Ipsy July 2017 Glam Bag (Last Glam Bag Ever…)

I know that I have been saying it for the last few months, but I finally went ahead and canceled my ipsy subscription.  I have been getting ipsy for more than two years now, and while I have really enjoyed the samples that I have gotten, I just felt like I am ready to move on to another subscription box.

Ok, I also realize that it is already August and I am only now writing about my July ipsy bag… Summer is so much fun and the time has been flying, I know it is not really an excuse….but I figured that since I love to see what everyone gets in their bags and especially since this is my last one, I figured I would still write about my July glam bag.

July’s theme is “Over Easy”

over easy | lookingjoligood.blog(If you don’t know what ipsy is you can check out my previous post all about it by clicking HERE)ipsy and gudetama | lookingjoligood.blogIf you follow me on Instagram you already saw what I got in my July glam bag. ipsy july 2017 | lookingjoligood.blogThis month’s bag is one of my LEAST favorite bags yet.  It has an egg yoke sleeping on the front and an egg butt on the back.  What? I really don’t get it?  I have a feeling that Gudetama must be something popular somewhere, but I am not impressed.  Hey, you can’t win them all right.gudetama | lookingjoligood.blogMy kids have been cracking themselves up over this bag ever since it came in the mail.  Every once in a while they’ll look at each other and say “Meh…” and start laughing.gudetama details | lookingjoligood.blog

Here is what I got in my July 2017 Ipsy Glam Bag:

brtc | lookingjoligood.blogBRTC Jasmine Waterful Sleeping Mask
I  have to be honest, I haven’t used this yet even though I got it almost a month ago.  I don’t want to jinx myself, but my skin has been great lately!  I have a great routine going right now and I just don’t want to mess with it…Maybe I will use this in the future for a “How ’bout Them Samples.”  As for now, I just can’t mess with fate.
iby | lookingjoligood.blogIBY Beauty Crease Brush
If you have read many of my other ipsy posts you already know how I feel about getting brushes.  I’ll spare you the details.  That being said, I have been enjoying using this brush.  The dense, domed shape makes this the perfect brush to blend out darker shadow shades and create definition.  The super soft, synthetic bristles are 100% vegan.

ofra swatch ofra eyeshadow | lookingjoligood.blogYou know how I feel about tiny sample sizes, I get so annoyed.  I’m so glad that Ofra doesn’t cheap out on it’s samples like some other brand I won’t name (*cough the Balm cough*) This one is a great size!

Other ipsters may have gotten the shade Victory which is a mossy brown shade. (I’m glad that I got Gold Rush.)

tarte cosmetics Rainforest of the Sea™ deep dive cleansing gel

Ummm, I haven’t used this one either…just read what I wrote under the BRTC Jasmine Waterful Sleeping Mask, it applies here too.  I really do love Tarte products though… The packaging is super cute.

Supposedly it gets off water proof makeup is hypoallergenic and non-drying.  It is also supposed to be a cleanser that’s ideal for daily use.  I don’t know, maybe it will be in a future “How ’bout Them Samples” along with the BRTC Jasmine Waterful Sleeping Mask.
trestique | lookingjoligood.blogtrèStiQue Mini Concealer Crayon in Porcelain
The packaging of trèStiQue products is super cute.  So if packaging is your thing, you’ll probably love all their products.  I haven’t used this concealer under my eyes, but instead as an eyeshadow primer.  It has a creamy, coconut oil-infused formula that feels hydrating.

boxycharm | lookingjoligood.blog

So while this is my last month getting ipsy, I have finally made up my mind and I signed up for a 3-month subscription to Boxy Charm.  Up until now, I was on the “waiting list” but actually just got an email last night that I’ll be getting the August box.

I already saw a sneak peek and I am soooooo excited for what is coming in this month’s Boxycharm.  Stay tuned for a post when I get the box in a few weeks!

Did you get a glam bag this month? What did you get in yours?  Were you happy with your samples? Do you get any other monthly subscription bags/boxes that are worth trying out? Let me know in the comments below.

Ditch The Diet for Healthy Habits

Ponder The Path by Francie Taylor

~Ditch The Diet~

My Mom, sisters and I have been reading through this book Ponder The Path by Francie Taylor. It’s been great so far and I definitely recommend it if you are looking for a daily devotional.ponder the path francie taylor | lookingjoligood.blog

I wanted to share one of the devotionals with you that I have found to be convicting yet also applicable to this series of “Ditch The Diet”.

Happy is a man that findeth wisdom and the man that getteth understanding Proverbs 3:13

We’ve been tricked!

Women today are being duped into believing that their physical appearance is the key to happiness. Add in the myth of “anti-aging” and we’re caught in a trap, and we’re passing the Baton of insecurity to young women running the next leg of the race. Now they are also striving to have the image that supposedly makes life complete.

But does it?

I met an 80 something-year-old former beauty queen and tap dancer. “I was really famous in my day,” she told me with great pride. It was almost as if she felt the need to validate her presence by describing her past. Did you know that there are a lot of former beauties in nursing homes?

God doesn’t value the currency of good looks. In fact, it must make him shake his Heavenly head as he watches all these organized piles of dust wearing “powder and paint to make a woman what she ain’t.” Sigh.

Happiness doesn’t come from having flawless skin, stylish hair, and a size 2 figure wrapped up in fashionable clothing. All those things are temporary. You will wake up one day at 80, when it will seem to you that it was just yesterday that you were 20, like the former beauty queen, if God grants you that many days.

Happiness is a benefit of wisdom. When we find wisdom from God’s word, we are able to see life through clear lenses, understanding and comprehending that there are far more important issues in this life than whether or not people are impressed with our appearance. Cutting a fine figure is no substitute for being a wonderful human being.

To be happy is to be blessed. Find wisdom. Get understanding. It’s far more valuable than being able to wear a size 2 at age 82.

Happy is a man that findeth wisdom and the man that getteth understanding Proverbs 3:13
Read Proverbs 3.

Beauty Subscription

Walmart Beauty Boxes Summer 2017

Did you know that Walmart has it’s own a subscription beauty box?  Yup, they do!  It is a quarterly box and only costs $5 a season.

walmart beauty | lookingjoligood.blog

Walmart technically calls it a “sample box” and says that the box itself is free and the $5 is a flat rate for shipping and handling.  Either way, the box costs $5 each season.

In your Walmart Beauty Box, you can expect to find around 7-9 samples. Sometimes there are even a few full sized makeup samples.

How does it work?

  • You sign up at https://beautybox.walmart.com/
  • Create and account
  • Add your payment and shipping info
  • Wait for you confirmation email
  • Enjoy your beauty box when it arrives

walmart beauty | lookingjoligood.blog

The Walmart beauty box website says

“Each subscriber will be charged upon receiving an order confirmation (locking in your box for the season).
If you do not receive an order confirmation, please check your account information to make sure the payment and shipping information in your account is up to date (as well as check your junk mail). Following the order confirmation email is a shipping confirmation, once you receive the shipping confirmation email you can expect a delivery within 5-10 business days. Each seasonal Beauty Box is a limited edition and may sell out at any time. Note: Beauty products may vary by box.”

There are two different types of boxes available, the classic and the trendsetter.  Up until recently, only one box could be sent per email address, but that has been changed.  I  now receive both boxes.

Here is what I got in this season’s box:

Classic Box

7 sample sized products

beauty box classic | lookingjoligood.blogSeriously though, once again this deodorant!  How many times are they going to send me the same exact Dove advanced care deodorant?!  I think that I have gotten 9 so far!  I don’t  use this type of deodorant, so I have 9 mini tubes just sitting around that I really need to drop off at the woman’s shelter in my area.

Ditch The Diet for Healthy Habits

Six Simple Keys to Weight Loss

~Ditch The Diet~

No need for a lengthy introduction, I know why you are here, let’s get right into it…

Time for Change! | lookingjoligood.blog

1) Make the decision to change!

If you always do what you have always done, you will always be what you have always been.  Make a decision to change and then do it!

honesty | lookingjoligod.blog

2) Get honest with yourself!

Figure out your body fat percentage. Take your body measurements. Weigh yourself. Take “before” photos.  You will be glad you did once you start seeing results so that you can compare how far you have come.

goal setting | lookingjoligod.blog

3) Set a goal, write it down, and put a date on it!

If you are serious about your goals, write them down and keep yourself accountable!

Role Model | lookingjoligod.blog

4) Find a role model and follow their example!

Choose someone that you know has a good health and wellness lifestyle and ask for them to mentor you!  A little bit of encouragement, accountability, and guidance can be the difference between giving up and going on to succeed!  This brings me to the next point…

ignore negativity | lookingjoligod.blog

5) Ignore the negativity.

Let’s be honest, haters gonna hate!  It is human nature to try to bring other’s down to our level.  Don’t let someone else’s negativity prevent you from becoming a better version of yourself!

don't give up | lookingjoligod.blog

6) Don’t give up!

Things are going to get hard!  If it were easy everyone would already be eating right, exercising, and living a healthy life.  When things get hard work harder.  The end result of a healthier you is totally worth working through the hard times.

Tips and Tricks

Tip Tuesday #75

Here’s another tip for Tip Tuesday:

Tip Tuesday Make up tips and tricks every Tuesday | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Today’s tip is about how to apply mascara without weighing down your lashes.

Maybelline Great Lash Mascara | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Start applying the mascara from the roots of your lashes and not the tips. Using this technique will give you enough extra volume at the base of the lashes without weighing down the tips of eyelashes.

Elephants | lookingjoligood.blog

If you know me well, you know that I love animal facts!
My favorite of all the animals (besides my precious BT Tessie) is elephants. I love how they have such big personalities and memories and stick together and even cry for each other.

Jen Hatmaker also has a big personality and is one of my favorites. Here is a post from her that I wanted to share with all of you.

#Repost @jenhatmaker

・・・

A few months ago, my girl @nicholenordeman sent me a picture and a story.

It’s about female elephants. See, in the wild, when a mama elephant is giving birth, all the other female elephants in the herd back around her in formation. They close ranks so that the delivering mama cannot even be seen in the middle. They stomp and kick up dirt and soil to throw attackers off the scent and basically act like a pack of badasses.

.

They surround the mama and baby in protection, sending a clear signal to predators that if they want to attack their friend while she is vulnerable, they’ll have to get through 40 tons of female aggression first.

.

When the baby is delivered, the sister elephants do two things: they kick sand or dirt over the newborn to protect its fragile skin from the sun, and then they all start trumpeting, a female celebration of new life, of sisterhood, of something beautiful being born in a harsh, wild world despite enemies and attackers and predators and odds.

.

Scientists tell us this formation normally occurs in only two cases – under attack by predators like lions, or during the birth of a new elephant.

.

This is what we do, girls. When our sisters are vulnerable, when they are giving birth to new life, new ideas, new ministries, new spaces, when they are under attack, when they need their people to surround them so they can create, deliver, heal, recover…we get in formation. We close ranks and literally have each others’ backs. You want to mess with our sis? Come through us first. Good luck.

.

And when delivery comes, when new life makes its entrance, when healing finally begins, when the night has passed and our sister is ready to rise back up, we sound our trumpets because we saw it through together. We celebrate! We cheer! We raise our glasses and give thanks.

.

I have this picture saved in 3 different places & in a frame. (I also have an elephant ring given to me and my girlfriends from @taralivesay – it tells me: never alone.) Maybe you need this too. If you are closing ranks around a vulnerable sister, or if your girls have you surrounded while you are tender, this is how we do it.

“Ben’s Glasses”

I usually skip ads and commercials, but when I saw this little commercial for the first time I watched it all the way through.   It gets you right in the heart and brought a tear to my eye.! This is so sweet that I just had to share it!

It isn’t about vision, it’s about care.

Love and Life

I Love To Blog, BUT…

I love to blog and I love interacting with all of you, my blogging friends, but I love my kids more…

I love to blog | lookingjoligood.blog

Don’t worry, I’m not giving up blogging, or even taking an extended break!

It is just that during the summer, while my kids are on break from school, I won’t have as much time to write and work on posts.  My kids are, and will always be my first priority!

i-love-these-two | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

That being said, posts that take me less time to write, such as “No Gym No Problem!” and “Tip Tuesdays”,  and previously scheduled “Ditch The Diet” posts will continue to be posted, while posts that take longer to write such as product reviews and “Weekly Product Highlights” might be less frequent.

I will still be trying out all kinds of products, using samples, and will be making notes about my thoughts on them, but I just may have to postpone the actual review posts until the fall.

Stay tuned for a new fashion tips and tricks series that I have been working on coming sometime soon! (… well, maybe not so soon ;-))
