How ’bout Them Samples?! #2

I have been doing really well with not making any unnecessary beauty purchases!  I don’t think that I have ever gone this long before.  So far, so good.  I have walked down the beauty rows several times just to see what is new, and I have successfully left without buying anything!

As part of my self imposed “strict no buy”, I decided to use samples that I have already received but have been neglecting.  Here is the second group of what I have decided to try out…

Acure Repairing Shampoo and Conditioner
Aquaphore
Clairol Hairfood dry shampoo
Gold Bond Ultimate Hand Cream
Neutrogena Healthy Skin Booster Face Wash
Neutrogena Healthy Volume Mascara
Olay Ultra Moisturizing Body Wash
Tarte  Lipsurgence in Wonder

How ’bout Them Samples 2 | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

I have so many samples that I don’t even remember where I got all of them from originally.  I know some are from ipsy bags, or Target boxes and others from Walmart beauty boxes.  I will let you know in a few weeks what I think of each thing and if I would purchase these items based on my thoughts from these samples.

If you would like to see which samples I have already tried out and what I think about them you can read more by clicking HERE.

Tips and Tricks

Tip Tuesday #22

Here is another tip for Tip Tuesdays…

Tip Tuesday Make up tips and tricks every Tuesday | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Mascara is one of my favorite makeup items.  Finding the perfect mascara is not always easy.  Sometimes the formula is great but the brush is terrible.  It may be that the brush is awesome, but the mascara smudges and flakes.

My tip for this week…

If you find a mascara wand that you love, keep using it.  If I buy a new mascara and discover that I hate the brush, before I write it off completely, I will take a wand/brush that I like from a mascara,  ( after cleaning it off really well with rubbing alcohol between mascara bottles), and use it in the new mascara.  Sometimes that is all that it takes. It might not be that the mascara formula is one that I don’t like, it might just be the brush.

Ipsy Glam Bag July 2016

Ipsy Glam Bag July 2016 | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Another month has flown by!!! I can’t believe that it is already time to post what I got in my ipsy glam bag!   I don’t know about you, but I always loving seeing what everyone else received in their bags.

This month’s ipsy theme is “Hot Summer Nights”  The card basically tells about the new changes to the ipsy.com website.  They have added a new tips and tricks section as well as a look book inspo section.

(If you don’t know what ipsy is you can check out my previous post all about it by clicking HERE)

Ipsy Glam Bag July 2016 | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

This month’s glam bag is super cute!  Silver gray background with an iridescent sheen background with small pink and white beach umbrella pattern.  I love the iridescent colors of this bag’s print, it is one of my favorites so far!  The zipper is across the top, a feature that I prefer best.

If you don’t already subscribe to ipsy but you’re thinking about trying it out, I’d love for you to use my referral link https://www.ipsy.com/new?refer=uqdkx

Here’s what I got in my glam bag this month…

theBalm Cosmetics Meet Matt(e) Trimony Eyeshadow in Matt Moskowitz | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

theBalm Cosmetics Meet Matt(e) Trimony Eyeshadow in Matt Moskowitz
Triple milled just sounds attractive, doesn’t it? It means this shadow is super fine, making it smooth and easy to blend.

  • theBalm Cosmetics Meet Matt(e) Trimony Eyeshadow in Matt Moskowitz | lookingjoligood.wordpress.comUltra-matte color
  • Perfect on your lids, in the crease or as a transition shade
  • Velvety texture that’s as soft as it is stunning

ipsters received this eyeshadow in either Matt Kumar orMatt Moskowitz.  I got it in Matt Moskowitz, which is a deep purple plum shade.

Although in the pan the shadow feels soft and smooth, it didn’t swatch well at all. Look at that swatch!  It completely looks like a bruise! It was patchy and not very pigmented.  It took 3 passes to get the swatch to show up like this. I am hoping that when I use a brush and put it onto my eyelids I have better results.

OFRA Cosmetics Lip Liner in Silk

  • Made with synthetic beeswax for smooth application
  • Long-lasting (aka made to stay the course of the day)
  • Waterproof and drink-proof

ipsters will receive this lip liner in the shade Maya or Silk.  I got the shade silk which is described as “a ballet slipper shade that draws a soft line for perfectly pink lips.”

OFRA Cosmetics Lip Liner in Silk | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

It feels smooth and creamy when swatched.  I don’t love liners that need to be sharpened and I’m not sure how I feel about the color I received.  I don’t usually wear such a light pink/nude shade on my lips.   Naturally I have very pigmented lips, so nudes and light pinks don’t always work out for me. We’ll see if I end up using this or passing it along to someone else.

OFRA Cosmetics Lip Liner in Silk | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com
It swatches beautifully, and is a beautiful shade. I just don’t know if it is a shade that will look good on my lip color and skin tone.

EmbryolisseLait-Crème Concentré | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré

Everything on the bottle is written in French, so I had to look up what it was and how to use it.  Hopefully it is as awesome as it is described to be.

“Tips & Tricks: ipsy’s Awesome Spin Have it three-ways.

Way 1: As a moisturizer: Apply to clean skin and leave on for 5-10 minutes.

Way 2: As a primer: Massage on for an extra glow before applying liquid, mineral or pressed powder foundation.

Way 3: As a makeup remover: Dab on a cotton pad and smooth across the eyelid.”

“Making pharmaceutical-grade skincare a thing since 1950. With over half a century of experience in dermatology and cosmetics, this Parisian brand started by a doctor specializing in skin diseases has been a cult favorite for decades. Their first superstar product, the legendary Milk-Cream Concentrate, has sold millions worldwide and continues to gain fans like us every day.”

  • Shea butter and sodium hyaluronate in the formula make it glide on easily
  • Ceramides condition your lashes
  • Vegan and free of all the bad stuff (parabens, sulfates and latex)

It swatches great and is a very black black. I love that it is a twist up style of liner and think that the smudger is a great addition.

Even more so I like that fact that founder Karissa Bodar is doing such awesome things for women with and surviving cancer.

Luxie 215 small angle brush

Luxie Beauty Luxie Rose Gold Small Angle Eye Brush 215

I have a love hate relationship with getting brushes in my ipsy bag.  I somewhat hate that have been getting one almost every month recently, but I have actually been loving the bushes that I have been getting recently.  (I would much rather get a brush every month instead of nail polish!) Since I just recently started wearing gel liner, I think that this brush might come in handy for that.

“When it comes to makeup, we’re all about the details. And this brush makes it simple to apply with precision.

  • Dense and compact bristles
  • Hello, versatility! Line, smudge or fill in brows.
  • Built to last”

How about you?   Did you get an ipsy’s glam bag?  What did you get in yours?  Were you happy with your samples?  Do you get any other monthly subscription bags/boxes that are worth trying out?  Let me know in the comments below.

Loreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream

~Weekly Product Highlight~ Loreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream~

So in an effort to not buy new items, I have been “shopping” from my own stash of makeup.  I have rediscovered so many great products that I had completely forgotten that I love.  One of the rediscovered items is the  Loreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream. I forgot how much I love this product!

L'Oreal MagicSkinBeautifier | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

I am a big fan of BB/CC creams!  This Loreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream was the first BB cream that I ever used and it has been a favorite ever since!  I like the design of the packaging, it is in a small squeeze bottle that makes it perfect for throwing into my makeup bag for travel.  We recently went away for July 4th and this is what I brought along with me.

If you want something lightweight to wear during the summer when it’s hot and humid this BB cream is perfect. It gives the right amount of coverage without feeling heavy.  It leaves a flawless looking, smooth base for makeup. Like most BB/CC creams it provides sheer/light cover that can be built up to slight medium coverage.

Battle of the BB creams | Lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

As you can tell from the above photo, it comes out of the tube white and as it is rubbed in it transforms into your skin’s color for a perfect match.  I don’t know how they do it, but it seems like magic! I am guessing that is why they named it Magic Skin Beautifier.

It comes in four shades: fair, light, medium, and deep, as well as two other formulas one for anti-aging and one for anti-redness.    Prices range from $7.99 at Target to $10.99 at Ulta.

Loreal Magic BB | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

What does the Loreal Website have to say about it…

“4 Beautifying Actions in 1.
Hydrates, Primes, Perfects, Corrects.
Flawless bare skin finish.

Meet the Magic all-in-one skin BB cream, with Beautifying Beads; encapsulated pigments infused in an ultra-light lotion with antioxidants Vitamins C&E. This mullti-tasking skin beautifier delivers 4 beautifying actions in 1: hydrates, corrects, evens and perfects. Instantly transforms to your perfect shade for a flawless, bare skin finish. Over time, more beautiful skin.”

What about you? Have you tried any of the Loreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Creams?  What do you think?  Have you used other smart shade makeups? I would love to hear your opinion!

How ’bout Them Samples?! Review

how about them samples? | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

You may remember that as part of my “strict no buy”, I had decided to try to use up a bunch of the neglected samples that I have already received from various places and sample boxes.  Some products were awesome and I used them up right away, others have taken me longer to use.

Here’s my review of the samples from the first group of what I have been trying out…

Acute Day Cream | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Acure Day Cream:  This day cream has a nice citrus Christmas like scent to it.  Not sure if that quite makes sense, but the way it smells reminds me of Christmas.  I have enjoyed using this cream.  It isn’t overly awesome, but it has kept my face moisturized without feeling greasy.  The price for a 1.75 oz bottle is $16.99USD. After using this sample my opinion is that I would buy this day cream based on the sample.

Caress Love Forever Body Wash | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Caress Love Forever Body Wash:  As I have mentioned before, I am very sensitive to different scents.  I wasn’t sure if this body wash was going to give me a headache, so I was a bit apprehensive about using it at first.  It has “fragrance touch technology” that is supposed to make the scent last longer.  I was nervous that if it bothered me I might be stuck smelling it all day.  Fortunately,  it didn’t bother me at all, and I found that it actually smells absolutely wonderful!  The scent really did last for a long time! I really enjoyed this body wash..  It has a great lather and I actually got 7 washes out of this 1.8 fl oz bottle.  I love this body wash! My opinion after using the entire sample, I will definitely be buying this!

Marlowe Body Lotion | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Marlow Extra Moisturizing Body Lotion: This is a really nice thick body lotion. It has a floral scent that is very pleasant, but also quite strong. I feel like it is a honey suckle and gardenia flower scent. I got two full uses for my body out of this 2 oz sample, and have been using the little bits that are left for my hands.  A 2 oz bottle is $3.99 and 15 oz bottle is only $8.99.  I have a lot of body lotions to go through, so I won’t be buying this any time soon, but I would purchase this lotion based on the sample.

Nip and Fab Skin Glycolic Fix | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Nip+Fab Skin Glycolic Fix:  There were only 5 pads in this sample.  They may be awesome, but having only used it for 5 days I don’t see what’s the point of them.  I don’t really have enough information with which to properly decide if I would buy this or not. At around $16 for 60 pads, I’m not really interested in taking the chance.  Based on the sample I would NOT purchase this.

Nivea in shower body lotion

Nivea In Shower Body Lotion:  I use body lotion every day.  I love to keep my skin feeling hydrated.  I LOVE the idea of this.  It would be such a great thing to be able to streamline my shower routine.  I got 5 uses out of this 2.7 fl oz bottle.  I really wanted to like it, but I just didn’t.  I wasn’t a fan of the scent, a bit too manly for me.  But I would have forgiven the scent if it made my skin feel hydrated.  It didn’t.  Instead I felt as if my skin had a weird film on top of it.  Based on the sample I would NOT purchase this.

Perfect Formula Pink Gel Coat | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Perfect Formula Pink Gel Coat:  Yes, yes, we all remember that I completely complained about getting this pink gel coat from ipsy.  I gave it a try based on the high recommendations of Amy from The Makeup Case and Lizzie from lizzielovesbeauty, and I will admit, they are right it is really good.  I like the way it makes my nails look and feel.  Am I going to spend $30 on another bottle when this one runs out…Absolutely NOT!  But, if you are really into nail polish and keeping your nails super healthy, then I think it is a great product. Based on the sample I would recommend purchasing this, but will not be getting it for myself (you all know, nail polish just isn’t my thing).

Rimmel London Show Off Lip Velvet liquid lipstick | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Rimmel London Show Off Lip Velvet | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Rimmel Show Off Lip Velvet: I won’t go into great detail because I wrote an entire post about this liquid lipstick.  If you want to know what I think about it you can read more by clicking HERE.  Spoiler alert, I like it a lot.  If you want a great liquid lipstick that is not uncomfortable this is a good one! A 0.18 oz. tube is $5.  This particular shade307 Meteoric Matte is a great one for making teeth look whiter. Based on the sample I would purchase  another Rimmel Show Off Lip Velvet.

Vasanti Brighten Up Exfoliating Cleanser | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Vasanti Brighten Up Exfoliating Cleanser:  The first time I used this I hated it!  It has super fine granuals for the exfoliants. It felt as if I was rubbing sandpaper on my face.  Not exactly a pleasant feeling.  Since then, I have been using this product in the shower.  I think the extra water makes a big difference.  My skin does feel smoother after using it.  I don’t necessarily love it, but I’ll finish using the rest of the bottle. A 4.23 oz. bottle is $34.00 Based on the sample I would NOT purchase this.

I have really enjoyed trying out these samples, and I have already started using another set of samples.  Stay tuned for that post coming soon.  How about you?  What do you do with all the beauty samples you receive?  Have you tried any of these products?  What did you think?

Tips and Tricks

Tip Tuesday #21

Here is another tip for Tip Tuesdays…

Tip Tuesday Make up tips and tricks every Tuesday | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

This weeks tip is a really simple yet super important tip…

When in doubt blend blend blend it out.

If you are trying to achieve a natural makeup look, one of the biggest beauty mistakes that you can make is not blending enough.  Harsh makeup lines are a dead give away to where your natural beauty ends and your makeup begins.

If you’re thinking to yourself, “Of course I blend?!”  I’m not just talking about contour, eyeshadow, and blush, I mean all of it.  The simple step of blending your eyeliner (especially if you use liner on the lower lash line) will be a game changer for your makeup look!  I have a specific smudging tool, but you can use a q-tip or a small eyeshadow brush.

How about those lips, yup, blending your lipliner will add another level of natural looking beauty.  This simple step will also help your lips to look more natural as your lipstick wears off.  Once again, using a q-tip or even your finger works well if you don’t have a specific smudging tool.

Essence Lipliner $1.49!
