Tip Tuesday #72

Here is another tip for Tip Tuesday!

This week’s tip is about preventing your mascara from getting on your upper lids:Neutrogena Healthy Volume Mascara | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

We all know about those crazy faces we make while applying mascara. Haha!

To prevent your newly applied wet mascara from smudging on your upper lids while applying mascara to your lower lashes,  simply apply mascara to your lower lashes first.

Seems like such a simple tip, but I have a feeling that a lot of people don’t think about doing it that way.

You will prevent a smudgy mess from happening because your wet top lashes won’t be brushing up against your upper lid leaving little black smudges on your beautiful eye shadow while you are applying mascara to your lower lashes.the balm mascara | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Ditch The Diet for Healthy Habits

Smooth Operator…

~Ditch The Diet~

You are trying to be a healthier version of yourself! Instead of eating donuts and bagels for breakfast you have been proudly making smoothies instead. Good job! I am proud of you for making a positive change!

You have really been enjoying your healthy morning smoothie, but you expected the weight to just drop off. Why haven’t you seen any changes on the scale? What is going on?!

Here are some reasons why that morning smoothie may not be doing you any favors….

Yes, having a smoothie made solely from a variety of fruits is much healthier than eating a bagel with cream cheese! Keep in mind that even though fruit smoothies do have fiber and nutrients, they still have calories. and are still full of natural sugars.

I cannot even tell you how many times I have filled my blender with all the healthy ingredients that I can think of. Before I knew it, that yummy healthy smoothie has turned into a 650+ calorie breakfast.

Unfortunately, just because a food is nutritious doesn’t mean it’s low in calories. Certain foods such as avocados, dates, nuts, nut butters, whole milk yogurt, and oats can tack on a hundred calories each!

Even fruits like apples, pears, mangoes, cherries, and bananas can quickly add in extra calories. Don’t shy away from these healthy nutrient-rich ingredients — just use a small amount of each.

Making your morning smoothie with all kinds of different fruits could quickly turn your healthy smoothie into a high-calorie meal! Instead pair your fruit with a protein source such as milk, yogurt, protein powder, soft tofu, beans, nuts, or nut butter.

I have learned the hard way that instead of eyeballing and adding all kinds of tasty ingredients, measuring out ingredients is essential!

You will really want to keep the calorie count down especially if you’re pairing your smoothie with something else like a slice of toast or muffin.

Making Smoothies Even Easier | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Your smoothie should aim to have:
Calories: 300 to 400
Fiber: 5 to 10 grams
Protein: 13 to 20 grams
Carbs: 40 to 55 grams
Healthy fats: 10 to 15 grams
Sugars: 36 grams or less

The protein will give you lasting energy, the carbs give you quick energy, the healthy fats and fiber will keep you full longer. Sticking to this “formula” will help you to make a smoothie that will not only be filling but also help to maintain your blood sugar.

Ok, so you’re thinking thanks for all the info, that doesn’t help me when I am making my morning smoothie…

Here is what you really want to know, how do I make a smoothie that meets all of these requirements?

Here is a recipe that I love…

Chocolate Strawberry Banana Smoothie (365 cal)

5 frozen strawberries (50 cal)
1 frozen banana (90 cal)
1 cup spinach (7 cal)
6 ounces plain Greek yogurt (100 cal)
1/2 cup chocolate unsweetened almond milk (25 cal)
1/2 tablespoon peanut butter (95 cal)

Total: 53g carbs, 32g sugar, 8g fiber 8g fat, 26g protein,

This is another combo that I make the most often:
2 cups of greens (25 cal),
1 banana (90 cal),
1/4 cup blueberries (20 cal),
1/4 cup mango (50 cal) ,
1/4 avocado (80 cal)
1/2 tablespoon chia seeds: 30 calories or 1 tablespoon flax meal: 40 calories
total 295-300 cal.
I will also add some sort of protein either greek yogurt 100 cal, 1tbs PB 95 cal, or protein powder 130 cal

Making Smoothies Even Easier | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Here’s the calorie breakdown of other healthy ingredients you might want to add to your smoothie:

1 cup unsweetened soy milk: 80 calories
1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk: 40 calories
1 cup coconut water: 43 calories
1 serving (about 35 grams) vanilla protein powder: 110 calories
1/2 cup nonfat vanilla Greek yogurt: 83 calories
1/2 cup vanilla soy yogurt: 105 calories
1/2 cup coconut milk yogurt: 90 calories
1/2 tablespoon chia seeds: 30 calories
1 tablespoon flax meal: 40 calories
1 serving soft tofu (1/5 package): 60 calories
1/4 cup cannellini beans: 50 calories
1 tablespoon almond butter: 95 calories

I hope this is helpful and that you continue to enjoy your morning smoothies!

Review · Weekly Product Highlight

Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe Herbs, and Rosewater

~Weekly Product Highlight~ Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe Herbs, and Rosewater~Mario Badescu | lookingjoligood.blog

I had heard great things about this facial spray with aloe herb and rosewater, so I was very excited to see how it worked.  So many of the reviews say “this spray is life changing!”  Little did I know how quickly I would become obsessed with it!

I love to try new skin care products and pamper my skin!  I have normal to combo skin and get an occasional breakout here and there.  This spray has been leaving my skin feeling glowy moisturized and smoothed. The nozzle gives a nice fine spray, making it possible to be used as an after makeup spray as well.

Like the name states, this spray has a light refreshing rose scent.  Despite that fact that I love actual real flower roses, I’m not usually a big fan of rose scented things.  This spray is an exception, I really love the scent of it!  It is also available in an Aloe, Cucumber and Green Tea version.  I think that I am going to try that one next time.  At the rate that I am using this spray, that will be very soon…

I’ve had this 4 fl oz bottle for about 4 weeks.

Here is how I have been using it:
I mist onto my face, neck, or hair whenever I feel like I want to, haha.😉 It is like giving my skin a little pick-me-up either before I put my makeup on or, post-makeup application to reduce a powdery looking finish.  I have been spraying my face either before or after (or both) applying my daily and nightly moisturizer. I’m telling you, I’m obsessed with this facial spray!  Despite the fact that I have a small face and I could probably get away with only using two spritzes at a time, I love to really go at it and use 4 sprays at a time. 😂  I have been using it at least twice a day, sometimes as many as four times a day.  Like I said, I’ve become pretty obsessed with this spray. Mario Badescu facial spray | lookingjoligood.blog

This spray is available in two versions and three sizes: Aloe Herbs, and Rosewater version and Aloe, Cucumber, and Green Tea version, and in 2, 4 and 8 fl oz bottles. The travel size 2 fl oz bottle is $5.00 USD, and a 4 fl oz bottle that I have now is $7.00 USD. Now that I know how much I love this product, next time I purchase it, I plan to pick up the 8 oz bottle which is $12.00 USD.

What does the Mario Badescu Website have to say about it:

Cult-favorite. Makeup artist must-have.

Revitalize skin with dewy radiance. Whether spritzed for a hydrating boost or mid-day pick-me-up, our cult-favorite facial spray helps revive dehydrated skin anytime, anywhere. #MBSKINTIP: To give your makeup a dewy finish, spritz your favorite brush or sponge before blending in foundation or concealer. Once you’re done, mist your face as a final step to add radiance. For an extra refreshing and cooling boost, store the bottle in your refrigerator.
A refreshing, hydrating mist to use anywhere anytime. Simply formulated with fragrant herbal extracts and rosewater for a pleasant, pick me up for dehydrated, tight and uncomfortable skin. Spray your day and night creams for a boost of hydration or use it to set make-up or spray on dry hair throughout the day. Safe for all skin types. Gentle, non-irritating.”

What about you?  Have you ever tried this Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe Herbs, and Rosewater?  Was it love at first spray for you too?  Have you tried the Aloe, Cucumber and Green Tea version? If you try this spray, let me know what you think about it!

Here is what I got in my June 2017 ipsy glam bag:

Beaute Basics Travel Face Blender in Light Pink

Do not be deceived by the look of this face blender.  It may resemble the shape of a Beauty Blender.  It may be the same color as a Beauty Blender… but this, my friend, is no Beauty Blender! This thing is TERRIBLE!!! I may as well get a rock from my back yard and try to apply my makeup with it.  NOPE!

beauty blenders | lookingjoligood.blog

The instructions say to “wet the blender, give it a squeeze, and use a towel to absorb any excess water.” I assumed that the blender would become larger like most other sponges. It did soak up a ton of water, but it didn’t get any bigger or softer.  Save yourself $9.99 and buy a Real Techniques beauty sponge for $4.88. (Want to know what I think about how awesome the Real Techniques beauty sponges are, click HERE)
ipsy nyx Ipsy june glam bag | lookingjoligood.blog

NYX Professional Makeup Whipped Lip & Cheek Soufflé in Plush

So far the things that I have owned from NYX are some of my favorites.  As a brand overall, I really enjoy their products, this is not one of the things that I would ever consider buying on my own. It claims that it can be used on lips and cheeks.  It is a really pretty color, but it doesn’t really show up on my lips, and is not comfortable either.  Also, I will never use it on my cheeks because of the oily texture.  Kinda a waste of a sample for me.  Maybe someone else will get some use out of it because it really is a pretty color.

ipsters who got this product in their Glam Bag received the shades Cocoa Bean, Pink Cloud, or Plush (I got plush).

  • Cocoa Bean is a super versatile nude brown that also works great for contouring.
  • Pink Cloud is a warm pinky coral that’s perf for a lit-from-within flush.
  • Plush is a cool nude pink that looks awesome on literally all skin tones.

I really love mascaras, but for some reason, I am just really tired of getting them in my glam bags.  To be honest, I haven’t even opened this one up to look at the brush.  Maybe I will just pass this along to someone else.  Kinda a waste of a sample…

skyn ICELANDGlacial Face Wash with White Willow Bark

Surprisingly this is the thing that I am looking forward to using the most out of my 5 samples this month.  I have been really into skin care recently.

I have finally made up my mind and I am planning to get a 3-month subscription to Boxy Charm… but I haven’t signed up for it yet.  I have seen a few posts about what is in the June box.  I think that the RealHer eyeshadow palette looks great, but I am never going to wear the liquid lipstick and I’m not sure if I want the brush, face masks, and highlight.  I think that I’ll wait until next month.

Tips and Tricks

Tip Tuesday #69

Here’s another tip for Tip Tuesday:

Tip Tuesday Make up tips and tricks every Tuesday | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Use plain Greek Yogurt as a face mask.

I don’t know about you, but I am always looking for ways to improve my complexion and skin.  Skin care is so important!  Unfortunately, it can also be so expensive!  I have a miracle skin care step that is quite inexpensive!

I have been using plain greek yogurt as a face mask, and my skin is looking better than ever!  My skin feels and looks smoother, my fine lines and pore are less visible.

chobani yogurt mask | lookingjoligood.blog

There are so many benefits to applying a Greek yogurt mask!  What I have noticed is that it helps moisturize, fight acne, prevent breakouts and reduce discoloration.  I have heard that it also can prevent premature aging,  as well as relieve sunburn.

yogurt mask | lookingjoligood.blog

Directions: Generously apply 1.5-2 tsp of plain greek yogurt to the entire face avoiding the eye area.  Let it sit on the skin until the mask is dry. Remove with a warm washcloth and be amazed at how beautiful your skin looks and feels.

Generally, I will apply it before I take a shower and leave it on my face about 10 min or so, depending on how much time I have.  If I have a busy morning and don’t have time to bother with a face mask, I will apply the mask at night and leave it on anywhere from 20-35 min.

Ditch The Diet for Healthy Habits

Don’t Focus On Denial

~Ditch the Diet~

How true is it that all we want is what we can’t have!  When it comes to living a healthy lifestyle it is so important to not focus on denial!

Why do we always want what we can't have | lookingjoligood.bolg

Occasionally enjoying a sweet treat or special meal is an absolutely necessary part of a living a healthy life. God gave us taste buds because He wants us to be able to enjoy our food.

Overly denying ourselves of the things we crave will only lead to eventual overeating of those things. When the temptations become too much, and they always do, will power alone will not be enough.

If going out to eat and having the bread basket in front of you makes you break into a cold sweat, that is not right! That is also no way to live! You don’t need to eat every single piece of bread in the basket, but enjoying one piece of bread should not be something that sends you into a 2-week carb binge.

breadbasket | lookingjoligood.bolg

If all you can talk about is how much you want to eat bread, chips, fries, cookies, cake or insert your food of choice here, you will eventually find yourself eating an entire cake and feeling completely terrible about it.

If you want a french fry, have a fry or two. You don’t need to eat an entire large fry, but a fry or two might be just the thing to keep you from derailing your entire healthy eating plan.

Don’t forget to implement the other parts of the list:

1) Make small manageable changes one at a time.
2) Set realistic goals and write them down.
3) Shop the perimeter of the grocery store.
4) Find healthy foods you love.
5) Get a routine and be consistent with it.
6) Let Yourself Indulge (within reason)
