I’ve been working at the Infusion Center for about 8 months now. In these last 8 months I have learned so much and stretched myself further than I have in a long time. I have faced some new fears (performing a therapeutic phlebotomy) and overcome some old fears (Am I going to remember how to be a nurse after taking an 8 1/2 year maternity leave?!). I have gotten to know some really awesome coworkers and met some great patients and their family members.
Overall the last 8 months have been enjoyable and a great learning experience for me.
For eight years, in the happiness and business of being a stay at home mom, I had almost forgotten what it is like to get attached to a terminally ill person…almost…
This past week was not an easy week at work. Even as I am writing this I can feel the pang of pain in my chest and my eyes getting teary. I had to say goodbye to a special patient. He and his family had to make the tough decision to discontinue treatments and go on Hospice.
Mr. D* will always have a special place in my heart. Like me he has a French last name, like me he also likes to talk a lot, like me he often smiles even when things are not going his way… After heading back to work after 8 1/2 years, he was the first IV stick I missed and subsequently so, the first IV I successfully started (he graciously let me try again for a second attempt.) Something about that first little victory together made us fast friends. Whenever he came in to get treatments, whether I was his nurse for the day or not, I always made sure I went and talked with him.
On Monday after he finished his infusion before leaving as he always does, he came over to say goodbye to me. He told me that he wouldn’t be coming for treatments anymore and that they had decided to start Hospice care. I wasn’t expecting to hear that and was caught off guard by his decision. While I can usually keep it together, I had a very hard time holding my tears back.
I only hope that I am making as big of an impact on my patient’s lives as they are making on me!

As you know, I love to wear makeup, and I love it when my make up stays where I want it to until I decide to take it off.
There are so many awesome long wear and waterproof products on the market. The downside to long lasting and waterproof makeup is removing it, removing it that is without removing all your skin or eyelashes in the process.
There are many great makeup removers on the market. The downside to these makeup removers is not only the chemicals, but sometimes the price tag. I have been making my own makeup remover for about 2 years now and it only costs me about $3* for 8 oz. A little goes a long way and 8 oz will last you a long time.
Easy DIY Makeup Remover
All you need for this Easy DIY Makeup Remover is
-one empty 8 oz travel sized container
-grape seed oil (or olive oil)
-witch hazel**
-a measuring cup
-a funnel.
How to Make the Easy DIY Makeup Remover
1.) Measure half a cup of grapeseed oil (or olive oil)
2.) Use the funnel to pour the oil into the empty 8 oz travel container.
3.) Measure half a cup of witch hazel.
(If you only have a 4 oz travel container use 1/4 cup of each grapeseed oil and witch hazel. If your container is 6 oz then you will put 1/3 of a cup of each.)
4.) Use the funnel to pour the witch hazel into the 8 oz travel container with the oil.
5.) Put the cover onto the 8 oz container tightly
6.) Shake well before each use, the oil and witch hazel will separate.
7.) Pour a small amount onto a cotton round. Start removing your makeup quickly and easily!
The reason I like to use Grape seed oil instead of olive oil is that it is thinner and doesn’t feel as thick on the skin. Grape seed oil is also packed with antioxidants, including skin-brightening vitamin C. It has also been said to help treat acne, fight aging, moisturize, and tighten the skin, as well as lessen dark circles under the eyes.
There are also so many skin benefits of witch hazel. It has both antibacterial and antiseptic qualities. Witch hazel is a great natural remedy for skin conditions like psoriasis, acne, and eczema. Witch hazel help remove excess oil from the skin, making it effective at treating blackheads and other blemishes.
*At around $2 for a 16 oz bottle of witch hazel and around $8-10 for 16 oz of grapeseed oil, 8 oz of makeup remover will end up costing you around $3, (plus the cost of your empty bottle if you don’t already have one).
**Witch Hazel is safe to use in small amounts around the eyes.
This weeks tip is short and sweet! When storing your makeup remover wipes keep them upside down instead of right side up. This simple change in direction will help to prevent the wipes at the top from drying out while the ones at the bottom remain extra wet and saturated.
The number one excuse that people give for not being able to workout is that they don’t have enough time! Here is a quick 15 minute workout that doesn’t take up a lot of time or need a lot of space. I love Jessica Smith, she is so encouraging! You will definitely feel the burn after doing this quick workout!

Do you ever ask yourself the question “Am I enough?”
Am I good enough? Am I doing enough? Am I happy enough? Is my house clean enough? Am I beautiful enough? Smart enough? Skinny enough?… The list can go on and on.
Quite often I give myself a hard time. I expect near perfection from myself and get upset when I don’t reach it. I need to remind myself that all I can do is my best and if I am doing my best I am enough!
When I fail, I am still loved. I am not perfect, but I am still precious.
I love a good makeup and I love a good deal on makeup!
