Tip Tuesday: Make up tips and tricks every Tuesday | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Instead of using a pencil, gel, or liquid liner to line the lower lash line use  eye shadow.  Take a small eyeshadow brush and a coordinating eyeshadow and apply it to the outer two-thirds of the lower lash line. Blending the darker color with the inner corner color will create a beautifully seamless look along the lower lash line.  This simple trick will give dimension and depth to the eyes without looking too harsh. Don’t forget to blend blend blend!

So Sweet! ~ Flab to FAB

junk-food-vs-healthy-food | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

The struggle is real!

I am going to be out right honest, I am really having a hard time keeping my diet balanced.  All I want to do is eat sweet treats ALL DAY!

I love you M&M's | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Keeping a healthy diet around this time of year is alway hard for me!  I love all things sweet.  It starts out with Halloween candy, then my daughter’s birthday, all the delicious pies and desserts of Thanksgiving, and then on to the baked goods and treats of the Christmas season and ending with my birthday cake in January.  With all these wonderfully sweet things available I really have a hard time keeping my diet in check.

It is crazy how quickly a mainly healthy balanced diet can easily get derailed by sugar cravings.

Even though it may not be an actual “addiction,” sometimes it really feels like one. Cravings, shakes, headaches, feelings of loss of control, anger and impatience, and also lack of self control and over eating more than I should.  I get so upset with myself because I know better!

I have been giving in to my cravings way too often lately!  I feel like junk, my skin looks like junk! I have been breaking out on places on my face that have never been an issue for me.  I know it all has to do with my poor dietary choices.

cookies

All food is not created equal.  Unfortunately the two hundred calories from a Little Debbie Snack Cake are not equal to the 200 calories in steamed veggies.  I really wish that this was not true! I really wish that my body would use the calories from desserts the same way it uses the veggies.

little-debbie-family-pack | lookingjoligood..wordpress.com

The problem is my brain and body really do need some sugar to be able to function.  The brain also sees sugar as a reward. Although, by eating a lot of sugar and constantly rewarding the brain can make it tougher to break the bad sugar habits I have let creep in.

The thing is, I know I don’t need as much sugar as my brain (and tongue) thinks I do.  I know I don’t have to go cold turkey and give up all things that are sweet. In fact, I have been trying to retrain my taste buds to enjoy things that aren’t as sweet.

junk-food-vs-healthy-food | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Instead of satisfying my sugar cravings with Kitkats (my favorite), M&M’s, and Reese’s Pieces, which in turn cause me to crave more sugar, I am going to be eating natural sugars high in fiber: apples, bananas, berries and oranges.

Increasing proteins like lean chicken, greek yogurt, eggs, nuts, and beans will help to kill sugar cravings. Also increasing my water intake has helped me with sugar cravings in the past.

By making small, simple changes to my diet it will be easier to overcome the cravings. Over time, I know that I will again lose my cravings for that sweet sugary taste.  I just wish that it was instant instead of gradual.

I have always believed in preparation and success being partners.  I have been trying to have healthy options readily available for myself.  Prep work is so time consuming, but it is also very important.

I know all the right things to do, now I just need to do them!

Vaseline Intensive Care Advanced Repair Unscented Lotion

~Weekly Product Highlight~Vaseline Intensive Care Advanced Repair Unscented Lotion

This is one of the best hand lotions that I have used in a long time!  It sinks into the skin quickly without leaving a greasy feel to the skin.  Most of the dry skin lotions I have used before are either tacky and sticky or greasy. The finish of this lotion is very smooth.

For use through out the day I like to use lotions without a scent, and this lotion really is unscented as it claims to be.

As a nurse and mother I  was my hands so many times a day. My hands get so sore and dry especially this time of year when it is colder.  I have used this vaseline lotion consistently for a few weeks now and the results are amazing! My skin feels moisturized and healthy, not sore or irritated at all.

A 10 oz bottle costs around $3.50 and a 1 oz sample sized tube can be purchased for around $1 USD.

What does the Vaseline Website have to say about it:

“Clinically proven to moisturize to heal very dry skin in 5 days

  • Fast-healing moisture for when your skin’s dry and rough
  • Relieves even stubborn dry patches
  • Appropriate for sensitive skin
  • Absorbs fast for a non-greasy feel

BEST FOR: SENSITIVE SKIN, DRY SKIN, DRY ITCHY SKIN

Bloom Where You Are Planted

bloomingflower

Remember the bud I shared the other day that was full of potential?  In just a few short days that small bud has turned into this amazingly beautiful flower.  Time, water, and sunshine produced this gorgeous flower from the small bud.  It is hard to imagine that all of these large beautiful petals were contained in that small bud.  This picture cannot even come close to capturing the amazing beauty of what this flower looks like in real life.

How ’bout Them Samples Review 4

I just realized that I posted my How Bout Them Samples #5 without ever posting  the review of my #4 samples.  Well… here it is. 🙂

You may remember that as part of my “strict no buy” I had decided to try to use up a bunch of the neglected samples that I have already received from various places and sample boxes. I some are from ipsy bags, or Target boxes and others from Walmart beauty boxes. ( I have so many samples that I don’t even remember where I got all of them from originally.)

how bout them samples | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

I posted a few weeks ago that I would let you know what I think of each thing and if I would purchase these items based on my thoughts from these samples.  Some products were awesome and I used them up right away, others have taken me longer to use.

Here’s my review of the samples from the fourth group of what I have been trying out…

bella-pierre-mineral-blush | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

swatch bella pierre | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Bella Pierre Mineral Blush in Desert Rose

I usually I am not a huge fan of mineral blushes because some times they are powdery (obviously) and can be hard to get decent color pigmentation from.  I have been using this blush almost everyday since I posted the How bout Them Samples #4 post.  I have really been enjoying this blush.. It is a perfect color for my skin tone and looks very natural.  I haven’t had any issues with it being splotchy or uneven.

A 9 gram /.33 oz. jar of this blush costs $45. (The sample size that I have is .2 oz)

Based on the sample yes, I would buy this Bella Pierre Mineral Blush in Desert Rose.

burts bees | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com
Burt’s Bees Naturally Nourishing Milk and Honey Body Lotion

I really wanted to like this… I really did, but nope, I don’t.  It has a funny scent and a greasy feel.  I like that it is more natural, but I couldn’t get over the scent of it.

A 6 oz bottle of this lotion costs around $7.

Based on the sample NO, I would not buy this Burt’s Bees Naturally Nourishing Milk and HoneyBody Lotion

hanalei | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com
Hanalei Lip Treatment

This is another product that I really wanted to like.  I starts off great, kinda thick, smooth and slick without being sticky.  But the longer I wear it the less I like it. I just didn’t find my lips to be overly moisturized by this lip treatment. I have used other less expensive treatments that I liked better.

This Hanalei Lip Treatment is $20 for 0.53 oz.

Based on the sample NO, I would not buy Hanalei Lip Treatment.

juara swatch | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

Juara Turmeric Antioxidant Radiance Mask

This mask smells so bad!  It smells like the liquid that leaks out of a garbage truck. When I was growing up we always called it “trash juice.”  I am not even kidding, it stinks so bad!

Based on the sample NO, I would not buy Juara Turmeric Antioxidant Radiance Mask

palmers-cocoa-butter-lookingjoligood

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula

I never used this Palmer’s Cocoa Butter while I was pregnant which seems to be when most people seem to use it the most.  My kids love the way that this lotion smells.  It definitely has a chocolate scent to it.  I have been using it on my elbows knees and heels.  It works great!

An 8.5 oz bottle of this lotion cost around $5, a this 1.7 oz sample size is $0.99.

Based on the sample YES, I would buy this Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula.

peter-lamas-lookingjoligood

Peter Lamas Supreme Radiance Complexion Booster

This primer smells so funky!  I think that it works great, but it really stinks!  I am not kidding, this primer doesn’t smell good at all.  It has a nice little sparkle that adds a glow to the skin.  I have enjoyed using it.

A full size Complexion Booster is $44 for 1 oz.

Based on the sample YES, I would buy this Peter Lamas Supreme Radiance Complexion Booster.

pixi-by-petra-lookingjoligood

Pixi by Petra Blush Beauty Blush Duo Rose Gold

This is not a very good blush at all, it is a beautiful highlight though!  Even swirled together it doesn’t look like it is a blush.  I have been using it as a cheek highlight and in my inner corner and brow bone.

Based on the sample YES, I would buy this Pixi by Petra Blush, but definitely not as a blush.

smashbox-primer-oil-lookingjoligood

Smashbox Primer Oil

Here is my issue with this product, it works great as an oil to add to foundation, but the opening of the bottle is so large that it makes it hard to get just one or two drops out at a time.  I am pretty sure that the full size has got to have better packaging.  The full size of this oil is $42 for 1 oz.

Based on the sample YES, I would buy this Smashbox Primer Oil.

strivectin-ar | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

StriVectin-AR Eye Treatment

I love the scent of this under eye cream! I don’t really know if it made much of a difference because I don’t really have a huge under eye problem.  It seems really nice though. This eye cream is not cheap at $75 for 0.5 oz.  Only a little bit of eye cream is needed, so I have a feeling that 0.5 oz. will last a while.

Based on the sample NO, I would not buy StriVectin-AR Eye Treatment, not because it isn’t good, just because I don’t think I need to spend $75 for something that I don’t really know if it makes a big difference (even though I totally believe in prevention).

tarteist mascara | lookingjoligood.wordpress.comc

Tarteist Mascara

I can’t decide if I love or hate this mascara…when I first put it on my lashes look amazing!  Then as the day goes on it just kinda disappears.  I don’t know where it goes?  It doesn’t flake or smudge, it just vanishes.  At work I looked into the mirror and it looked as if I forgot to apply mascara to my lashes.  I was not happy about that!  Has anyone else used this mascara and had that happen?

Also, the packaging looks super cute, but as I have been using this over the last few weeks it has been annoying me the way that the top fits into the tub.  As you might be able to tell from the above picture it kind of clicks into the tube.  It makes it hard to be able to get the excess mascara off the brush because of the way the packaging is.  I am not sure if it is the same for the full sized mascara.

This sample size (0.1 oz) is $6 and the full size is $23 for 0.24 oz.

Based on the sample NO, I would not buy this Tarteist Mascara.  It is great for the first few hours, but then not

Makeup of the Day | lookingjoligood.wordpress.com

In the above picture I have on several of the products that I sampled this time around:

Bella Pierre Mineral Blush in Desert Rose
Burt’s Bees Naturally Nourishing Milk and HoneyBody Lotion
Pixi by Petra Blush Beauty Blush Duo Rose Gold (as a highlight on cheeks, brow bone, and inner corner)
Smashbox Primer Oil
Tarteist Mascara
(You may remember this picture from my makeup of the day post.)

What about you?  Have you tried any of these products?  What did you think?

How ’bout Them Samples # 5

I am still not buying new beauty items and I am still trying to use up samples that I have already received yet often neglect.  Since I started doing this a few months ago I have really enjoyed using and trying out these new things.I have been doing really well with not making any unnecessary beauty purchases!  I don’t think that I have ever gone this long before without buying new makeup.

So far, so good.I have so many samples from ipsy bags, or Target boxes and others from Walmart beauty boxes.  I think a lot of times the excitement of getting the new things is greater than that of actually trying out and using the samples.

I will let you know in a few weeks what I think of each thing and if I would purchase these items based on my thoughts from these samples.

Here is the fifth group of what I have decided to try out…

Check back in a few weeks to see what I think about all of these samples and if I would  purchase the full sized based on the sample size.If you would like to see which samples I have already tried out in the past you can read more by clicking HERE.lookingjoligood.wordpress.com
