Jumping For Jumpsuits

I’ve been obsessed with Maxi dressed for years! The class yet ease of wearing a flowing maxi dress just always makes me feel put together and beautiful.

jumpsuit | lookingjoligood.blog

I’ve found a new obsession, I have recently fallen in love with jumpsuits!

They are so versatile. They can be dressed up or down, making them perfect for any occasion. They can be worn to work, to a party, or even just running errands. I love that I can just throw on a jumpsuit and be ready to go. No need to worry about matching a top and bottom, or trying to find a piece that flatters my figure. Jumpsuits just work.

I also love that jumpsuits are so comfortable. They’re like wearing a maxi dress, but with the added benefit of pants. I can move around freely and not have to worry about my clothes getting in the way. This makes them perfect for traveling or for those days when I just want to be comfortable.

Finally, I love the way jumpsuits make me feel. They make me feel confident and put-together without feeling like I over thought my outfit choice.

Here are some tips for styling jumpsuits:

  • Choose a jumpsuit that flatters your body type. If you are petite, look for a jumpsuit that is fitted through the waist and has a longer hemline. If you are curvy, look for a jumpsuit that has a bit of stretch and a cinched waist.
  • accessorize to add your own personal style. You can add a belt or jewelry to dress up a jumpsuit. For a more casual look, you can wear sandals or sneakers.
  • Choose the right fabric for the occasion. If you are wearing a jumpsuit to work, choose a fabric that is wrinkle-resistant and professional-looking. If you are wearing a jumpsuit to a party, choose a fabric that is more festive, such as silk or satin.

No matter how you style it, a jumpsuit is a versatile and stylish outfit that is sure to turn heads. So next time you are looking for something to wear, reach for a jumpsuit and you’ll be ready to take on the day.

Whenever I wear a jumpsuits I always feel like I look polished and put-together. They’re a staple in my wardrobe and I know I’ll always reach for them when I need a quick and easy outfit.

Here are some jumpsuits that I have bought and a few I think you might like. Most are around or under $50:

Dress Confidently by Embracing and Celebrating the Body You Have

body shapes lookingjoligood.blog

It has taken me a long time, but I’ve come to a realization: embracing and respecting my body as it is brings so much more happiness. It’s all about finding cute clothes that fit well and wearing them with confidence. In the past, I used to force myself to eat tons of raw veggies every day because it was supposed to be “good for me.” But honestly, they caused so much stomach pain. What’s the point of doing something that’s supposed to be beneficial if it only brings constant discomfort? The same goes for those intense workouts I used to push myself through. Sure, they made me strong, but my muscles were always aching. Why should I torture myself just to conform to societal beauty standards when all I really want is to hang around reading while I wear loose, comfy clothes?

It’s disheartening to see how deeply ingrained diet culture is, even among women in their 60s and beyond. There’s this toxic belief that women must always strive to be thin. But you know what? It’s time to break free from that mindset and simply enjoy life.

By respecting our bodies when they’re asking for a break, honoring our minds when they’re seeking rest, and giving ourselves those much-needed moments of rest and relaxation. I want to share a few tips that I have been working on myself…

Accepting Your Body Shape:

Every body shape is beautiful and deserves to be celebrated. Instead of fixating on changing your body, shift your mindset to accepting and appreciating the unique features that make you who you are. Understanding your body shape can help you make informed choices when it comes to selecting flattering clothing styles that highlight your best features. Embrace your curves, angles, and everything in between! (click HERE to read about discovering what your body shape is and how to dress it.)

Emphasizing Your Assets:

Focus on highlighting the parts of your body that you love and feel confident about. If you adore your legs, choose skirts or dresses that showcase them. If you have an elegant neckline, opt for tops or dresses that draw attention to it. By directing attention to your favorite features, you’ll naturally exude confidence and feel comfortable in your own skin.

Finding the Right Fit:

When it comes to clothing, fit is everything! Instead of squeezing into sizes that don’t align with your body shape, prioritize finding clothes that flatter your unique proportions. Seek out brands and designers that offer a diverse range of sizes and cuts, ensuring you find pieces that fit well and make you feel fantastic. Remember, it’s not about the number on the tag; it’s about how the clothes make you feel.

Experimenting with Styles and Colors:

Fashion is a wonderful playground for self-expression. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different styles, colors, and patterns that resonate with your personality and make you feel vibrant. Play around with textures, layering, and accessories to create visually interesting and flattering outfits. Express your creativity and have fun with your wardrobe, allowing it to reflect your authentic self.

Building a Wardrobe of Confidence:

Invest in a wardrobe that makes you feel confident and comfortable. Curate a collection of versatile pieces that can be mixed and matched to create a variety of stylish outfits. Choose fabrics that feel great against your skin and silhouettes that enhance your natural shape. Surround yourself with clothing that boosts your confidence and allows you to step out into the world with a sense of empowerment.

Dressing the body you have is all about embracing and celebrating your unique beauty. Fashion is a tool for self-expression, and you have the power to curate a wardrobe that makes you feel confident, stylish, and comfortable. Accept your body shape, emphasize your assets, prioritize the right fit, experiment with styles and colors, and build a wardrobe of confidence that truly reflects who you are.

Accentuating Your Body Shape: Dressing Comfortably and Confidently to Embrace Your Unique Silhouette

body shapes lookingjoligood.blog

I’ve had a lot of lifestyle changes recently which has sent me on a journey of revamping my wardrobe. Just because something is in style or on trend doesn’t necessarily mean that it will look good on my body shape. Understanding your body shape is the foundation of dressing confidently and embracing your curves. When you know how to accentuate your best features, you can create looks that not only flatter your unique silhouette but also boost your self-confidence. (this post contains affiliate links)

hourglass | lookingjoligood.blog

If you have an hourglass figure, with well-balanced bust and hips and a defined waistline, embrace your curves by opting for form-fitting clothing that accentuates your waist. Wrap dresses, belted tops, and high-waisted bottoms are great choices to showcase your curves. Try tailored silhouettes and fabrics that drape beautifully over your body, like a fitted pencil skirt paired with a tucked-in blouse, to highlight your waist and create a polished, feminine look.

Green and Pink Pattern Triangle | lookingjoligood.blog

For those with an inverted triangle body shape, characterized by broader shoulders and a narrower waist and hips, the key is to balance your upper body with your lower body. Choose V-neck or scoop-neck tops to create the illusion of a narrower shoulder line. Add volume to your lower body with A-line skirts, wide-leg pants, or flared jeans. This helps create a more proportionate look by adding curves to your lower body. Pairing a flowy blouse with wide-leg trousers can achieve a balanced and chic outfit.

Pear | lookingjoligood.blog

If you have a pear-shaped body, with wider hips than bust and a defined waistline, draw attention to your upper body while balancing your lower body. Highlight your waist with fitted tops and experiment with different necklines to bring focus upward. A-line dresses and skirts that skim over your hips are flattering options. Combine them with tops that add volume to your shoulders, like boat neck or embellished tops, to create a balanced look and direct attention to your upper body. (Click HERE for some examples of tops with volume and HERE for some A-line dresses)

apple | lookingjoligood.blog

If you have an apple-shaped body, where your midsection carries more weight compared to your bust and hips, focus on emphasizing your assets such as your legs, arms, and décolletage. Choose V-neck or scoop-neck tops, skirts/dresses that hit above or below the knee, and sleeveless/short-sleeved tops. Define your waist with design elements like ruching or gathering. Opt for flowing silhouettes like A-line dresses and tops. Play with patterns and colors to divert attention. Layer strategically with structured blazers or cardigans. Consider shapewear for added support. Ultimately, wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident while embracing your body and unique style.

rectangle | lookingjoligood.blog

If you have a rectangle body shape, where your waist is slightly wider and not very defined, there are styling techniques that can help create the illusion of curves and enhance your proportions. Choose clothing that adds shape and definition to your waistline, such as belted dresses or tops with cinched waist details. Opt for garments with volume and texture to create curves, such as peplum tops or ruffled skirts. Experiment with layering to add dimension, such as pairing a fitted top with a cropped jacket or cardigan. Additionally, try wearing high-waisted bottoms to create the appearance of a more defined waistline. By incorporating these tips, you can dress in a way that flatters your rectangle shape and enhances your natural beauty.

Embracing and dressing for your body shape is all about highlighting your best features and feeling confident in your own skin. If you have thick thighs, like I do, and want to dress in a way that flatters your body, here are some suggestions that I have implemented into my own style:

  1. Embrace the Right Fabrics: Opt for fabrics that have some stretch to them, like denim with a small percentage of elastane or cotton-blend materials. These fabrics will provide comfort and flexibility while accentuating your curves in a flattering way.
  2. Find the Right Fit: When it comes to bottoms, look for styles that are tailored to accommodate your thighs. Avoid overly tight or clingy bottoms that may make you feel self-conscious. Instead, opt for pants, skirts, or dresses with a slight flare or A-line silhouette. These styles will create balance and visually elongate your legs.
  3. Lengthen with Vertical Lines: Incorporate vertical lines in your outfits to create an elongating effect. Striped pants, vertical prints, or even a long cardigan can help visually lengthen your legs. Pair these items with a solid-colored top for a streamlined look.
  4. Emphasize the Upper Body: Draw attention to your upper body by wearing statement tops or blouses with interesting details such as ruffles, embellishments, or eye-catching patterns. This will shift the focus upward and balance out your proportions.
  5. Choose the Right Skirt Lengths: When it comes to skirts, opt for lengths that flatter your body shape. A-line skirts that hit just above or below the knee can be particularly flattering for those with thicker thighs. This style accentuates the waist while skimming over the thighs in a flattering way.
  6. Experiment with Layering: Layering can be a great way to add dimension and create a balanced look. Consider pairing a fitted top with a loose, open cardigan or a tailored blazer. This combination will create a flattering silhouette and draw attention away from the thighs.
  7. Wear Shapewear or Tights: If you feel more comfortable with added support, consider wearing shapewear or tights. These undergarments can help smooth out any perceived imperfections and provide a streamlined look under your clothes.

These are just general guidelines, and every one of you is uniquely beautiful. The most important aspect is to wear clothing that makes you feel comfortable and confident. Try different styles, experiment with accessories, and play with colors and patterns that resonate with your personal style. These suggestions are meant to serve as guidelines, but ultimately, it’s your personal style and confidence that will shine through. Embrace your body, celebrate your curves, and rock your unique fashion sense with pride. By understanding your body shape and dressing in a way that flatters your silhouette, you can confidently showcase your best features and embrace your unique beauty.

No Gym No Problem

It’s Baaaaaack! (And so am I) No Gym? No Problem! Week 6

If you have been around Looking Joli Good for any amount of time, you know that I love to workout! When I hurt myself last year, once I finally admitted to myself that I could no longer work out, I didn’t know what to do with myself.

It’s been a really long year of healing and very slow progress. Since I have finally made some major progress in the healing department, and I have begun to work out.

I’ve been dying to get back into a regular workout routine.  While I am still not healed enough to jump back into my previous level of exercising, I’ve started to do some simple workouts.  I’ve also learned to listen to my body and take it super slowly.  There is no rush and no point in reinjuring myself or undoing any progress.

I have restarted back at square one… although that’s not even true, it is actually more like square -100.  I decided there is no place better to pick up than exactly where I started 11 years ago… working out with Leslie Sansone.

She is so encouraging and always so happy.  She does extremely simple exercises that are easy to follow along with.  Despite her exercises being low impact and easy to follow, I still have to simplify and modify the movements.  It is all part of listening to the cues that my body is giving me.

If you decide to join me on my road to recovering my physique, you can start with this happy one-mile walk. Don’t forget to keep good form, warm-up before, and stretch out after the exercises!  Listen to your body and do what is within your ability.  Work up to a higher level of activity as you feel you can and as you get stronger.

Ready?  No excuses, let’s do it!
