the sun would naturally hit your skin: the top of your forehead, nose, and cheeks.

Contour products are usually cool toned. The areas where the contour product is applied are the temples across the forehead at the hairline under the cheekbones and jawline, around the nose and under the lips.

While matte bronzers can be used for contour it is not ideal since contour is designed to mimic shadows on the face and not to warm up the completion.

Bronzing vs Contour | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com
Don’t confuse bronzing your face with contouring.  These are two different techniques.

Two of my current favorite contour products are:

Three of my current favorite bronzers are:

What’s the Word for 2018?

Happy New Year, 2018!

Happy New Year | lookingjoligood.blog

I’m not really one for New Year’s Resolutions, what about you?

I am more of a resolve to make a change when it is needed whether it is January 1st, April 18th, or November 24th. That being said, this year I am going to try something a little different. This is something that has been on my mind for a few weeks now…

I have been thinking about claiming a word for the year.

I feel as if claiming a word has a much more positive spin to it than a new years resolution.  Most New Year’s Resolutions are tossed aside or forgotten by the end of February… Whereas, a word of the year is something that can be focused on, and meditated on, in little spurts rather than an everyday task or one big thing.

Here are a few of my potential words:

  • Contentmentsatisfied with what one is or has; not wanting more or anything else. ease of mind.
  • Joy: the emotion of great delight or happiness caused by something exceptionally good or satisfying; keen pleasure; elation:
  • Healththe general condition of the body or mind with reference to soundness and vigor
  • Kindness: of a good or benevolent nature or disposition, sympathetic attitude toward others, and a willingness to do good or give pleasure.
  • Organization: to form as a whole consisting of interdependent or coordinated parts, especially for united action:

One of the words in the top running for this year is actually something that I have already been trying to focus on: Gratitude!

Gratitude: warmly or deeply appreciative of kindness or benefits received; thankful
IMG_20171229_065336_472.jpg

During the month of November, I blogged daily about what I am thankful for. I really enjoyed intentionally focusing on being grateful. After taking the time every day to list out all the things I have to be thankful for I realized just how true it is that gratitude turns what we have into enough!

The best is yet to come | lookingjoligood.blog

What about you?  Do you make resolutions or do you claim a word to focus on for the year?  I’d love to hear what you are looking forward to in 2018!

Walmart Beauty Boxes Fall 2017

Did you know that Walmart has it’s own  subscription beauty box?  Yup, they do!  It is a quarterly box and only costs $5 a season.Walmart beauty box classic | lookingjoligood.blogWalmart technically calls it a “sample box” and says that the box itself is free and the $5 is a flat rate for shipping and handling.  Either way, the box costs $5 each season.

In your Walmart Beauty Box, you can expect to find around 7-9 samples. Sometimes there are even a few full-sized makeup samples.

How does it work?

  • You sign up at https://beautybox.walmart.com/
  • Create and account
  • Add your payment and shipping info
  • Wait for you confirmation email
  • Enjoy your beauty box when it arrives

Hello, BoxyCharm! December 2017 Box

Boxy charm is a$21/month/box subscription that includes 5 luxury and indie brand products.  Instead of sample sizes like some other subscription boxes/bags, Boxycharm has full sized products.   It ships to the US and Canada.boxy charm hello charmer! | lookingjoligood.blog
Each month the value of the box is usually over $120.  It is a great way to try out different higher priced brands without spending a lot of money.  I’ve received products from brands such as Tarte, Cover Fx, Becca, Dr. Brandt, and Bare Minerals.
Boxycharm December 2017 | lookingjoligood.blog

December’s theme is Glitz and Glam.

Boxycharm December 2017 | lookingjoligood.blog

I love that they include a card with the product’s info and pricing on it.  There are usually a few product variations each month between the boxes that are sent out.  This month there were three different possible boxes.  I got box number one, as indicated by the number 1 in the lower right-hand corner of the info card.

Boxycharm December 2017 | lookingjoligood.blog

Here is what I got in my box this month:

bellápierre Cosmetics – Pro Concealer Palette $29.99

“BelláPierre’s professional color correcting concealer palette is formulated with rich creamy good for your skin ingredients. Helping create a flawless healthy complexion.”

Thankfully I don’t usually need to color correct my skin, so I’m not into this at all.  I would never pay $30 for this, but the box is still a great value despite this being a giveaway product for me.  It smells exactly like a box of crayons.

FYI: Orange is great for masking dark circles under the eyes. Green is helpful for diminishing redness, and the purple shade is supposed to help to give brightness to the skin.  Remember that if you color correct, you need to have really good high coverage foundation and concealer as well.crown brushes Boxycharm December 2017 | lookingjoligood.blog

Crown Brush – Deluxe Blush Brush $12.00

“With super soft, dense synthetic bristles, this brush can be used with both powder and cream blushes, and provides medium to full coverage for a more dramatic finish.”

It is incredibly soft, but a bit dense to be used as a blush brush.  It is still a great brush that I’m sure I will be using for something else.tarte tarteist mascara Boxycharm December 2017 | lookingjoligood.blog

tarteist™ lash paint mascara $23.00

“A jet-black mascara that has a molded brush that grabs and coats even the tiniest lashes for 2700% more volume.”

Ummm, 2700% more volume?  Is that even a measurable amount.

I’m not really a big fan of the brush on this mascara.  It is the type that has the stiff plastic bristles. tarte tarteist mascara Boxycharm December 2017 | lookingjoligood.blogI love tarte!  It is probably one of my top 5 all-time favorite makeup brands.  The packaging is super sleek!  I can’t decide if I love or hate this mascara…when I first put it on my lashes look amazing!  Then as the day goes on it just kinda disappears.  I don’t know where it goes?  It doesn’t flake or smudge, it just vanishes.  At work the other day, I looked into the mirror and it looked as if I forgot to apply mascara to my lashes.  I was not happy about that!  Has anyone else used this mascara and had that happen?real her blush kit Boxycharm December 2017 | lookingjoligood.blog

Pretty Vulgar – My Lips Are Sealed Lightweight Liquid Lipstick $24

“A highly pigmented liquid lipstick that provides a radiant metallic finish, nice comfortable creamy texture, and a citrus cordial flavor.”

Pretty Vulgar has some gorgeous packaging!  I feel like their prices are a bit high, but that being said…I’m almost considering buying another one of these liquid lipsticks and I usually hate liquid lipstick.pretty vulgar packaging Boxycharm December 2017 | lookingjoligood.blogI have fallen madly in love with this My Lips Are Sealed lightweight liquid lipsticks. What A Beautiful Name

There are often times that I start thinking… and one thing leads to another… and my thoughts stray from what is honest, just, pure, lovely and of good report.**
Philippians 4:8 | lookingjoligood.blog

It is during these times that I not only pray for help and encouragement and read scriptures to remind me of God’s goodness and grace, but I also surround myself with praise songs.

2 corinthians 10:5 | lookingjoligood.blog

Today has been one of these days…  A song that has been speaking to my heart this morning is What A Beautiful Name by Hillsong Worship.

What A Beautiful Name by Hillsong Worship

You were the Word at the beginning
One With God the Lord Most High
Your hidden glory in creation
Now revealed in You our Christ

What a beautiful Name it is
What a beautiful Name it is
The Name of Jesus Christ my King

What a beautiful Name it is
Nothing compares to this
What a beautiful Name it is
The Name of Jesus

You didn’t want heaven without us
So Jesus, You brought heaven down
My sin was great, Your love was greater
What could separate us now

What a wonderful Name it is
What a wonderful Name it is
The Name of Jesus Christ my King

What a wonderful Name it is
Nothing compares to this
What a wonderful Name it is
The Name of Jesus
What a wonderful Name it is
The Name of Jesus

How sweet is your name, Lord, how good You are
Love to sing in the name of the Lord, love to sing for you all?
Death could not hold You, the veil tore before You
You silenced the boast, of sin and grave
The heavens are roaring, the praise of Your glory
For You are raised to life again

You have no rival, You have no equal
Now and forever, Our God reigns
Yours is the Kingdom, Yours is the glory
Yours is the Name, above all names

What a powerful Name it is
What a powerful Name it is
The Name of Jesus Christ my King
What a powerful Name it is
Nothing can stand against
What a powerful Name it is
The Name of Jesus

You have no rival, You have no equal
Now and forever, Our God reigns
Yours is the Kingdom, Yours is the glory
Yours is the Name, above all names

What a powerful Name it is
What a powerful Name it is
The Name of Jesus Christ my King
What a powerful Name it is
Nothing can stand against
What a powerful Name it is
The Name of Jesus
What a powerful Name it is
The Name of Jesus
What a powerful Name it is
The Name of Jesus
Philippians 4:8

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

2 Corinthians 10:5

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

I hope that you can find some encouragement from this song today as well.

Matthew West – Broken Things

This song has been running through my head the last few days.  I love that God can take someone who is broken and still use me!

If grace was a kingdom
I stopped at the gate
Thinking I don’t deserve to pass through after all the mistakes that I’ve made

After all the mistakes that I’ve made

Oh but I heard a whisper
As Heaven bent down
Said, “Child, don’t you know that the first will be last and the last get a crown”

Now I’m just a beggar in the presence of a King
I wish I could bring so much more
But if it’s true You use broken things
Then here I am Lord, I’m all Yours

You use broken things

The pages of history they tell me it’s true.
That it’s never the perfect; it’s always the ones with the scars that You use

It’s the rebels and the prodigals; it’s the humble and the weak
All the misfit heroes You chose
Tell me there’s hope for sinners like me

It’s always the ones with the scars that You use

Now I’m just a beggar in the presence of a King
I wish I could bring so much more
But if it’s true You use broken things
Then here I am Lord, I’m all Yours

Grace is a kingdom
With gates open wide

Grace is a kingdom
With gates open wide
There’s a seat at the table just waiting for you
So, come on inside
